Review #1,857: I.B.G. "We Ballin'"

Reviewed on 11.27.2019 (Review #1,857)

Hoppin’ back ta my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon with this next one: Franklin’s own, I.B.G. We Ballin’, released in 1999 on Red Boy Records & produced by Choklate Chip! FYI: I.B.G. consists of Eddie Bo, Rocky & B-Dub. Their name’s also an acronym for Innocent But Guilty. Start Time: 2:22 PM | End Time: 3:29 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Intro (DJ Dolby D)
>>> Likin’ Dolby’s quiet energy, in tha beginning, as well as tha mixin’; dope shit, includin’ tha beat…! My Rating: N/A

02. “Come & Get It” feat. Red Boy
>>> Reminds me of me playin’ it on my radio show or somethin’… Definitely a nice beat, as well as tha energy bein’ brought to tha 1st verse; definitely nice! Hearin’ tha hook and yeah, can’t deny it! “Come & Get It” iz right! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty nice; good shit! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s pretty nice, as well; luv tha continuous energy…! Got tha 4th verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty nice; unstoppable! My Rating: 4.5

03. “We Ballin’” feat. Red Boy & Papa Reu
>>> “Jammin’” with Bob Marley, in tha beginning? Oh, tha jam turned into a ball, on tha hook; sounds nice! Definitely feelin’ this blend/remake, on tha hook! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty consistent; y’all know how ta hold it down…! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty consistent, as well…! “Sober or high…;” can’t even enjoy tha music as much while “sober,” these dayz! Well, maybe before 25, before I got “high,” for tha 1st time. Now, live life to tha fullest, especially when you have a dead brother (R.I.P. my brother)! A lil’ bit of a Jamaican-soundin’ 3rd verse, here, with a singin’ flow; sounds catchy… “Shmokin’ marijuana;” definitely nice! Havin’ tha medical card, I should be able to shmoke legal “marijuana!” All day, every day! Got tha 4th verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice ta quickly progress this track; good shit… My Rating: 4.3

04. “The Way A Nigga Live”
>>> A decent, laidback-soundin’ beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ good; can’t complain wit this… A lil’ bit of a G-Funk sound in tha beat, too, as tha verse progresses; definitely nice…! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ nice fa these ‘90s… A faster-flowed 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty dope; definitely nice ta transition tha verses…! My Rating: 4.2

05. “Choking On”
>>> Anotha nice anthem fa tha shmokers, out there! Sounds dope with tha hook, here, as well as tha funky G-Funk beat! Got tha 1st verse goin’ on, here, strictly luvin’ tha “herb” to tha fullest! Nice…! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, as well, holdin’ shit down, as always; good shit! Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, this time, soundin’ consistent wit tha rhymes; dope… My Rating: 4.1

06. “I Got Game” feat. Red Boy & Papa Reu
>>> A nice, laidback, though upbeat vibe fa tha ‘90s, here, on tha beat… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds good; you know what it iz…! Got a female singin’ on tha hook, here, soundin’ pretty nice, as well as tha title part from tha dudes… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds just as good as tha 1st verse; dope… Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty nice, as well; what else ta say…? Here comes tha 4th verse, soundin’ pretty nice; rhymes drillin’ atcha! My Rating: 4.0

07. “No Love For A Bitch” feat. 4-5 Click
>>> A lil’ more anthemic on tha beat, here; nice… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, holdin’ it down… Sounds like this just keeps goin’, without a transition to tha hook? Don’t think I like this that much; just sounds like one big verse… Nice rappin’ but too long, especially 4:40, without a hook…! My Rating: 3.4

½time: Mainly, this iz a nice CD with some great vibes. Tha track I just heard may’ve not’ve rated as high as tha others, due to tha no hook. However, it’s a 4.1-rated CD, so far, so we’re still up for greatness…

08. “Make It Happen”
>>> Beat’s pretty nice, wit this G-Funk feel… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds good; I feel what y’all spittin’… Got a hook (yay!), this time, soundin’ pretty nice; good shit! A shout out ta “Red Boy,” here, especially since he been featured on y’all tracks & in charge of this release, courtesy of “Red Boy” Records…! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty nice; consistent, dope rhymes fa tha hood…! Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice; good shit… A lil’ shout out ta tha hoods toward tha end, as well; good shit… My Rating: 4.2

09. “Playa In Me”
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ beat, here; a lil’ hypnotized? Hearin’ a chick on tha hook, here, samplin’ tha “ain’t no woman like tha one I got” lyric into, “Ain’t no playa like tha one I got.” Let’s see how tha verses hold it down… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds good, as we’re relaxin’ ta this laidback vibe… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, soundin’ good; not too much ta say… Tha 3rd verse iz here and it sounds nice ta hear, here; keepin’ up… My Rating: 4.0

10. “I Like It”
>>> Sounds good with tha beat & 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s anotha chick hook; pretty nice… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice; good shit. Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse and funny how y’all say, “20/20” ‘cause in 35 mo dayz, it’ll be 2020! With that bein’ said, nice verse… My Rating: 4.0

11. “Innocent But Guilty”
Here’s y’all name… >>> A regular-soundin’ beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and tha fast-soundin’ rappin’ caught my attention! Definitely nice, here…! Now, y’all got a dude singin’ on tha hook, here… Sounds like a regular-soundin’ R&B singer of tha ‘90s but I like how they only said tha title once, split up… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty dope, just like tha 1st verse… Even mo shit comin’ from tha 3rd verse, here…; good shit…! My Rating: 4.3

12. “Place To Be”
>>> A nice, regular-soundin’ southern beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, as y’all keep tha rhymes comin’… Got tha hook goin’ on, here, soundin’ a lil’ catchy & good, of course… Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, as it’s just a regular-soundin’ verse… Y’all tha “three-man barricade!” Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, right nah, soundin’ good; nice job… My Rating: 3.9

13. “Live With It”
>>> Anotha regular-soundin’ beat, with a faster vibe… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds good; good lil’ mission-minded mind, here… Tha hook sounds okay, here; felt like I heard it before? Tha “money-makin’” part sounds familiar… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, soundin’ nice; can’t complain… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, soundin’ good fa tha streetz; nice job… My Rating: 3.8

14. “Bloc Blam”
>>> Sounds good with tha beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice; consistent rhymes… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s good; always good ta have human-made sound effects…! Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice, once again… Also, we got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty dope… My Rating: 4.1

15. “Smoke Mo Weed”
>>> Nice, G-Funk-soundin’ beat, here…! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty dope; likin’ how it’s long! Tha “weed” makes it go by s…l…o…w…! Dope shit! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice; keep it goin’…! Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ good; feelin’ what’s bein’ spit out tha mouth, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too; good shit… My Rating: 4.3

Overall: Most of this seemed like it was of good material… Production was on point, as well as tha rhymes/songs; definitely ‘90s gold…!
