R.I.P. Video #49: G-Slimm

Broadcasting from an abandoned bowling alley, right here in Rockland, NY, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog here, rememberin' anotha legend in tha undaground, Louisiana rap community.

Today, Thursday, October 13, 2016, marks 20 years since tha killing of New Orleans, LA rapper, G-Slimm. G-Slimm was born Kenneth Jackson Jr. on February 17, 1975 in New Orleans, LA. Jackson signed with Big Boy Records with Mystikal back in 1993, thanx to labelhead/producer, Leroy "Precise" Edwards. Tha label had one of its best-sellers when Jackson released his debut album, Fours, Deuces & Trays, on May 27, 1994. Tha album went on to sell over 200,000 copies in tha first month of its release. To follow-up his debut, Jackson started workin' on his 2nd album. During tha recording process, he began to seek fortune when he was offered a record deal with Relativity Records. However, due to tha fame, his mother, Emelda Williams, predicted that his ever-growing music career would soon cost him his life. On October 13, 1996, at around 1:30 PM, while walking with three others to tha store in tha 1900 block of Murl Street near Wall Boulevard, Jackson and his goonz were shot at. While Jackson's patnaz suffered not-serious shots to tha ankle and in tha calf, Jackson suffered one shot in tha back, later dying at Charity Hospital at only 21 years-old. His 2nd album, R.I.P. G-Slimm, was released in 1997 on Big Boy Records.

R.I.P. Video #41: Chuck Temple (Big Boy Records)

Recorded September 21, 2015

Broadcasting from tha Port Jeff Pits here in Port Jefferson Station, NY, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog here, reportin' anotha tragic loss in tha undaground, Louisiana rap community...

Raymond Temple, Jr., known to tha industry as Big Chucc, passed away from a heart attack on Monday, September 21, 2015, only turning 48 just five dayz prior. Temple was known for starting one of tha biggest underground record labels in New Orleans called Big Boy Records, alongside Leroy "Precise" Edwards, in 1993. Tha label was responsible for dozens of classic releases throughout tha '90s and multiple parts of tha 2000s, ranging from Black Menace, to G-Slimm, to Fiend, to Mystikal, to Partners-N-Crime, to Sporty-T, to tha Ghetto Twiinz & more. Tha label's buzz even generated some beef between Cash Money Records, as fellow N'awlinzer, B.G., released tha track, "Fuck Big Boy", in '95. Despite tha beef, tha label would go on to continue to release more music, including a greatest hits compilation in 2004.

Review #969: Big Boy Records Presents "We G's, The Compilation Album"

Reviewed on 6.06.2011 (Review #969)

‘Bout ta resume tha marathon, since it’s Monday! This 1st review I have for today iz a compilation: Big Boy Records Presents “We G’s, The Compilation Album! Start Time: 9:46 AM | End Time: 10:17 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. Insane “Frankie The Screwdriver”
ROFL @ this title!! >>> Whoo!!! Real consistent wit tha rappin’ and tha rhymes!!! This iz really catchy, especially tha hook; feelin’ tha street content, mixed wit some “Frankie tha screwdriver” shit! Good job wit all these verses; nothin’ but tha best street shit fa tha 504!! My Rating: 4.8

02. Insane Feat. J-Dawg “We G’s”
Let’s hear it! >>> Beat’s off to a nice, somewhat-relaxin’ start. Ooh, “500 pounds of weed;” definitely some good-ass shit on tha hook, here!!! Tha 1st verse iz hot; definitely feelin’ tha flow and all tha lyrics! LOL, non-stop verses goin’ on, here; really likin’ tha shit afta 2:20!! R-R-R-R-Rapid wit consistency!!! My Rating: 4.7

03. G-Slimm “Niggaz Claim”
Let’s see what tha former-livin’ dude has ta offer! >>> Oh, this “G’s In The Sky” song I played on my radio show last week? Ironic, especially since it had dat title fa an alternative title; I believe I had ta edit this, too. Anyway, this iz a betta-soundin’ song fa G-Slimm; good beat and consistent rhymes! Too bad he died. Tha hook sounds pretty catchy wit tha singin’, too! My Rating: 4.3

04. Lil’ Lipp “The 1 They Talkin’ ‘Bout”
Neva heard of this dude; lookin’ forward ta hearin’! >>> Shoutin’ out “G-Slimm” and givin’ him an “R.I.P.;” thumbs up! Tha hook sounds nice wit this G-Funk/’90s style! I like tha “… game, bruh” ad-lib dat came outta nowhere in tha background of tha 1st verse; you know what it iz! Those ad-libs are nice wit tha good rhymes Lil’ Lipp’s offerin’; thumbs up fa this 504-type shit!! Oh, he’s “from tha Boot Camp Click;” I see… My Rating: 4.4

05. J-Dawg “Anybody Killa”
>>> This iz anotha really hot-soundin’ song, too; ace-soundin’ production wit a great hook fa tha hoodz!! Nothin’s betta than tha rhymes, especially tha 1st verse, here, wit tha rapid, consistent, quality rhymes!!! Damn, J-Dawg, you tha shit!! Not even stoppin’ on tha 2nd verse, lol; what else could I expect from this song?!? LOL, tha 3rd verse, too? Almost a perfect-rated song, I feel; very close but this should easily be tha top-ranked song on this CD!! Gotta get a song like dis on my radio show; these lil’ gems are hidden in CDs, sometimes! My Rating: 4.9

06. Ice Mike “Monkey On My Back”
Yes, Ice Mike!! >>> Feelin’ tha production; gotta luv this compilation CD and dis whole vibe goin’ on!! Yes, here’s Mike, “three in tha mornin’;” definitely feelin’ focused to tha bone!! LOL @ tha hook wit this “help me, help me” shit; sounds like it could go a serious way or an entertainin’ way. Tha 2nd verse sounds betta; feelin’ tha hood/”drugs”-related shit!! My Rating: 4.4

07. G-Quikk “Neva Gonna Be Faded”
Don’t think I heard him, either… >>> This sounds good; could sound like a good, spooky song wit those vocals on tha hook! Ooh, tha same vocals—on a more-awake tip, lol—on tha rappin’, and they sound tight!! Gotta feel tha 504, rapid-fire-type shit!! Good job wit all tha verses; this definitely iz some quality shit fa tha streetz!! My Rating: 4.6

½time: This iz definitely a hot compilation CD; really feelin’ all tha jointz on here!!! So far, this CD’s at a whoppin’ 4.6 for tha CD rating!!!!!!

08. Rated X “It’s A Hit”
Lookin’ forward ta hearin’ them! >>> Ooh, really likin’ tha Blondie “Rapture” sample in tha bassline!! Sounds good on tha verses, too, wit tha crazy-ass rappin’ and rhymes!!! Tha hook sounds pretty serious wit tha “when we drive by, nigga, it’s a hit” shit; go, Rated X, go!! Nothin’ but consistent-ass verses; rofl @ tha “Chuckie” part! My Rating: 4.5

09. Soldier Sporty “Still Ballin’”
Iz this Sporty T or someone else? Lemme see… >>> Sounds like someone different dat I neva heard before; really feelin’ how he comin’ through on tha mic!!! Damn, Big Boy Records definitely has some of tha hottest shit ta offer fa tha ’97 and tha 504!!! I really like tha fast vibe, here—prolly 90 – 100 BPM! Tha hook sounds…—fa’get it, I knew this was Sporty-T afta hearin’ tha hook! My Current Rating: 4.6

10. Ghetto Slaves “Sho-Love”
Looks like a tight artist/title… >>> Sounds pretty catchy wit this singin’ hook and tha rhymes are definitely on ‘n’ poppin’! I’m glad this iz pretty long ‘cause there’s a bunch of shit ta offer, in an A – A+ way!! My Rating: 4.4

11. Da Boot Camp Clicc “All I Know”
Looks like a familiar title? Thumbs up on tha spelling fa Da Boot Camp Clicc! >>> This sounds real hot wit tha hook; definitely feelin’ this for a start!! Ooh, tha 1st verse iz definitely to tha point wit these kick-ass lyrics!!!!! Tha 2nd verse iz good, too; ooh, feelin’ tha “Girbaud jeans saggin’;” you know I gotta give a thumbs up fa anybody wearin’ “Girbaud jeans” as well as havin’ tha courage ta have ‘em “saggin’,” too! You know I fuck wit dat style when it comes ta showin’ luv ta people! Tha 3rd verse sounds cool, too; really feelin’ tha consistent rhymes wit this great voice! Ooh, tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse iz on tha same level wit tha great quality!! My Rating: 4.7

12. Seventeenth Survivors “Livin’ Da Life”
Now this looks like it gon be a tight one! I really like tha artist name, once again!! >>> Ooh, tight, fast vibe wit tha beat and tha rhymes are really good on tha hook, especially wit tha “smokin’ weed” shit!! Ooh, kick-ass wit tha 1st verse!!! Goes just as hard as dat one song I almost rated a 5.0!!! LOL @ tha 2nd verse wit tha spellin’ of “B-I-T-C-H-E-S,” lol! Tha good thing about tha faster-soundin’ beats iz dat four verses can fit inta a song, usually, when it’s about four minutes long! Tha 3rd verse iz definitely nice wit tha kick-ass rhymes!!! I think I might rate this a perfect rating!!! This has a slightly betta vibe; I like this beat more! Damn, this shit ain’t stoppin’, as tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse—or as much shit dat’s goin’ on here ‘cause I can’t keep up, at times—iz real nice!!! My Rating: 5.0

13. Seventeenth Survivors “Back Against The Wall”
Damn, anotha song by them, already?!? This iz definitely what’s up!!! Prolly one of tha 1st times I’m not complainin’ about tha same artist appearin’ back to back on a CD!!! >>> Ooh, I’m likin’ tha singin’ in tha beginning… Damn, this 1st verse iz definitely nice; y’all fit good wit tha Graveyard Soldjas? I definitely seem common luv goin’ on, here, when it comes ta tha amount of interest I have!!! Tha hook iz definitely nice; I really like tha content—y’all own tha 17th streets!!! I hope y’all are currently “survivors” in 2011!! Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty good; not as good as tha 1st verse but tha hot shit iz definitely here!! Tha 3rd verse iz pretty good, too; I think I expected some more rapi—oh, neva mind, I hear tha rapid shit near 2:50 and it’s soundin’ tight, once again!!! My Rating: 4.8

14. Playboy Sha-Burnke “All About A Dollar”
Who dis, lol? >>> I’m likin’ tha dialect in tha intro! “Thinkin’ of a master plan;” a lil’ cliché in tha beginning but let’s see what happens… “What happened fa not passin’ my gar;” somethin’ similar (a blunt) happened in a case wit me. When someone passed it incorrectly, I thought it was rude, and what happened? Tha group I was wit broke up! Bad jynx!! Should’ve passed tha blunt correctly, wit fair dignity!! I’m likin’ tha rhymes, here; sounds like tha perfect soundtrack to tha mainstream ‘90s Rap, in my opinion, wit some of these vocals. I dunno how much my interest iz stayin’ on dis but at least it’s nothin’ bad… My Rating: 4.2

15. Mystikal “I Ain’t Playin’”
LOL, ending wit Mystikal? How great iz dat?!?!? >>> You already know, dis iz definitely A+++!!!!! Gotta feel how grimy he comes through on any track!!! Oh, so dis iz where he got tha “I’ont Like You” shit from; this song, lol. For him, it’s definitely cool ta resurrect a classic ‘cause in tha 2010’s, he can come through wit classic music—anytime!!! My Rating: 4.8

Overall: Whoo!!! What a real hot compilation CD fulla tight Louisiana artists, especially tha ones I didn’t know!!!
