Happy New Year! My New Year’s resolution iz to finally make it to tha Boot! I have a trip planned in tha works! Now, I just need to get tha time off of work! Will it happen? Tha future will tell!! For now, here comes my 1^st review of 2017, which shoulda been my final one of 2016! After this review, I’m goin’ straight to my old Louisiana Reviewz Marathon CDs to review, that I’ve been tryna review since May 1, 2009! Lookin’ forward ta hearin’! >>> I’m feelin’ tha whistlin’ beat intro, here… I’ono if it’s ‘cause I’m comin’ off a high or somethin’, but I’m feelin’ how this sounds! “Smoke a blunt;” of course! Two today! Worked, two blunts, no nap!! Great way to start tha year off! Beat’s definitely pure for tha Boot and so iz tha hook! Good shit! Tha 1^st verse’s pretty nice wit this Rouge vs. real-life shit; definitely dope! Just when so many artists either quittin’ or makin’ mainstream-soundin’ bullshit, here comes some quality, Baton Rouge music, without all that cocky bullshit! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2^nd verse, here, spittin’ facts! My Rating: 4.5

“Fuck” right, even tho I’ono know about him… >>> Regardless, this sounds nice ta hear! Great job wit what he rappin’ off of, here; definitely nice! Feelin’ tha troublemaker-type vibe on tha hook, here; dope… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and B-Trell sound like tha life of tha “party,” here… Tha 2^nd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, too; good shit for tha streetz! My Rating: 4.3

Let’s see, here… >>> I’m feelin’ tha repetitive vibe about “the weekend” on tha hook, here; definitely nice ta hear! Tha chick in tha background definitely nice ta hear, as an addition! Feelin’ how T-Bo comin’ through on tha 1^st verse, here, spittin’ it for dem chicks/bitches… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2^nd verse from T-Bo, here; can’t complain… Witness, of course, bringin’ tha A+ heat on tha 3^rd verse, here; always a plus! My Rating: 4.4

06. Yak Nasty “That Nigga” “Slidin’ In The Bucket”

Let’s hear this dude for tha 1^st time… >>> Likin’ tha violin in tha beat/background, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s simple-type shit that sounds catchy for tha mainstream or somethin’… I don’t mind this much at all, but this’ll prolly be one of tha wackest-soundin’ tracks on here for normal people? I’ono… I’m enjoyin’ it, tho. Tha verses are catchy, even tho it sounds a lil’ quiet? My Rating: 4.0

Tha hook’s pretty tight, here! Definitely feelin’ tha perspective for tha “gang”—“Gangland,” that iz! Nice shit on tha 2^nd verse, too, keepin’ this shit goin’! I honestly feel like it’s like 10 years ago, when I first heard tha Jimmy The DJ & DeTrane mixtapes! Neva agin’! Tha 3^rd verse’s pretty nice, here; good shit! My Rating: 4.5

Beat sounds nice and ChaY sound good on tha 1^st verse, holdin’ shit down… Tha hook sounds nice with this aggression/anthemic sound; great with tha female! Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and this must be this Terrabull? First time I’m hearin’ and it sounds like one of those cool rappers from tha early 2000’s that you hear for tha 1^st time! Nice 1^st impression from me! “Fuck yeah! Fuck yeah!” And, you got tha 3^rd verse on lock, too, ChaYs! Nice beat ending, too! My Current Rating: 4.2

Let’s see “what [she] got,” this time… >>> I’ono, but I’m feelin’ how X-Fyle be producin’ for her! Anotha hit-soundin’ song fa my reviewz! Feelin’ this singin’ throughout tha verses and beat! My Rating: 4.1

Let’s hear it! >>> I’m feelin’ tha dark-soundin’ street beat, here; good shit! This sounds nice ta hear; not sure what else I can say? Consistent rappin’ ova this nice beat… Tha “chalk”-creatin’ hook sounds nice ta hear, too… My Rating: 4.2

½time: Some tracks on tha back cover don’t match tha order of some of tha tracks on tha files… But, I’m definitely feelin’ this compilation, so far! Definitely got shit on lock, once again, fa tha 2K16/2K17, Trane! A 4.3-rated CD, currently! Keep it up wit these quality-soundin’, A+-soundin’ BR artists!!

>>> Sounds good, once again! Diggin’ this beat and tha vibe he bringin’ to tha street track, here… Tha 1^st verse’s pretty nice ta hear, here; good shit! Tha hook’s pretty nice, too, comin’ through wit dem “hitz!” Tha 2^nd verse’s soundin’ nice, strictly holdin’ this shit down! “Tha police always follow me;” ouch! My Rating: 4.3

13. Kell “Letter To My Son”

Yeah!! Hearin’ tha hook and I like how it sounds like a gutta tale with tha beat and how Kell sounds… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and it sounds good; deliverin’ like a G! I like how he say, “That he miss you,” as well as tha lil’ background, “Trippy, mane;” nice! Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and it’s soundin’ betta fa me; likin’ this story! Usually, these kinda songs ain’t really fa me, but tha beat helps keep my interest up… Also, I’m interested in your story! My Current Rating: 4.5

14. T-Bo “White Boy Swag”

Haven’t I heard before? Looks really old or somethin’? I’ono, but that’s what I see when I see this kinda title… >>> Ya Boy Earl in tha intro; really? Ain’t this your mixtape, DeTrane? A nice beat ta rap off of, but a lil’ cocky/show-off-y… Still, I don’t mind it, tho… My Rating: 3.8

15. DeTrane feat. Jay Sloan “L.L.L.D.”

Le’see… >>> Likin’ tha beat start, here… And, here you are, rappin’ on tha 1^st verse; nice ta hear, outta nowhere! DeTrane music fittin’ in wit these times of my manager & that enemy I deal with at my job! They don’t respect me enough ‘cause I’m tha Nu$$ie / Kevin Gates / Boosie of my job!! An aight flow; decent rhymes, here, on tha 1^st verse… “Live, Lust, Love, Die”? Nice, catchy hook from tha Trane! Sloan on tha 2^nd verse, here, comin’ through, doin’ a nice job wit this collab… It reminds me of nice lil’ undaground rap I’d hear on tha college radio stations up here in Northeast PA throughout 2003, lol! Love those feelings! My Rating: 4.6 (highest-rated track, so far, even tho it was only “aight” on tha verses, at times!)

>>> Pretty serious sounds comin’ from tha beginning… Sounds like a catchy lil’ hook after tha nice lil’ beat intro… Props for Mr. Carolinah for holdin’ tha hook down! Tha 1^st verse’s soundin’ nice! Kinda reminds me of a newer version of Yung Sicka, here… Crazy 2^nd ½ of tha 1^st verse wit that beat!! Tha 2^nd verse sounds kinda decent, here; not bad… I’ono, but tha 1^st verse sounded way better? Tha 3^rd verse decent but that crazy beat toward tha end of tha verse iz where it’s at!! My Rating: 4.4

17. Kell “Lyrics Like Pills”

Thought tha beat was gon be faster, but it’s really slow… I expect him ta slaughter this one! Sounds like a regular-soundin’ rap song fa tha south, but it still cool… Nice rhymes, regardless… My Current Rating: 4.0

18. Jay Sloan feat. Dez Dynamic “My Way”
>>> I’m likin’ tha slow beat intro, here… It progresses into a faster-soundin’ track… Lol, more BPM than tha usual? Almost reminds me of a Mark Ronson-type song or somethin’? Guessed 120 BPM for tha BPM and it’s actually 120.70 (rounded up to 121)! Tha 1^st verse’s pretty nice ta hear ova this beat! Even tho this track kinda sounds like some shit you’d rock a suit and tie to, I really am feelin’ it in a special “way!” Nice job wit tha 2^nd verse, here, holdin’ shit down in a different way… And, a bridge? Singin’, kinda like it’s tha rap version of Calvin Harris’ “My Way”, lol. Speakin’ of Calvin, who knew, right before I first discovered DeTrane on tha night of February 24, 2008, I first heard Calvin Harris on Music Choice Electronica! Now, every1 knows him! If I woulda talked about him in a review in 2008, no1 woulda known who I was talkin’ ‘bout, lol! My Rating: 4.5

>>> Even tho I don’t fuck wit these kinda tracks since my times bein’ robbed, I do think this sounds catchy. Nice job wit tha catchiness, Zipp!! Tha 1^st verse sounds great fa a hustle; can’t deny it, luckily… Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty nice ta hear, too, strictly on tha grind… My Rating: 4.3

21. Keazy Lutchie “I’m Gon Survive”

Back cover says, ““I’m Goin’ Survive”;” “Goin’?” Either way, I wanna hear this newbie ta end thangz off! >>> “I’m” likin’ tha slow beat and tha “flashing lights” shit wit tha hook, here; good shit! Tha 1^st verse’s soundin’ nice, here; great job layin’ it down wit how it’s rough growin’ up, sometimes! Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty nice, too, deliverin’ this real-life shit like it’s nothin’! Great story… My Rating: 3.9

22. Alvin Ray “Giving Up”

>>> I ain’t expect much from this but it sounds nice wit how he singin’ tha hook ova this beat! Tha 1^st verse’s pretty nice wit this rappin’. When y’all talk about bein’ “daddy” and shit like that in y’all 20’s, I feel like y’all grow up real fast or somethin’. Still, much betta than what I expected with tha 1^st verse! Great job layin’ it down! Now, a lil’ sample after tha 1^st verse… Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty nice; love when he raps! Long track but this shit don’t stop! A 3^rd verse, here, spittin’ dat real, southern shit! My Rating: 4.4

Time ta end this quick, excellent mixtape! >>> Where will we be one year from now, when that “next mixtape drops?” Can’t wait ta see what tha rest of this year gon bring! A lil’ dry wit how you deliverin’ tha outro, here, wit tha voice… Uh, what about me? Where’s my shout out? Still waitin’ for that day where it’s an automatic thing and not just somethin’ that I have to be told about! I wanna be surprised! Haven’t reached that important point, yet! That’s why, I ain’t on Facebook and barely post, anymore! My Rating: N/A

Overall: I really liked this mixtape, even tho nothin’ really obsessively struck me. Still, almost every track had a special vibe to it! Great job wit tha selection and exclusives, DeTrane! Gotta keep tha undaground music world of Baton Rouge alive, while tha undaground’s slowly dyin’! Can’t let it die! We’re all not “old” for this!!

Got a lil’ classic here, produced by Clever, FYI. Kinda wanted to wait till I reviewed tha actual CDs these are from for tha official review, but since I’m never gettin’ to it, I might as well just give it a review now… I already know it from editing it, but here goes an official review! >>> Just hearin’ this pure, beginning beat reminds me of my radio show that I used to have a long time ago (almost four years ago it ended!)! I think it was in one of my intros or somethin’… Anyway, to go with this pure beat, we have Handy on tha 1^st verse, comin’ through wit a gutta, southern-styled delivery, as always. He bringin’ tha definiton of dealin’ with “altercations” on tha hook, here, nicely. As far as me, lately, I’ve been suckin’ ‘em up and then, shmokin’ a nice bowl of weed at tha end of tha day to prove that I won tha day! Still, I hate when people have to altercate wit me!! Great job with tha laidback hook, Handy! Almost 12 years that you been gone! May 19! And, here comes Box on tha 2^nd verse, a lil’ more upbeat in tha voice and just spittin’ dat good shit like it was ’04 (which, it was, lol)! Comin’ through on tha 3^rd verse fa tha “club,” here, Handy; good shit, of course! And, on a G-shit level, too! Speakin’ of “club,” too bad Handy didn’t live past 21! My Current Rating: 4.7

>>> Haven’t got ta peep this classic, yet, so here it goes… Mista Matt on tha 1^st verse, here, “back in ’87.” It’s funny that he mentioned “‘87” ‘cause one of my co-workers been workin’ at Dunkin’ since “‘87” and still holds it down, 29 years later!! That’s that shit right there!! Okay on tha verse, here, just rappin’, rappin’, rappin’… Ms. LaTangla’s nice on tha hook, here… Keepin’ tha Matt goin’ on tha 2^nd verse and it’s a faster flow; definitely sounds betta than tha 1^st! Keepin’ it goin’ with tha 3^rd verse… Even more Matt, both on a regular flow and a fast flow; two for one! Nice… My Rating: 3.8

Either way, hope there’s some sorta edibles in NY fa me this trip! Definitely could use ‘em after all tha bullshit I’ve went through at work over tha past two months!! Definitely likin’ tha content on this one; all about gettin’ high! Luv my low tolerance level and when it pops off 2morrow, around this time, it’s ON!!! Tha 2^nd verse’s soundin’ pretty nice, too, keepin’ it “high!” “Pack a bowl;” that’s PA! We “pack” geebs in NY!! That’s, like, a whole bowl hit in one!! Tha world ain’t neva been tha same since I was introduced to ‘em back on August 2, 2014!! After tha 3^rd hook, I’m diggin’ tha distorted “where tha weed at” in tha background! You mean “Came A Long Way”, not “Been Along Ways”, lol, and lol @ tha spelling of “along” as not two words? Still pretty nice and I remember when Boxx told me in ’09: “I chose to have Gates on just tha hook just like Game did with Wayne on “My Life” (2008).” That was his chemistry and it was an interesting thought! Still, as of October 30, 2012, T-Bo has me blocked. It’s like, constructive criticism!! OMG, I wasn’t even as direct as I am now! Like, think, money rhymes! I’d bash like there’s no tomorrow!! At least I was still dickridin’ in 2012!! >>> A female harmonizin’ in tha beginning… Kickin’ it off wit Witness on tha 1^st verse and I’m diggin’ this beat… Sounds nice fa a somewhat-laidback joint, here, with aggression! Nice real-life lyrics from Witness; diggin’ it! Hearin’ tha hook about tha “name on tha shirt” and it’s like, which Louisiana artist will be next? Hate to even think of tha next tribute video I gon do… And, speakin’ of “picture on tha shirt,” whataya know! Trippy time I started tha review? It’s now 5:10 PM, which that’s tha day my brother died in my studio room just last year of an overdose from Xanex & morphine! Damn, can’t escape tha trippiness! Anyway, as T-Bo was on tha hook, here he iz on tha 2^nd verse, comin’ through with a nice, consistently-delivered verse, despite blockin’ me! Uncredited female on tha ending, here, who sounds nice! LOL, a fade-out… My Rating: 4.2

Who’s Shi? >>> Likin’ all this new music outta nowhere; this ain’t bad fa a somewhat-soundin’, mainstream-soundin’ song about “tattoos” on tha hook… I mean, I’ll take this ova money lyrics any day!!! Hearin’ Yella on tha 1^st verse and he sounds like somebody in tha mainstream on tha flow with all those jumpin’-back-n-forth-soundin’ rhymes! Nice ta hear this with this graffiti-like content, which, speakin’ of, I’m definitely diggin’ tha back cover! It reminds me of tha abandoned buildings I go in! Best thing eva! Urbexin’!! Here’s tha 2^nd verse with Yella havin’ “whipped cream on [his] dick,” as “bitches lick it off;” wow, lol… Definitely betta than that 1^st verse and he really inside this track, right now, lol! Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and it’s soundin’ nice ova this beat! “Pass out, fuck… speed up, fuck;” lol @ all tha different verbs ta “fuck” to, lol! Really mainstream-soundin’ fa this CD/a Louisiana tape, but it works fa me, right now… Here comes Mr. $hort on tha 2^nd verse and, I’ono how this collab really came about, but it sounds good on here; I’ll leave it at that! Hearin’ Max ova this Mod beat on tha 1^st verse and it’s definitely soundin’ like some top-notch shit! Good shit! Again, anotha hot song that’s not about money!!! I believe I reviewed it a long time ago but if I had to make it short and sweet fa a re-review, I’d say that this sounds nice and dark/paranoid! Now, imagine this while high! New attribute I can apply ta these old Louisiana song, while listenin’ to ‘em! Catchy, great, consistent rhymes, as always! Gotta luv it! My Current Rating: 4.6

Overall: Excellent compilation!! Got a lil’ on tha decent side toward tha near-end but for tha most part, a lotta impressive music on here!! Glad to support you over tha past eight years, Trane! Tryna make some time for some reviewz, here, before tha month ends… I’m really not tryna review anything 2015 ‘cause I need to catch up on a lotta things, so a few CDs I was issued in late 2014, I gotta get outta tha way… This one I finna review right now: Baton Rouge Music Company Presents Respect The Music Vol. 1 (Hosted by DJ Knuckles). As much as I’m excited and think it’s like a throwback to them old Baton Rouge compilation times of ’08, at tha same time, I’m a lil’ weirded out. For some reason, last year, right when I finally became a full-time worker, everyone really turned their back on me: Niggaz unfollowin’ me, niggaz blockin’ me, niggaz not sendin’ me CDs when it comes out (I know I’m real tied up, but if you said you “fuck wit me,” why I ain’t get nothin’? Tha attempt counts!). And also, Louisiana music suffered a fatal blow on February 5, 2014 when Baton Rouge producer/rapper, B-Real, blocked me from social media sites. Once that happened, not one song from Louisiana’s underground got added to my playlist, and I kept tryna force myself to fade away. It sux for y’all ‘cause there’s some pretty hot girls I work with and I can’t mention anything good from Louisiana to them ‘cause I’ve been forever-infected by B-Real’s blocking… So, if I get bitchy, I really don’t care; I’m a Shift Leader & Music Leader and speak my mind much better than before! So, without further or do, here I go… And please note, I have, like, no time for reviewz, so feel appreciated that I’m takin’ almost 80 minutes outta my time to sit down and review, right now!! Startin’ off tha compilation with a normal Baton Rouge rapper that’s never had a problem with me! I have no idea what to expect, but he did a drop, according to tha filename… >>> Nice lil’ drop from Boxx on tha intro… Oh, filename must be cut-off, so I can only go with “Music Symbols” for tha title (EDIT: Google-searched it; full title: “Music Symbols & Dollar Signs”… As far as tha beat, it’s pretty good; I has a partial Baton Rouge sound to it while tha other partial sound’s on a mainstream, southern level… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice to hear; great energy, as always! Even more energy on tha 1^st verse; consistent rhymes at its finest! Glad he neva lost it! Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty nice, too; gotta dig tha “ense” / “ence”-rhymin’ words! So catchy with that hook, here; gotta dig it! Though a “money” hook, I can’t bitch about this, luckily; it’s not like it’s tha cocky type that I can’t stand (“I’m gettin’ money, fuck what you think”-type shit, where they can’t even share or spend money, especially on me)! Could be that new white dude to keep an eye on… Nice 1^st verse with tha “100” perspectives and that hook, once again’s pretty nice! Tha 2^nd verse sounds good, too… See, no braggin’ shit, here. Anyone that raps all braggin’ and raps about nothin’ but “money” and “you a pussy-ass nigga”’s usually insecure and has problems of themselves; I know tha game better now! My Rating: 3.9

Glad I haven’t bitched once and I’m 1/5 through this disc! Definitely a nice hook with this beat; gotta jam to it! Tha 1^st verse sounds pretty good; diggin’ tha energy, once again! Again, it sounds like anotha upcoming white boy, or somethin’; I’m quite impressed, outta nowhere, after preparing myself for a mess! Tha 2^nd verse sounds pretty good; likin’ how tha beat changed up a lil’ bit!! Even tha 3^rd verse has a beat change in tha beginning of it, too; nice! Haven’t missed one month, yet! >>> Regardless of anything, whether these words just stay in this review only, this sounds pretty nice. I’m really likin’ tha underground, southern beat and tha hook has a catch to it of what “could… be!” Tha 1^st verse sounds pretty nice; tha 2^nd verse sounds pretty good, too… I like how this has an old-soundin’ vibe to it, once again… Tha 3^rd verse’s pretty nice, too; “Mista Matt,” huh? Now, in 2015, with my now-working, self-centered ass, I prolly wouldn’t mind any kinda feedback I give. However, after randomly bein’ called “gay” a few years ago in a freestyle (all ‘cause I got deleted for puttin’ them on tha radio? Really…?), I don’t think I should let any doors open, again. I mean, maybe, in tha future, just to see where I’m at now and that I get high, but for now, no… Also, recently, I had a friend whose mom’s a lesbian, so any kinda homophobia references I don’t take lightly… And, over tha past four years, I’ve never come clean about skipping and not typing anything with this artist. However, it’s basically ‘cause it would’ve been search-friendly online, typing his name… With that bein’ said, it’s easier to ignore than to show luv to… I know I’m a Shift Leader and all that, but really, there’s no need for tha name-bashing!

This should be somethin’ good to hear!! >>> Sounds good with tha beat and Witness, though tha hook gives me weird feelings with Witness singin’ this one… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and tha lyrics are real nice for Witness; gotta feel ‘em. Tha 2^nd verse from One-i’s good, too. Other than tha hook kinda givin’ me weird feelings with tha “die” and tha singin’, it a good track, overall. Also gotta add that I always wonder “if I die.” Like, at my job, they value me! Could you imagine them closin’ tha store if I died? But, with Louisiana, I’ll be remembered as a legend, though alive at tha moment, I don’t feel tha value… My Rating: 4.0

Nice beat and this dude sounds nice on tha hook; feelin’ tha vibe… I almost thought he was an auto-tune addict or somethin’ a few years ago… Anyway, tha 1^st verse’s great; diggin’ his energy and consistent rhymin’ ova this beat… Props fa reppin’ “for” dat good shit on tha hook, especially “Baton Rouge, Louisiana!” Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty-good, too; keep it goin’! Oh, I had to google it and Trally Boy changed his name to “T Carr,” here; interesting… I do like tha “Trally Boy” name better, though… Anyway, great job with tha both of y’all on tha 1^st verse; dumb shit! And yeah, “I go hard on every verse;” definitely co-signed by ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog!! Nice job with tha promotion, BRMC a.k.a. Baton Rouge Music Company a.k.a. DeTrane!! Hearin’ y’all both on tha 2^nd verse and this iz pretty nice; I’m definitely feelin’ this! Could this be my top-rated track on this mixtape? We shall see! Definitely a close one; luv how they saved tha best for tha end! Also, when they say, “I go hard on every verse,” on tha hook, it almost sounds like a Master P voice, a lil’, lol… I wish I could get that B-Real venom outta me and get back to addin’ good shit like this to my playlist! Thought this was gon sound like some New Orleans gangsta shit with a bounce vibe, but it’s like that Baton Rouge gangsta sound, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice; definitely diggin’ tha aggression in tha voice! Tha 1^st verse’s nice, too; nice and undaground at its finest! Tha 2^nd verse’s pretty nice with this “baseball game”-themed beginning of tha verse; good shit! Didn’t expect this to be over five minutes long but it’s still good to hear… Tha 3^rd verse ain’t too bad, but prolly could’ve been better if there were only two verses here ‘cause it’s kinda long… My Rating: 4.2

Overall: So, 80 minutes turned into 110 minutes, due to I attempted to have anticipation for this mixtape and not rush it. And, it was a success! Definitely a real-nice job, here, DeTrane; didn’t expect all tha unknown artists, especially during a time like this! A lotta great production and that great aggression, energy, and jigg-related shit that I always look for! I know our consistency with our mixtapes aren’t there anymore (as I had my final issue, Tha Louisiana Archives Vol. 17, last March, dayz before I started my job), but we can still put out a product that gets appreciated—well, you get appreciated and I don’t. As I’m still that big ‘myth’ in everyone in Louisiana’s minds, my fairytale time may be up soon… Who knows, I could be closer to gettin’ to Louisiana… It may happen one year, comin’ up; be prepared! We’re gettin’ closer!
