Review #1,752: The Muse Gru "Never Come Close"

Reviewed on 8.10.2017 (Review #1,752)

My next review, str8 outta Lake Charles, iz The Muse Gru Never Come Close, released in 1998 on Blackeye Entertainment; let’s get it… Start Time: 1:41 AM | End Time: 2:16 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “You Betta Tell ‘Em”
>>> Likin’ this lil’ dark-soundin’ beat and how y’all comin’ through on tha 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice wit tha female voice added to it… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, too; good shit… With tha 3rd verse, it’s pretty consistent; definitely diggin’ it! My Rating: 4.0

02. “Something In The Watter” feat. DJ Phill, Shaggy & Speed
>>> Plain-soundin’ beat, here; not too bad for a start wit tha 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice with how it sounds… Why tha extra “T” with tha “watter,” here? Hearin’ tha hook and it’s ehh…; kinda boring wit this plain sound? Rhymes can be continuin’ ta be consistent on tha 2nd verse, but I want a nice beat, not a plain one… And, tha 3rd verse continues ta bring it, but this kinda long fa tha rest of it… My Rating: 3.4

03. “Life Is A Blunt” feat. Turquoise Williams
>>> A lil’ betta wit this beat but still a lil’ dry… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t too bad, here… Really feelin’ tha female voice on tha hook, especially that it’s about a “blunt!” Quick and nice; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s not bad, neither; just decent verses, here… And, toppin’ it off wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like anotha decent one… My Rating: 4.0

04. “Time & Time”
>>> A lil’ betta than a dry beat, here, but it’s still a lil’ dry fa tha track, overall… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s ehh… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s good, in a way that it could be “tha last time,” but that’s about it… Also, likin’ tha mysterious female voice, like tha “Blunt” track… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent… Likin’ all tha “shmokin’” moments, here; good shit… Nice ending part wit tha last minute, havin’ tha female vocalize and all dat… My Rating: 3.8

05. “Mary Jane”
>>> Thought it would be a nice weed song but I find it kinda slow and a lil’ dry… Yeah, I know that’s what bud should be like/do to ya, but it’s ehh… Tha mysterious female on tha 1st verse and hook sounds good, in some wayz…; I dig her singin’… I’ono if I can handle 4:49 of it, tho; kinda long? Tha rest kinda long but still a lil’ decent… My Rating: 3.1

06. “Devil In The Barber Shop” feat. Candy Cain
>>> Hearin’ various amouts of y’all rap on tha 1st verse, here, and it’s decent… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice wit tha aggressive voice, here; good shit… For tha most part, not too much sparkin’ my interest but I’ll keep tunin’ in… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like a decent verse… I’ono, sometimes, I feel like I get lost wit who’s rappin’, at times… It seems like y’all shuffle way too much? My Rating: 3.0

07. “Even Though You Left Me”
>>> Damn, 5:54?? Startin’ off wit tha hook and it sounds like a nice lil’ slow jam; we’ll see how long my interest stays… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds a lil’ betta than typical verses on here; real-life shit, here… Tha rest of this kinda boring but it iz what it iz, I guess? My Rating: 2.6

08. “Love Ain’t No Friend” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Decent singin’ on tha hook but tha beat kinda plain, tho… Tha verses are random-soundin’ ta me, here… My Rating: 3.2

½time: A 3.4-rated CD, so far… I’ono, too many dry, quiet-soundin’ tracks, here, as well as not-that-catchy verses… Sometimes, this seems more like an R&B CD than a rap one, ta me…

09. “Money Makes The World Go Round” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Catchy rappin’ and a betta-soundin’ beat, here; not too bad… Tha chick ain’t too bad wit her rappin’, as well… My Rating: 3.3

10. “Fast Life (Alize & Hennessy)” (Alize & Hennessy)
>>> This one sound like a nice lil’ party; good hook, beat and tha rappin’ ain’t bad, here… My Rating: 3.5

11. “Ninja In The Night”
>>> Decent-soundin’ track, here… Hearin’ tha verses and they ain’t bad; y’all focused on tha future, here, which I feel… Tha final verse has a lil’ more effort wit tha rappin’/pace than most of tha tracks on here… My Rating: 3.6

12. “Bring It On”
>>> Quiet-soundin’ vocals, here; oh boy… Beat ain’t too bad and it sounds nice wit tha rappin’, but tha vocals too quiet… My Rating: 2.7

13. “In Yo Space” feat. Candy Rain
>>> I’ono, kinda sounds East Coast-y to me wit tha production…; lack of interest fa me, here… My Rating: 2.2

14. “How You Want It” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Really likin’ tha alarm clock-soundin’ bass start, here! Fuckin’ catchy-ass bassline!! Tha rappin’ pretty nice, too; this gotta be tha highlight track on here! Nice job wit tha aggression and what y’all bringin’ to tha table, here! My Rating: 4.3

15. “Never Come Close” feat. Speed
>>> This one kinda quiet/dry, as well as bein’ ehh… Some of tha verses have a good effort wit tha rappin’ but it’s still a lil’ quiet on tha vocals, at times… My Rating: 2.9

16. “Can’t Believe You’re Gone” feat. Marcus
>>> Anotha long track? No wonder why some of these reviewz take fa’eva ta review…! Just a typical-soundin’ song about someone dyin’… Only thang betta wit this one iz that it’s a lil’ more upbeat than tha typical, depressin’-soundin’ tribute song… My Rating: 2.5

Overall: A good portion of these tracks were kinda long, despite tha not-so-catchy tracks, overall… I’ono, I thought this woulda been betta but it iz what it iz…

Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ pretty nice, as well…! We keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty jammin’ fa tha ‘90s south, here! My Rating: 4.7

06. “Good Times” feat. Pimp C
I will give this a good review/rating, but I cannot tolerate this song, anymore, as of October 15, 2011!! I’m a lil’ better about it, now ‘cause of how stressful my job/life has been, lately, but listen: On October 15, 2011, I was with an artist from Baton Rouge, LA, that flew up to see me in PA. I played this on my radio show and that ‘artist’ (person, whateva you wanna call ‘em) threw $2,000 at me while I was filmin’ footage for my radio show’s episode. Right after that, dude robbed me outta $555 and it’s like, who in tha fuck wanna hear this?!? >>> Dope beat from Pimp; dope verses; vibin’, great-southern hook… My Rating: 4.3

07. “To Da Ballers” feat. E.B.W.D. & Mike G
Mannie Fresh doin’ tha beat! >>> Sounds like a catchy lil’ tune wit tha hook, here; decent beat for Mannie, tho… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ pretty nice, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, keepin’ it movin’, slowly… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ pretty nice ta make this continue… And, a 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse, here, a lil’ more southern… Hmm…, I’m likin’ tha hook a lil’ betta, now, wit how tha beat sounds, in tha background… It’s like, hey, if “Good Times” can be a 4.3, why can’t this be, right?! My Rating: 4.3

½time: A consistent, dope lil’ southern CD fa tha south, here, as it’s a 4.3-rated CD!! Definitely gotta keep it movin’!!

08. “Changing Faces”
Joseph “Governor” Flowers on tha beat! >>> Sounds like an interestin’ beat, here; definitely feelin’ tha vibe! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice; great job!! Hearin’ tha hook and it gives me a weird, but excellent vibe that tha times are “changing!” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds like a nice lil’ “Par-Le” party, here…! And, here’s tha 3rd verse, here, keepin’ it movin’ in a nice way! My Rating: 4.4

09. “I-10”
Mannie Fresh track! >>> No intro needed! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here! Definitely feelin’ tha Mob’s perspective of tha south, here! Mannie did a nice job wit this beat, this time! Tha previous Mannie beat was decent, but this pure!! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s a pretty dope hook about “cocaine;” definitely dope, lol! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, here, and it’s pretty nice, as well… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s pretty nice, as this continues ta keep tha consistency up! My Rating: 4.4

10. “Us” feat. Kennon McKinney & L-Dog
D-Wiz beat… >>> Decent lil’ beat, here; feelin’ it… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ pretty nice… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice and simple… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice… And, a 3rd verse, keepin’ tha street content comin’ along, here… My Rating: 4.1

11. “Is U A G”
D-Wiz & T-Rex beat… >>> Anotha one wit no intro needed; definitely dope! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s a boss’ life, here! Feelin’ tha anthemic hook! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice wit this beat! Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice, as well… Tha 3rd verse iz soundin’ nice, here, as tha “Girbauds” are holdin’ it down, here! My Rating: 4.2

12. “Stunt’n Like A Goodgirl” feat. Nelson
Mannie Fresh doin’ this beat, as well! >>> Interestin’ thumpin’ in tha beginning, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds catchy wit this male voice, on tha hook… Decent beat from Fresh, here; let’s see how tha verses go… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and y’all layin’ it down, here, as far as how these girlz go slutty!! Definitely some good quality hood/good times-type o’ rhymes comin’ through in tha 1st verse right chea! Tha start to tha 2nd verse sounds anticipatin’ fa tha ladies wit, “Can I get it wet?” and they sayin’, “Yeah!” Tha dude on tha 3rd verse “smellin’” good fa dis shit right chea as he “smellin’ like dat Mary Jane” and spittin’ good hood lyrics! Ooh, tha 3rd verse split in ½ here wit some good shit bein’ spit in tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse! My Rating: 4.2

This a long joint right chea; how will y’all do wit it? >>> A long phone call in tha beginning (only 36 seconds). Interestin’ hook dat sounds like it’s whinin’, in a funny way, “I don’t give a fuuuck!” Tha 1st verse sounds pretty smooth right chea… Nice and long ta where y’all explained a lot, ya dig. Tha 2nd verse sounds motivated; “I’ve been writin’ rhymes.” I don’t have much ta say about it but good job… Tha 3rd verse has some shit goin’ on… I can’t really comment on it ‘cause I don’t know what ta say… kinda ta where this song’s gettin’ a lil’ too long… My Rating: 3.6

There’s a LOT of it now! Let’s see what y’all gotta say about it, ’95 style!! >>> Soundin’ pretty good in tha beat and tha 1st verse has y’all “ready ta go ta war;” prepared-ass shit! 11. “Ghetto Mail (Radio)”
Thanx for tha radio edit! See #4 fa tha review!

12. “Playa Hater (Outro)”
Oh, an outro/song? Let’s see how it sounds! >>> Sounds like a lil’ smooth beat ta go wit tha endin’… I’m actually feelin’ tha lil’ sample ta go wit dis kinda joint. I’m guess y’all just gon talk about these “playa haters” ova dis beat like an outro. Sounds like y’all gonna rap or somethin’ on this… Okay, here it iz, finally, a lil’ afta 2:30. Sounds good fa what it was; it was short so I gon rate it a lil’ somethin’. My Rating: 3.7

Overall: Nice job wit dis CD right chea! Tha hood lyrics DEFINITELY pay off when I hear ‘em and you KNOW I luv ‘em!! Keep up tha gr8 work, guys!

01. "I-10"
Ooh, an "I-10" anthem; lemme see what we got here!! >>> Sounds like a long beat intro... Nice siren in tha beginning though. Tha beginning sounds pretty good, and your rappin' iz pretty good. Tha 1st verse did its thang; really feelin' what you got on this shit, especially tha "cocaine" part in tha hook! Tha 2nd verse iz soundin' good too; nice shit right here! Really feelin' what's bein' spit right chea. Tha 3rd verse here sounds like it "a fucked up journey;" as long as you "keep yo hustle on," you'll be aight. Yea, "Baton Rouge, my destination;" nice part! I'm DYIN' ta go ta Baton Rouge one of these dayz!! Yea, tha "still got dope" part keeps you motivated (on tha [I think] 3rd verse)! Yea, fuckin' luvin' these drug lines!! "Trunk fulla bricks!" My Rating: 4.4

02. "Roll So Deep"
Should be anotha great song from you, ya dig! >>> Interesting lyrics here; good job on tha 1st verse. I like tha 2nd verse here wit "one day, you're rollin' hard. Tha next day, ...quicksand." Tha 3rd verse iz nice too, especially since you be "slangin' cocaine," and all tha rhymes about what be goin' on in yo hood. My Rating: 4.2

03. "Cominatcha"
Looks catchy (as in one word); lookin' forward!! >>> Great attitude on this shit; great voice too!! Yea, "fulla dat dank;" nuthin' but STREET SHIT right chea!! I like tha "nigga burn blunts like we chillin' in Jamaica" part! Glad ya "cominatme" like this (wit a song like this)! Much betta attitude on tha 2nd verse!! Real tight rappin' here, especially wit tha attitude continuing!! Sounded REAL GREAT around tha 2:30 mark!! I like how you said "Louisiana," soundin' like "Lou-ze-ana;" I say it as "Lou-ee-z-ana." Glad this verse iz so fuckin' long!! My Rating: 4.5

½time: This looks like it a REAL GOOD CD so far!!! Keep doin' ya thang, X-Mob!! Tight shit right here!!

04. "Life Of A Gangsta"
This iz what I wanna hear!! Lemme hear it right now!! >>> Sad ta hear you "only 19, and you locked in this joint." Nice, gangsta survivin' lyrics goin' on in tha 1st verse here. Tha hook iz real; great shit, livin' tha "life of a gangsta." Tha 2nd verse iz real; nuthin' but real shit comin' from this shit right here!! I like tha "slangin' dope all night in tha park 'til tha sun come up" part; just real shit goin' on here!! Tha 3rd verse iz here, and yea, "street life iz tha only life you know;" who wouldn't like some shit like this?!? Great lyrical song! My Rating: 4.3

05. "Jealous Ass Niggas"
Anotha tight title = anotha tight song!! >>> Nice start wit this shit here, and at :50, it was that "dunn-dunn-dunn-dunn" Bounce sound!! Nice "makin' money" lyrics goin' on here afta that too. Tha hook was cool, but tha 2nd verse here iz soundin' like where tha 1st verse left off! Nice job right there! Too bad it only 2 verses... My Rating: 4.2

06. "Living The Life"
Anotha title ta go wit this CD! >>> Yea, fa "all my peoples in Louisiana!" That's tha RIGHT way ta start a song off!! Yea, "livin' tha life of a nigga from tha boot;" TIGHT SHIT!! REAL GREAT street lyrics here. Glad you "countin' up loot" in tha hook too; great shit here!! Tha 2nd verse iz here, and it's soundin' REAL CATCHY wit tha dude from X-Mob on there!! Really felt that 2nd verse! Yea, a 3rd verse here!! I like tha "I'm not Fat Joe" part. Ooh, a 4th verse here too! Good job there, as this shit iz tha shit! My Rating: 4.5

07. Hollarinatcha
Looks like #3... I hope we have a good ending song 'cause if it 4.0 or higher, then this an automatic 5* CD!!! >>> Real slow beat here... Oh wait, iz this just shout outs? Then, it's already a 5* CD!!! Yea, you said, "buku!" Great shout outs, especially since y'all mention yo "niggaz in Baton Rouge!" Who's "James 'Buku' Williams?" That's cool that he got "buku" in his name! Real good shout outs, especially wit tha end, "can't fa'get tha whole fuckin' boot!" My Rating: N/A

Overall: Well, 2x in a row in my marathon I reviewed a 5* rated CD!!! This shit was tight! X-Mob, keep doin' tha damn thang!! Tha lyrics & rhymes surpassed tha beats, surprisingly.
