Review #1,106: DJ 5150 & Calliope Var "Ghetto Hero 2.0"

Reviewed on 12.26.2011 (Review #1,106)

I’m up pretty early, thanx to me dyin’ ta watch VH1’s 40 Winningest Winners Of 2011! So, now, I’m motivated to review; here iz my 1^st review for today: DJ 5150 & Calliope Var Ghetto Hero 2.0. Start Time: 7:31 AM End Time: 7:53 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I already love it. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating! Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Hoodstar”
Produced by DJ BlaqNMild (I always forget how to exactly stylize his name). Looks like a familiar title? Looks like it’s in my iTunes already, only this iz featureless. My Current Rating: 4.4

02. “Dopeman”
Blaq N Mild again! >>> I think this iz a newbie fa me; once again, sounds like anotha anthem. My Rating: 4.2

03. “That’s My Bitch”
Blaq N Mild… >>> Kinda like 50/50 for me; not really 100% my style, since it sounds automatic/cocky, but it has a lil’ bit of some good shit goin’ on from Blaq on tha beat… My Rating: 3.7

04. “My Balls & My Word” Feat. Roca B
Production from Street King. Previously heard; why no features listed? This iz featurin’ Roca B! My Current Rating: 4.4

05. “Who Do I Trust”
Blaq on tha beat, again! >>> Good 504, street-type beat from Blaq, here; good shit from you wit tha rhymes, too. Kinda surprised dat you don’t hit me up like crazy, or even have done business wit me, yet; I’m loyal to tha bone! You should be obsessed! My Rating: 4.1

06. “Big Dawg” Feat. Ceto
LOL, a feature listed, this time? Anotha good collaboration, courtesy of Blaq on tha beat, again! My Current Rating: 4.7

07. “Keep It 100”
Looks like an old title, but Blaq N Mild on tha beat… >>> Good; nothin’ much ta say, since it’s like your other anthems… My Rating: 4.2

08. “Uptown” Feat. B.G.
Anotha huge one that’s featured on here; thanx, Blaq, for doin’ a great track!! My Current Rating: 4.6

½time: I think this iz a pretty consistent mixtape, once again; can’t eva stop!! A 4.3-rated mixtape, currently!!!

09. “Mo Money, No Problems”
Street King doin’ his thang on tha beat, still! My Current Rating: 4.2

10. “New Orleans” Feat. Ceto
I believe it’s a.k.a. “Welcome To New Orleans”… My Current Rating: 4.6

11. “Daily Prayer” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Cutta
? >>> Not really my style; semi-tight, at times, though, and at least there’s good rhymes goin’ on from everyone… Everything sounds like it could be one of tha 2012 big songs in tha streetz, except for some of tha hook’s samp—ah, I’m thinkin’ it’s really catchy, now! My Rating: 4.3

12. “Maintaining” Feat. KIs
Ooh, some drugs on tha feature, lol, as well as a beat from Street King! Oh wait, heard this already! My Current Rating: 4.5

13. “I Gotta Make It”
LOL, goin’ backwards wit tha tracklisting from Ghetto Hero, lol? My Current Rating: 4.4

14. “Superish” Feat. Ceto & Mr. Marcelo
Knew this sounded familiar once tha beat kicked in…; once again, produced by Street King! My Current Rating: 4.3

15. “My Ghetto” Feat. B.G.
Beat Doctor beat! >>> Sounds like regular 504 productions; nothin’ really special… Not too much into tha hook, although it sounds like a good anthem for tha trap starz… Good job from tha both of you guys wit your verses (you, two; B.G., tha 3^rd verse), as y’all’re holdin’ it down… My Rating: 3.6

16. “My First Love”
Blaq N Mild beat. >>> Avant/Keke Wyant song in 2011? Not really likin’ that tha hook has a high-pitched, female voice, now; when will producers give dat dumb shit up? Rhymes aight, but nothin’ I’d die for… My Rating: 2.9

17. “I’m On Fire (Bounce Mix)” Feat. Magnolia Shorty
Ooh, I wanna hear it wit Magnolia Shorty on tha feature!! Even, got Blaq on tha beat ta end it off!! >>> Yes, normal, bounce music, finally; sounds consistent and identified, unlike most music today, where tha music world’s an identity crisis: everyone from everywhere has tha same sound!! I hear Magnolia Shorty…; she’s just in tha background? Pretty disappointin’; couldn’t be like Soulja Slim and have, like, words and words in tha hook or somethin’? Nice ending, though; how “on fire” it was, lol! My Rating: 4.5

Overall: A nice lil’ update from tha previous Ghetto Hero, but slightly, in a negative way, since tha average CD rating went down by 1/10. But, good job…

01. “Ease Da Pain (Intro)”
>>> Gay start for tha sample. At least your rappin’ iz nice, here. My Rating: 3.8

02. “Ghetto Hero” Feat. B Streezy
>>> Don’t like tha vocals in this hook but tha beat sounds interestin’ fa somethin’ you can rap on. You’re holdin’ down tha rappin’ and representin’ on dis, too. My Rating: 3.9

03. “Father Forgive Me” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Cutta
>>> Although not my kinda title, I really like tha non-English chantin’ in this; non-English chantin’ iz somethin’ that has always interested me! Tha verses sound good; good, interestin’ collaboration, too. Neva heard Cutta before; he sounds like he blends in good wit you and Marcelo. My Rating: 4.3

04. “Da Streets Made Me” Feat. Soulja Slim
Always good ta have Soulja Slim here and there on various CDs! >>> Sounds good (as always); catchy hook fa “da streets”! “September tha 19th, 1983…;” props on your birthday; glad I know! Tight content, too; great song, overall! My Rating: 4.3

05. “Mo Money, No Problems”
>>> Thought I heard this before; don’t rememba… Catchy song, hook, and how you come through wit tha tightness! My Rating: 4.2

06. “I’m A Gangster” Feat. Eldorado Red
“Gangter”? >>> I guess it’s an error on tha back cover ‘cause my iTunes says, “gangster”. Anyway, this sounds like anotha anthem you’re bringin’ to tha streetz; nice and consistent you are! Thumbs up fa bringin’ this Eldorado Red dude on tha feature! He said, “Alabama to Calliope;” iz he from “Alabama”? Sounds pretty tight for a collab! My Rating: 4.2

07. “My Balls And My Word” Feat. Roca B
>>> Definitely an anthem here! Feelin’ how tha hook sounds and tha true shit you got on lock; good shit/combo, once again!! Nothin’ but tightness, here, as well as tha consistent way you keep this street shit alive!! My Rating: 4.4

08. “I Don’t Give A Fuck” Feat. Mr. Marcelo
>>> Anticipatin’ beat start here… Feelin’ tha attitude; who can’t like dis? Keepin’ thangz goin’ to tha fullest!! Again, this anotha tight collab! My Rating: 4.3

09. “Hoodstar” Feat. Cutta & Mr. Marcelo
LOL, I remember you had a CD called “Hoodstar” in 2009; surprised I didn’t see this anywhere (as far as me knowin’). >>> Sounds like anotha anthem; keepin’ consistent music pumpin’!! Such a great collaboration! Y’all can collaborate for tha rest of tha songs; it’ll still sound tight as hell! My Rating: 4.4

½time: This iz a nice mixtape you got, Var! So far, you’re lookin’ at a 4.2; how will you continue ta do?

10. “I’m Strapped” Feat. Mr. Harvey
>>> Why does it sound like Juelz Santana’s “aye” shit in tha beginning? Regardless, a definite anthem to tha fullest!! This beat’s real nice ta help you wit tha rappin’ and shit; thumbs up! I didn’t realize Mr. Harvey blended in wit dis, lol. My Rating: 4.5

11. “Welcome To New Orleans” Feat. Ceto
I think I played one of these new songs on my radio show durin’ my boy Jimmy The DJ’s edition; this might’ve been tha one. >>> Oh naw, it was “Superish”; anotha dude had this title but this iz definitely on a tighter level! Tha beat’s really hot as far as a Rap genre! Your rappin’ iz consistent as a ma’fucka! Good-ass shit here, my boy! Gotta have dat “kush,” too, my boy!! Ceto doin’ a nice job helpin’ you out, too! What more could you want wit dis? It has everything ta satisfy a Rap luva! My Rating: 4.6

12. “I Gotta Make It”
>>> Feelin’ this! You got dat good-ass “smoke”-type shit you rappin’ ‘bout as well as for tha streetz! You always got my support, bruh! My Rating: 4.4

13. “Maintaining” Feat. Ki’s
LOL, iz that featured artist, like, keys, lol? This should definitely be interestin’!! >>> I like how this sounds, too! I think I’m likin’ it betta than tha last song; real consistent, at tha moment!! Must be Ki’s on tha 1st verse; anotha good discovery from you, Var! You’re doin’ a nice job wit holdin’ dis track down, too! It’s all about survivin’ a.k.a. “maintainin’”! My Rating: 4.5

14. “Front Door Swangin’” Feat. Maceo & Ray Vicks
LOL, haven’t heard Maceo on anything in tha longest time. You even brought Ray on tha track, too; let’s hear dis! >>> This iz some hot shit! Too bad it seemed like Maceo fell outta tha spotlight, it seemed like. I thought he was pretty active from ’05 – ’06. Then, I think I heard a mixtape of his in ’08 that I didn’t hear much noise about. Now, it’s still a quiet mainstream area fa him. But, he sounds real nice on dis joint right chea! Once again, I’m glad you’re doin’ ya thang, Var; glad ta have you recruit people on your mixtape as well as these bangaz!! “More stripes than a zebra;” you know what it iz! Ray iz always decent fa me; he keeps tha mood alive wit his trap shit, though! My Rating: 4.6

15. “Superish” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Ceto
Here it iz, lol. Lemme review it. >>> No matter what’s said, it sounds good! I like how you say tha title and have it echo; sounds good! All about “feelin’” good to tha fullest! Again, good job on havin’ tha features, too; err-body doin’ they thang fa these 504 streetz!! My Current Rating: 4.3

16. “I’m On It” Feat. Mr. Marcelo & Lil’ Cali
If Lil’ Cali’s on it, do I know it? >>> Yea, this sounds familiar! Definitely a hot-ass song!! I guess this iz a new remix wit Lil’ Cali on it ‘cause it was just you and Celo on tha 1st version. Sounds pretty nice wit Cali on this; good combo, once again! My Rating: 4.8

17. “My Hood (Remix)” Feat. B.G., Mannie Fresh & Gar
LOL… >>> And, all tha others on tha feature, too: Mannie Fresh & Gar, lol. LOL, just mainly a 1st verse from you. Tha rest iz what it iz although this song got boring ta me after I heard it for a while. My Rating: 4.0

18. “Rite Now”
>>> Sounds anticipatin’ wit tha start; let’s get it! Tha hook’s a lil’ weird on tha vocals but again, tha lyrics are pretty good on it. I hear someone’s beat tag within this song (as well as a few others on here); not sure who it iz. Pretty-good-soundin’ song “rite” here, lol. My Rating: 4.1

19. “Cutta Solo” (Cutta)
Must be Cutta’s on song; let’s hear it! >>> Tha beat sounds good ta hold him down. Not likin’ tha “swag/hoe” combo that happens throughout tha hook; this ain’t too bad… My Rating: 3.6

Overall: Nice job, Var; you’re always very consistent wit it! Always stay on your grind!!
