R.I.P. Video #86: Charlie Whop

Recorded March 11, 2023

Broadcasting from Freeville, NY, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog here, sadly reportin' anotha tragic loss in tha Louisiana rap community.

Charles Davalie, known by his stage name, Charlie Whop, was murdered on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at around 4:30 PM, in New Orleans, LA, off North Broad Street & Saint Bernard Avenue; he was only 49 years-old. Tha passing of Davalie was brought to tha media's attention for condolences, thanx to fellow N'awlinz rapper/good friend, Hot Boy Ronald. History-wise, courtesy of people like tha late Magnolia Shorty, tha song, "Charlie Whop!!", became an anthem to represent Davalie's talent in New Orleans, durin' tha '90s. Durin' tha year 2000, Davalie released his only album, History, courtesy of King's Entertainment. As tyme went on, Davalie kept his N'awlinz credit alive with tha reputation he had brought to tha streetz of tha 504. However, once March 8, 2023 came around, it was tha last tyme Davalie was alive, as he was fatally shot dead. If Davalie made it to see July 11th of this year, he woulda celebrated his 50th birthday.

Review #1,361: Mr. Marcelo "OG Luv Dat OG (Hosted by DJ SWU)"

Reviewed on 1.02.2014 (Review #1,361)

Up next, got a Jet Life review right chea fa my boy, Mr. Marcelo, who I recently got connected with! Here goes my review fa his OG Luv Dat OG (Hosted by DJ SWU) mixtape! Start Time: 9:32 PM | End Time: 10:08 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

© 2014 CD Review (Review #1,361) reviewed on 1.02.2014 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Intro”
Brotha Beatz on tha beat, here… >>> Sounds like a catchy beat and how you come through on tha intro to tha intro, wit sayin’ tha same thing twice! Feelin’ your rhymes, here… My Rating: 4.2

02. “Kool-G Rap”
Koe Adams doin’ tha production, here; let’s see what made you have this rapper as tha title of your song… >>> I wish I “could smell” dat “OG shit,” right now, Celo! Nice “no actor, but I’mma factor” line; good shit goin’ on in tha verse… My Rating: 4.3

03. “Barry White”
Trakaddic doin’ tha track, here… From a rapper title to a singer title; let’s see… >>> And, tha sample in tha beat kinda explains tha title, here… Gotta luv that you “be smellin’ like good weed;” wish I could “smell” it, right now, ya feel me? Good rhymes tha whole way ‘round on this! My Rating: 4.1

04. “Preach 2 ‘Em”
Roe Adams beat. >>> Feelin’ tha rhymes on this okay beat, here. Tha beat may be okay, but when you rap on it, it adjusts to tha track, overall, so I can’t complain! Catchy hook, too, about you preachin’ “2 ‘em.” LOL @ tha Trinidad James “don’t believe me, just watch” quote in tha 2nd verse! Good 3rd verse, too, about your “life” and shit. My Rating: 4.0

05. “Toast To Success” Feat. Young Roddy
Donkody on tha beat… >>> A decent start with a decent 1st verse from you… Tha hook ain’t too bad, but I like how it sounds like some supastar status with tha lyrical content. Young Roddy comin’ through on tha 2nd verse…; almost sounds a lil’ too young fa you ta collab with, but it ain’t terrible… My Rating: 3.9

06. “Scarface (Remix)” Feat. Juvenile, Ceto, 6 Shot & Wacko
Almost thought that was 6 Ward Pook on tha feature… Lookin’ forward ta hearin’ this one with Al Beats on tha beat! And, anotha artist on tha title. >>> Sounds like an okay joint with a hip-hop soul-like beat, here… You did a nice job wit your verse, but Juve sounds betta, here! He 2nd on this joint, and his rhymes are nice and consistent, non-stop! Got one of y’all next (sounds like Wacko, but he last in tha ID…); it sounds good, once again! 504 style to tha fullest! Tha 4th verse sounds laidback; good shit. My Rating: 4.2

½time: So far, so good; regular N.O. music, here, with a 4.1 CD rating, currently!

07. “Game”
Debo Beats beat. >>> It sounds like you’re focused, here; nice joint… There’s really nothin’ much ta say about this, except that you’re consistent wit droppin’ good music. My Rating: 4.0

08. “Say Dat” Feat. Curren$y
Got a family member on tha feature, here, with Anice on tha beat! >>> Sounds good; can’t complain… Tha rhymes are catchy fa this beat, in a mainstream perspective; tha hook’s aight, too… You keepin’ tha consistent vibes goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, too; nice… Spitta on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit an okay/catchy verse; glad he consistent, too! My Rating: 4.1

09. “D Boy”
John G Beats beat. >>> This ain’t too bad…; delivery-wise, it sounds more like a life story than a rap song fa me. My Rating: 3.6

10. “Better Days” Feat. Casso
Brotha Beats beat. >>> Flow’s kinda gettin’ boring, at times, but I don’t mind hearin’ what you got ta say… Tha beat sounds betta and how tha track sounds with Casso on tha 2nd verse, here… My Rating: 3.5

11. “One Night”
Yoady-Yo Lionheart on tha track; looks like a royal name for a producer, like, Final Fantasy style! >>> I’m likin’ tha vibrating in tha beginning… Again, it’s not tha most-exciting sound, so far, but I’m feelin’ how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse. “Freestyle on that couch;” nice. Tha hook’s okay, here; nothin’ too much ta say about it… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it aight… My Rating: 3.7

12. “God Know” Feat. Willie B
Endin’ with a Trakaddic beat. >>> Sounds a lil’ betta, here; not bad wit tha 1st verse… Here you are on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit real rhymes, once again. Feelin’ your pain ova this beat… My Rating: 3.8

Overall: Tha 2nd ½ of this CD was more on tha decent/okay side fa me. But, this CD still managed ta get four stars from me. Keep up tha great work; hope we do some shit in tha future!

R.I.P. Video #27: Soulja Slim

View on phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwhWQWcSlzc

Recorded November 26, 2013.

Broadcasting from my backyard in Peckville, Pennsylvania, it's FrankieThaLuckyDog, with a special version of my tribute videoz. Today marks a decade since New Orleans rapper Soulja Slim, born James Adarryl Tapp, Jr., was brutally murdered in front of his mom's house on 4600 Lafaye St., on November 26, 2003; he was only 26 years-old. Slim suffered three gunshot wounds to tha face, and one to tha chest, from an unknown gunman. Twenty-two-year-old Garelle Smith was arrested in connection with tha murder, as police found a stolen police pistol in Smith's possession, on New Year's Eve, 2003. However, in 2008, tha case was dropped due to a lack of witnesses and tha New Orleans 60-day law. Smith had a similar situation happen in August 2011, when he was found dead also with gunshot wounds to his face and chest.

Born and raised in Magnolia's projects, Slim was a sophomore dropout at Booker T. Washington High School. He released his debut album, Soulja Fa Lyfe, in 1994, under Parkway Pumpin' Records as Magnolia Slim. A year later, he represented his skillz on tha No Limit Records compilation, Down South Hustlers: Bouncin' And Swingin'. His major label debut, Give It 2 'Em Raw, was released in 1998 on No Limit Records. Slim continued to build his reputation by starting tha Cut Throat Committy Records label. Slim released his 7th and final CD, Years Later...A Few Months After, in 2003, while still alive. Following his death, his greatest success came when he was featured on fellow New Orleans'er, Juvenile's 2004 hit, "Slow Motion", which topped tha Billboard Hot 100. Slim was only tha 6th artist and 2nd rapper, behind The Notorious B.I.G., to top tha Billboard Hot 100 posthumously.

Review #1,334: Mr. Marcelo "Return Of The Big Homie"

Reviewed on 10.30.2013 (Review #1,334)

Next up, anotha N.O. supastar—well, more undagroundstar, IMO: Mr. Marcelo Return Of The Big Homie, with Jet Life Recordings! Start Time: 12:57 PM | End Time: 1:38 PM

© 2013 CD Review (Review #1,334) reviewed on 10.30.2013 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Intro”
>>> Beat sounds good, here, and you comin’ through wit some shit ta ride through—yea, through tha hood. My Rating: 4.1

02. “Scarface”
>>> This sounds good. Because of tha title, I thought it was gon sound more darker on tha beat, but I’m feelin’ how you comin’ through wit tha rhymes fa tha hood… “Always,” Marcelo! “Always!” My Rating: 3.8

03. “Bossed Up” Feat. Monsta Beatz
Got some Beatz on tha feature, here… >>> Catchy hook and beat, here… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and you really “blowin’,” here, lol… Tha 2nd verse iz good, here, and I don’t mind all tha “money” shit, for some reason… My Rating: 3.9

04. “Police”
>>> “Slot machines” suck and have bad odds! That’s why, it’s all about Blackjack or Roulette! Catchy beat, and tha hook (wit dat voice) ain’t too bad… Good rhymes durin’ tha 1st verse, here; I think this iz catchy… Tha 2nd verse iz nice, too; always a paranoid Marcelo. :( My Rating: 4.3

05. “Writing’s On Da Wall” Feat. Fiend
>>> Great start wit tha beat, and Fiend kickin’ off tha 1st verse! Tha hook sounds good, too, strictly stayin’ motivated… Tha 2nd verse sounds good from you, too; it’s all about readin’ tha “writing” that’s “on tha wall.” I guess tha real title’s “Writing’s On Da Wall”? That’s what DatPiff says, but tha back cover says, “Written In The Wall”? Yuck @ tha 15 seconds of silence at tha end… My Rating: 4.3

06. “Joyride”
>>> Nice beat, and tha verses sound good, here. Glad you keepin’ it hood at all times! My Rating: 4.0

07. “2nd To None”
>>> Not anotha “Backstabbers” song… At least it’s just a beat sample and a “what they do” part. Tha verse ain’t too bad, here, and tha singer on tha hook’s not bad, but not listed… My Rating: 3.6

½time: So far, so good. Sounds like every joint sounds good and consistent! A 4-star CD, currently!

08. “Fly With Us” Feat. Curren$y
>>> Tha beat’s decent, here, but I’m likin’ tha coughin’ in tha beginning… Not bad wit tha rhymes, here, and Curren$y comes through wit some consistent rhymes. My Rating: 3.8

09. “JetLife General”
This one came up as #08 on tha DatPiff tracklisting, but I’m goin’ wit tha cover and makin’ this #09… >>> Beat’s aight; rhymes are good… Short and sweet, at least. My Rating: 3.7

10. “Celebration” Feat. Skip & B3
>>> Sounds okay, once again. These beats are startin’ ta be decent for me, and not standin’ out… Tha 1st verse’s good wit tha rhymes; let’s see how it continues… Skip on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit some good rhymes. Let’s see what gon remain wit B3 for the 3—verse, that iz, lol! Okay, much betta ta hear a voice like this, right now! Sounds like a big bodyguard, ready ta be resistant to P.A.N.z! My Rating: 3.9

11. “Cruise Control” Feat. Corner Boy P
>>> Beat sounds jazzy, here; nice ta rap on! Good job wit tha 1st verse, here… Damn, tha back cover ain’t list Corner Boy P on tha feature? Good thing for this DatPiff tracklisting… Seems like a really-good “smell” in tha “car” during tha 2nd verse; I feel dat! My Rating: 4.2

12. “Roll Weed” Feat. Dee Low
I know of Beelow, so who this Dee Low dude iz? Tha DatPiff tracklisting says he goes by “The Diamond Man”? >>> Beat sounds regular; nothin’ special, but tha rhymes are aight, here, on tha 1st verse… LOL @ tha 2nd verse, which iz a descriptive introduction to this “Mary [Keyshia] Jane” girl… Catchy verse! My Rating: 3.8

13. “Friends With Benefits”
>>> Now, we get some coughin’? Sounds okay for tha start, here… Really just wantin’ tha “benefits,” here, on tha hook… Hearin’ tha verses, and this iz okay, overall… My Rating: 3.5

14. “Crazy World” Feat. Jason Lyric & Jerkaman
Nice collab ta end this off? >>> Beat sounds nice, here, on a slightly-dark tip… Tha 1st verse sounds good, stayin’ “fly.” Singin’s aight on tha hook… Got tha lyrical Lyric on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some good rhymes; not bad… Jerkaman on tha 3rd verse (DatPiff has them in tha correct order, while they’re in tha wrong order on tha back cover). This sounds pretty good, too; nice job wit tha collab! My Rating: 4.1

Overall: Nice lil’ CD, overall; this qualifies as a good CD fa me, so nice job, Celo!

Review #1,215: Jason Lyric "Fit For A King (Hosted by DJ A Bay Bay & DJ 5150)"

Reviewed on 10.30.2012 (Review #1,215)

Keepin’ tha reviewz goin’, wit an anti-Sandy perspective, I have my boy, Jason Lyric up next! Props fa followin’ me on Twitter outta nowhere, too; that’s some real shit! This CD’s called Fit For A King (Hosted by DJ A Bay Bay & DJ 5150), and let’s see how it does wit me on this review! Start Time: 12:32 PM | End Time: 1:06 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! © 2012 CD Review (Review #1,215) reviewed on 10.30.2012 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “King”
Y.E. Beatz on tha production, here; let’s see how this shit goes… >>> Wasn’t too sure about tha intro, here, but tha 1st verse ain’t too bad, so far…—wait, lemme make dat one verse, and it sounds like it’s gettin’ betta wit tha consistency; not too bad… Tha end iz startin’ ta sound like Meek a lil’, which I would’ve rather’ve heard that four years ago, not now! My Rating: 3.9

02. “Gotta Get It”
Jordan David doin’ a beat for you, here. >>> Not too bad for tha rappin’, so far. Once again, just one verse it sounds like, and it’s good. Oh wait, I hear a hook and it sounds catchy; keep grindin’! My Rating: 4.0

03. “Might Not Make It”
What’s up wit this title? Phunk Dawg on tha beat… >>> Sounds good, but I think you made an error? You say, “Might not make it,” but tha title’s “Make Not Make It”? I’m gonna fix it ‘cause I said so, lol! Beat doesn’t sound like it would be Phunk; it sounds too much like typical, trap rap of today, which iz kinda boring. But, for tha song itself, it ain’t that blah-blah-y… Tha rest sounds okay; nothin’ standin’ out fa me, but whateva. My Rating: 3.7

04. “Talk 2 You”
Beat by DJ Mathematics; hope it’s good! >>> Ehh, I dunno about a sample (Keyshia Cole); I don’t like (and don’t get) when people put random samples in songs… As far as your rappin’, there’s not much to say; I think 3:50’s a lil’ too long for a song like this. My Rating: 3.1

05. “Play With Me” Feat. Magnolia Chop
Y.E. Beatz, here. >>> Didn’t know what ta expect at first, but good hook from Magnolia! Still, tha same-soundin’ beats of tha typical music of today? Yawn… But, tha rhymes on tha verses sound good, here. If this iz a mixtape, then why are most of these songs really long? Sick of tha Rick Ross-type shit/quotes on tha 3rd verse; what’s with everyone dickridin’ him? He’s fake; no need to dickride tha fake! My Rating: 3.7

06. “For The People”
Yung Mil beat; not anticipatin’ this length! >>> I’m likin’ tha beat a whole lot; tha hook ain’t too bad on this track… So far, this iz off to an okay start; lemme hear tha verses… Good “internet / Jeezy” part wit tha rhymes; I liked hearin’ dat! You sound a lil’ like The Show on this joint wit tha voice; that’s a plus, Louisiana style! Good outro from a different show (lol) at tha end, too! My Rating: 4.1

07. “She Got Everything”
Y.E. Beatz on this one, again. >>> Ooh, real nice beat start; sounds like it could be played somewhere! I almost thought I was expectin’ EDM music wit tha HQ beginning, but this HQ feel’s got me in tha mood! Strange vocals on tha hook, but this iz nice and catchy, flamin’ hot!! Too bad tha length’s 4:33, smfh! How ‘bout 3:00? Why not 3:01? Great job wit your verses; learn to shrink tha lengths of your mixtape songs!! My Rating: 4.2

08. “Crazy Stupid” Feat. Josh Gates
Lookin’ forward ta this collaboration, wit Y.E. Beatz on tha beat! Hope tha length’s short… *Checks length* Okay, 3:13, that’s reasonable! >>> Good job wit tha hook, here; I’m likin’ this beat a lot, too! Good shit on tha 1st verse, includin’ “smearin’ bitches’ lipstick;” damn! Max Minelli start? I dunno about your verse; hate hearin’ tha word “swag!” What happened to tha word “style,” and straight words? This whole rap world sounds like males kissing each other, these dayz, smh! Lyrics sound a lil’ betta as tha verse continues, but I wasn’t all tha way impressed! My Rating: 3.8

½time: I’m at tha ½ point, and we’re at a 3.8 for tha average CD rating, currently; decent.

09. “Woman” Feat. Jahbo
Ben Rosen on tha beat. >>> Ehh, not feelin’ tha start wit tha singer; tha length’s also gonna get me bored fast… Even though this sounds boring wit tha beat and nothin’ really catchin’ on, it ain’t tha worst… My Rating: 3.1

10. “iPhone”
A Yung Shun beat; let’s hear… >>> Not really into tha topic, that much, but it’s a catchy hook and beat, combined. Tha flow ain’t really for me, but this ain’t too bad, either… Some of it’s good, though, wit tha “got whateva you want, holla at cha boy” shit… My Rating: 3.6

11. “She Don’t Understand”
Y.E. Beatz, here. >>> Random intro? Ugh, tha long length again! This iz so not for me, especially since a Louisiana rapper borrowed $555 from me and didn’t pay me back a penny, yet, and it’s almost a year to tha day! Flow’s nice and slow wit tha beat, but I think what would make me like this (kinda) iz for us to do business; money’s tha only answer for me now, especially since I did 238472903842340238940820423948320423904239049023904239402390423890942384902349023 different things fa Louisiana by now! My Rating: 3.4

12. “Worth Fighting For”
Beat Gaterz beat. >>> Anotha one not for me, even though it’s a lil’ catchy; here we go again wit tha males kissing each other-soundin’ hook! I sound betta sayin’ that I’m pickin’ my nose through this, right now… Oh yea, tha length’s a big turn off fa this random song! My Rating: 3.7 (!!!)

13. “Smash Out”
Y.E. Beatz, here. >>> Length’s finally normal, even though tha beat could be a lil’ betta. I think you need some original production ta back you up… Tha hook sounds catchy, in a somewhat-good mainstream perspective… Tha verses sound good wit this beat, too. My Rating: 3.7

14. “I Get Money” Feat. Mr. Marcelo, Jerkaman & Mr. Real Estate
Y.E. Beatz; even though a nice-lookin’ collaboration, I’m not lookin’ forward to a title like this! >>> Bad intro, but an okay hook. Yucky lyrics on tha 1st verse; “money” iz now a reason why I hate certain mainstream rap shit today! Oh, and false-underground shit, too! Even though this iz super-long, at least there’s features on this! Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, except tha extended lyrics about “money.” Tha 3rd dude I can say tha same about… Tha 4th verse has a better voice, and tha lyrics are a lil’ betta… My Rating: 3.9

15. “Make You Love Me”
Legit beat. >>> Ehh, not into a sample again! Doesn’t sound bad wit your rappin’ on this beat, though, but tha sample ain’t too much for me… A lil’ long; this prolly could’ve been a minute shorter. My Rating: 3.0

16. “I’m Gone” Feat. M11
Y.E. Beatz; not feelin’ this length! >>> Ehh, this iz okay… I’m likin’ how you’re comin’ through on tha 1st verse on this beat; sounds like you can hold err-body down… Tha 2nd verse sounds like you’re too obsessed wit “swag” and that males-kissing-each-other word!! Tha 3rd verse ain’t too bad, either, but this could be a lil’ boring wit tha same kinda content… My Rating: 3.3

17. “No Worries (Remix)”
It’s tha last joint on this CD, and it’s removed from tha DatPiff folder. Gonna get a 30-second sample; maybe tha false features (Lil’ Wayne & Detail) are why it’s removed? >>> Too Meek for me, and tha others ruin it! Takin’ them outta tha feature! My Rating: 1.3

Overall: Could’ve been better. If making mixtapes, try shortening tha songs—that’s anotha thing: I dunno why artists only make what they call, “mixtapes,” these dayz. It’s like, what happened to albums? I remember hearin’ on this CD somethin’ like, “Rest in peace Lil’ Phat.” Well, last year, Lil’ Phat put out Never Use A Pen Again; if you guys love him so much, why not make an album like him? I know I’m goin’ on about this, but I wanna go back to tha dayz where there were no mixtapes!! I’ll cry like a fuckin’ baby!! But yea, keep rappin’ and stay connected wit me!

01. “Hoodstar”
Produced by DJ BlaqNMild (I always forget how to exactly stylize his name). Looks like a familiar title? Looks like it’s in my iTunes already, only this iz featureless. My Current Rating: 4.4

02. “Dopeman”
Blaq N Mild again! >>> I think this iz a newbie fa me; once again, sounds like anotha anthem. My Rating: 4.2

03. “That’s My Bitch”
Blaq N Mild… >>> Kinda like 50/50 for me; not really 100% my style, since it sounds automatic/cocky, but it has a lil’ bit of some good shit goin’ on from Blaq on tha beat… My Rating: 3.7

04. “My Balls & My Word” Feat. Roca B
Production from Street King. Previously heard; why no features listed? This iz featurin’ Roca B! My Current Rating: 4.4

05. “Who Do I Trust”
Blaq on tha beat, again! >>> Good 504, street-type beat from Blaq, here; good shit from you wit tha rhymes, too. Kinda surprised dat you don’t hit me up like crazy, or even have done business wit me, yet; I’m loyal to tha bone! You should be obsessed! My Rating: 4.1

06. “Big Dawg” Feat. Ceto
LOL, a feature listed, this time? Anotha good collaboration, courtesy of Blaq on tha beat, again! My Current Rating: 4.7

07. “Keep It 100”
Looks like an old title, but Blaq N Mild on tha beat… >>> Good; nothin’ much ta say, since it’s like your other anthems… My Rating: 4.2

08. “Uptown” Feat. B.G.
Anotha huge one that’s featured on here; thanx, Blaq, for doin’ a great track!! My Current Rating: 4.6

½time: I think this iz a pretty consistent mixtape, once again; can’t eva stop!! A 4.3-rated mixtape, currently!!!

09. “Mo Money, No Problems”
Street King doin’ his thang on tha beat, still! My Current Rating: 4.2

10. “New Orleans” Feat. Ceto
I believe it’s a.k.a. “Welcome To New Orleans”… My Current Rating: 4.6

11. “Daily Prayer” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Cutta
? >>> Not really my style; semi-tight, at times, though, and at least there’s good rhymes goin’ on from everyone… Everything sounds like it could be one of tha 2012 big songs in tha streetz, except for some of tha hook’s samp—ah, I’m thinkin’ it’s really catchy, now! My Rating: 4.3

12. “Maintaining” Feat. KIs
Ooh, some drugs on tha feature, lol, as well as a beat from Street King! Oh wait, heard this already! My Current Rating: 4.5

13. “I Gotta Make It”
LOL, goin’ backwards wit tha tracklisting from Ghetto Hero, lol? My Current Rating: 4.4

14. “Superish” Feat. Ceto & Mr. Marcelo
Knew this sounded familiar once tha beat kicked in…; once again, produced by Street King! My Current Rating: 4.3

15. “My Ghetto” Feat. B.G.
Beat Doctor beat! >>> Sounds like regular 504 productions; nothin’ really special… Not too much into tha hook, although it sounds like a good anthem for tha trap starz… Good job from tha both of you guys wit your verses (you, two; B.G., tha 3rd verse), as y’all’re holdin’ it down… My Rating: 3.6

16. “My First Love”
Blaq N Mild beat. >>> Avant/Keke Wyant song in 2011? Not really likin’ that tha hook has a high-pitched, female voice, now; when will producers give dat dumb shit up? Rhymes aight, but nothin’ I’d die for… My Rating: 2.9

17. “I’m On Fire (Bounce Mix)” Feat. Magnolia Shorty
Ooh, I wanna hear it wit Magnolia Shorty on tha feature!! Even, got Blaq on tha beat ta end it off!! >>> Yes, normal, bounce music, finally; sounds consistent and identified, unlike most music today, where tha music world’s an identity crisis: everyone from everywhere has tha same sound!! I hear Magnolia Shorty…; she’s just in tha background? Pretty disappointin’; couldn’t be like Soulja Slim and have, like, words and words in tha hook or somethin’? Nice ending, though; how “on fire” it was, lol! My Rating: 4.5

Overall: A nice lil’ update from tha previous Ghetto Hero, but slightly, in a negative way, since tha average CD rating went down by 1/10. But, good job…

Review #819: Calliope Var "Ghetto Hero (Hosted by DJ 5150)"

Reviewed on 1.21.2011 (Review #819)

Keepin’ thangz goin’: Next, it’s Calliope Var “Ghetto Hero (Hosted by DJ 5150)! Start Time: 2:12 PM | End Time: 2:48 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Ease Da Pain (Intro)”
>>> Gay start for tha sample. At least your rappin’ iz nice, here. My Rating: 3.8

02. “Ghetto Hero” Feat. B Streezy
>>> Don’t like tha vocals in this hook but tha beat sounds interestin’ fa somethin’ you can rap on. You’re holdin’ down tha rappin’ and representin’ on dis, too. My Rating: 3.9

03. “Father Forgive Me” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Cutta
>>> Although not my kinda title, I really like tha non-English chantin’ in this; non-English chantin’ iz somethin’ that has always interested me! Tha verses sound good; good, interestin’ collaboration, too. Neva heard Cutta before; he sounds like he blends in good wit you and Marcelo. My Rating: 4.3

04. “Da Streets Made Me” Feat. Soulja Slim
Always good ta have Soulja Slim here and there on various CDs! >>> Sounds good (as always); catchy hook fa “da streets”! “September tha 19th, 1983…;” props on your birthday; glad I know! Tight content, too; great song, overall! My Rating: 4.3

05. “Mo Money, No Problems”
>>> Thought I heard this before; don’t rememba… Catchy song, hook, and how you come through wit tha tightness! My Rating: 4.2

06. “I’m A Gangster” Feat. Eldorado Red
“Gangter”? >>> I guess it’s an error on tha back cover ‘cause my iTunes says, “gangster”. Anyway, this sounds like anotha anthem you’re bringin’ to tha streetz; nice and consistent you are! Thumbs up fa bringin’ this Eldorado Red dude on tha feature! He said, “Alabama to Calliope;” iz he from “Alabama”? Sounds pretty tight for a collab! My Rating: 4.2

07. “My Balls And My Word” Feat. Roca B
>>> Definitely an anthem here! Feelin’ how tha hook sounds and tha true shit you got on lock; good shit/combo, once again!! Nothin’ but tightness, here, as well as tha consistent way you keep this street shit alive!! My Rating: 4.4

08. “I Don’t Give A Fuck” Feat. Mr. Marcelo
>>> Anticipatin’ beat start here… Feelin’ tha attitude; who can’t like dis? Keepin’ thangz goin’ to tha fullest!! Again, this anotha tight collab! My Rating: 4.3

09. “Hoodstar” Feat. Cutta & Mr. Marcelo
LOL, I remember you had a CD called “Hoodstar” in 2009; surprised I didn’t see this anywhere (as far as me knowin’). >>> Sounds like anotha anthem; keepin’ consistent music pumpin’!! Such a great collaboration! Y’all can collaborate for tha rest of tha songs; it’ll still sound tight as hell! My Rating: 4.4

½time: This iz a nice mixtape you got, Var! So far, you’re lookin’ at a 4.2; how will you continue ta do?

10. “I’m Strapped” Feat. Mr. Harvey
>>> Why does it sound like Juelz Santana’s “aye” shit in tha beginning? Regardless, a definite anthem to tha fullest!! This beat’s real nice ta help you wit tha rappin’ and shit; thumbs up! I didn’t realize Mr. Harvey blended in wit dis, lol. My Rating: 4.5

11. “Welcome To New Orleans” Feat. Ceto
I think I played one of these new songs on my radio show durin’ my boy Jimmy The DJ’s edition; this might’ve been tha one. >>> Oh naw, it was “Superish”; anotha dude had this title but this iz definitely on a tighter level! Tha beat’s really hot as far as a Rap genre! Your rappin’ iz consistent as a ma’fucka! Good-ass shit here, my boy! Gotta have dat “kush,” too, my boy!! Ceto doin’ a nice job helpin’ you out, too! What more could you want wit dis? It has everything ta satisfy a Rap luva! My Rating: 4.6

12. “I Gotta Make It”
>>> Feelin’ this! You got dat good-ass “smoke”-type shit you rappin’ ‘bout as well as for tha streetz! You always got my support, bruh! My Rating: 4.4

13. “Maintaining” Feat. Ki’s
LOL, iz that featured artist, like, keys, lol? This should definitely be interestin’!! >>> I like how this sounds, too! I think I’m likin’ it betta than tha last song; real consistent, at tha moment!! Must be Ki’s on tha 1st verse; anotha good discovery from you, Var! You’re doin’ a nice job wit holdin’ dis track down, too! It’s all about survivin’ a.k.a. “maintainin’”! My Rating: 4.5

14. “Front Door Swangin’” Feat. Maceo & Ray Vicks
LOL, haven’t heard Maceo on anything in tha longest time. You even brought Ray on tha track, too; let’s hear dis! >>> This iz some hot shit! Too bad it seemed like Maceo fell outta tha spotlight, it seemed like. I thought he was pretty active from ’05 – ’06. Then, I think I heard a mixtape of his in ’08 that I didn’t hear much noise about. Now, it’s still a quiet mainstream area fa him. But, he sounds real nice on dis joint right chea! Once again, I’m glad you’re doin’ ya thang, Var; glad ta have you recruit people on your mixtape as well as these bangaz!! “More stripes than a zebra;” you know what it iz! Ray iz always decent fa me; he keeps tha mood alive wit his trap shit, though! My Rating: 4.6

15. “Superish” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Ceto
Here it iz, lol. Lemme review it. >>> No matter what’s said, it sounds good! I like how you say tha title and have it echo; sounds good! All about “feelin’” good to tha fullest! Again, good job on havin’ tha features, too; err-body doin’ they thang fa these 504 streetz!! My Current Rating: 4.3

16. “I’m On It” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Lil’ Cali
If Lil’ Cali’s on it, do I know it? >>> Yea, this sounds familiar! Definitely a hot-ass song!! I guess this iz a new remix wit Lil’ Cali on it ‘cause it was just you and Celo on tha 1st version. Sounds pretty nice wit Cali on this; good combo, once again! My Rating: 4.8

17. “My Hood (Remix)” Feat. B.G., Mannie Fresh & Gar
LOL… >>> And, all tha others on tha feature, too: Mannie Fresh & Gar, lol. LOL, just mainly a 1st verse from you. Tha rest iz what it iz although this song got boring ta me after I heard it for a while. My Rating: 4.0

18. “Rite Now”
>>> Sounds anticipatin’ wit tha start; let’s get it! Tha hook’s a lil’ weird on tha vocals but again, tha lyrics are pretty good on it. I hear someone’s beat tag within this song (as well as a few others on here); not sure who it iz. Pretty-good-soundin’ song “rite” here, lol. My Rating: 4.1

19. “Cutta Solo” (Cutta)
Must be Cutta’s on song; let’s hear it! >>> Tha beat sounds good ta hold him down. Not likin’ tha “swag/hoe” combo that happens throughout tha hook; this ain’t too bad… My Rating: 3.6

Overall: Nice job, Var; you’re always very consistent wit it! Always stay on your grind!!
