Review #1,692: Lil' Elt "Street Soulja"

Reviewed on 3.20.2017 (Review #1,692)

Happy 54th day in a row of reviewin’ CDs & only six more dayz till my dream comes true!! Now, I have my 2nd review for today: Lil’ Elt Street Soulja, released in 1998 on Sixx Figa Entertainment! Start Time: 3:58 PM | End Time: 4:22 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Touchdown”
>>> After a long, decent beat intro, here comes tha rappin’… Sounds like a nice lil’ track, here… Diggin’ your southern vibe in tha voice and how you handle a track like this. Can we say, “Touchdown?” Decent hook, too; nice job… My Rating: 4.0

02. “Ruff Ride” feat. Ramp
>>> Decent lil’ beginning, here, wit how you comin’ through wit it, here… Looks like a bunch of these tracks are long; I’ono… Tha hook’s pretty nice wit tha mixin’ and shit; good shit… For this collab, it ain’t bad; nice job, y’all… My Rating: 3.7

03. “Sold Up” feat. Big Tee & Duck
>>> Anotha long intro, here… Not much ta say about tha 1st verse but tha hook’s pretty energetic! “Coke & weed;” a party, here? Sounds like a dope party, ya dig? Tha rest of this shit’s southern at its finest, of course… My Rating: 3.6

04. “Let Dis Gar Save Me”
>>> A lil’ slower, here… Hearin’ what you got goin’ on and it’s not bad, here… I’m diggin’ tha slow, southern vibe, in a way… It’s kinda where tha “gar” comes into play… Tha hook ain’t too bad, here; it speaks for itself, of course… My Rating: 3.5

05. “Know Not To Play”
>>> Feelin’ tha more-upbeat vibe, here… Good job wit what you bringin’ to tha table, here, as far as tha rhymes… Tha hook’s pretty gutta, here, wit tha vibe; definitely feelin’ it! Pretty-much sounds like a No Limit-type track, here; good shit… My Rating: 3.8

06. “Get Paid”
>>> Even more upbeat, here, wit tha hook and how you comin’ through wit tha verses… Definitely sounds like somethin’ nice, here; can’t complain… Gotta luv how you bringin’ dat street content to tha table, here… My Rating: 4.1

07. “Sixx Figa”
>>> Good upbeat vibe, here… Nice job wit tha rhymes, too; you know what you doin’… Tha hook sounds like a celeb’s kinda party, here… My Rating: 3.8

½time: A 3.8-rated CD, so far… Most of tha tracks are just above tha decent level, while there’s some that are better… Definitely feelin’ tha upbeat vibes and your southern style, too…

08. “Start Some Shit”
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ interlude wit this fast-soundin’ southern beat… Almost was debatin’ on ratin’ it but I’ll rate it, since it’s a ward representation with a beat… My Rating: 3.5

09. “Street Soulja”
>>> A decent lil’ hook, here… Hearin’ tha beat and it’s pretty nice wit tha rappin’, too; good shit… My Rating: 3.7

10. “Plyywood”
>>> Sounds like a decent beat, here, fa tha south… Hearin’ tha rappin’ and it sounds good wit how you holdin’ shit down, here… Tha hook kinda catchy, here, wit this “plyywood,” ya know… My Rating: 3.6

11. “It Don’t Stop”
>>> A slower vibe, here, but I’m definitely feelin’ this hook wit tha “pass that weed to tha next nigga” shit; good job… Definitely feelin’ tha vibe you bringin’ to this track, here, as far as tha high vibes… My Rating: 3.9

12. “Another World” feat. X-AH-Cutionist
>>> A decent lil’ track, here, between tha hook, tha rhymes & tha beat… I ain’t expect tha feature to be a female; dope name, tho… She’s got tha consistent, fast-soundin’ rhymes on lock, here… My Rating: 3.8

13. “Down N Dirty” feat. Omega Supreme
>>> Diggin’ tha eerie sounds of tha beat, here… Random-soundin’ flows goin’ on, here; not too bad… My Rating: 3.6

14. “Violence” feat. A.S.P.
>>> “It ain’t ne’tin;” fasho! Kinda sounds random wit tha different vibes and sounds goin’ on, here… I think that’s trippy and this sounds like a nice lil’ track, overall… Definitely feelin’ tha collab, here; y’all got this street shit on lock, here… Tha hook definitely on a street level, here; kinda random wit how it sounds… My Rating: 3.7

Overall: Not tha best scores but betta than average, I guess? Nice lil’ production and N’awlinz-type content you brought to tha table, here…

01. The Beginning
>>> Sounds nice with these samples and this dark, bass-y beat! Nice lil’ check in from y’all, too, comin’ through, anticipatin’ tha release! My Rating: N/A

02. “Get The Gat (Remix)”
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…! A whoppin’ 7:35 on tha length!! >>> A bounce-like beat wit samples goin’ through it… I’m definitely diggin’ tha eerie sound throughout tha 1st verse, as well as these consistent rhymes! Nice job, y’all! Feelin’ tha hook wit all tha “get the gat, get the gat…” shit; nice and fast! Lol @ tha 2nd verse with tha “dick-suckin’ hoes, nut-suckin’ hoes;” crazy! Kinda long fa a joint, but it ain’t too bad ta get through… My Rating: 4.2

½time: Only one track, so far; you see da review! With that bein’ said, this a 4.2-rated tape, so far!

03. “Uptown”
Title track… >>> Beat’s nice and dark/’90s-like, as well as tha way you’re comin’ through on tha 1st verse, Elt! Lots of rhymin’, here, on tha 1st verse; where’s tha transition? Okay, here it iz, at tha 3:00 mark… Just a lil’ sample goin’ on wit tha hook, here; decent… Well, it seems like there was only one verse fa somethin’ wit 5:38 on tha length! Crazy… Just a long beat outro, here, fa tha hook/ending? My Rating: 3.8

04. “Killin’ ‘Em Hoes”
>>> Sounds like a lil’ skit in tha beginning…; kinda quiet? Hearin’ tha beat around :42 and it sounds nice with tha way tha sample sounds… Beat’s pretty nice, here; let’s see how tha rhymes go… Tha 1st verse’s pretty nice; you flowin’ nicely, Elt… Tha hook’s pretty catchy; not bad fa an ol’-skool joint… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, too… Tha 3rd verse ain’t too bad, here; keep it goin’, keep it flowin’… My Rating: 4.0

05. “You Know ‘Em When You See ‘Em”
Endin’ it wit 7:41 on tha length… >>> Tha beat kinda plain but it flows for an ending song… Tha 1st verse’s not too bad, here; gotta rhyme! Tha hook? Sounds like a lil’ interlude, here… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ decent, here…; can’t complain… I like tha shit after tha 2nd verse about tha “shmokin’;” gotta shmoke dat good!! Tha 3rd verse’s nice for tha start with “livin’ large;” gotta! And, a really-long beat outro, here…; no wonder tha long length. My Rating: 3.5

Overall: I thought this was a nice release; can’t complain… Some tracks sounded a lil’ long with a lotta long interludes/outros, but it ain’t do too bad… Of course, it was good; props for this release, y’all…

01. Intro
Startin’ dis thang off wit… >>> Tha “good dro” almost sounds like “intro,” lol; I like tha lil’ rappin’ wit tha repeatin’ and this kick-ass G-Funk sound!! My Rating: N/A

02. “Big Ballin’ With Red Rum” Feat. Big Slack, M&M Slim & T Sneed
Don’t think I eva heard these features; lookin’ forward ta seein’ what dis iz about! >>> Sounds good; I like this “Queen D” female (not sourced) in tha hook! Ooh, she’s rappin’ a lil’, soundin’ good wit tha way her vocals sound wit her delivery! Catchy anthem fa tha “Red” Rummers, lol. Tha 2nd verse sounds good; I feel like this iz a good, relaxin’-type joint dat I’m likin’. Ooh, “in my ride, gettin’ real, real high;” tight shit!! Now, some odd-soundin’ vocals like tha female’s rappin’, lol. Tha following verse sounds aight; this ain’t too bad, since it’s on a calm “tip.” Ooh, tha female came back wit tha rappin’! 05. “Spitting Buku Game” Feat. T Sneed
“Boo-Koo” iz spelled “B-U-K-U,” not tha fake way Yung Joc wanted ta spell it!! >>> Sounds like a regular, good, New Orleans-type Rap song; good collaboration wit T Sneed, once again! My Rating: 4.1

06. “Niggas From Uptown” Feat. A.S.P.

07. “Klan” Feat. Luk’ee & Face Forever
Lokee or this Luk’ee dude? Anyway, looks like anotha mega collabo—what, only 2:04 on tha length? >>> Tha beat even sounds hot; why tha short-ass length? Instantly comin’ through wit some good singin’, here; definitely inta tha whole funky sound… Prolly could’ve expected more than just singin’ but this iz still cool… My Rating: 4.3

My Rating: 4.4

11. “Hustler”

14. “Lil’ 5’ 0” Feat. Lil’ Elt & Big Slack
Iz it Lil’ Elt’s song featuring Big Slack & you ‘cause you’re last on tha feature? >>> For a 7:31-length song, this sounds like it gon be good…; it feels like a perfect life when hearin’ dis—before tha A-Tune and all dat gay-ass shit goin’ on in tha music business right now! LOL @ all tha “fuck you, Mr. Officer;” outta nowhere, this attitude’s comin’ through ta hold thangz down!! Even some nice background vocals from tha lady, at times; this iz a nice song, overall, even though I thought tha 1st dude really held it down! My Rating: 4.4

A feature? Let’s see what kinda song—or whateva—I’ll expect this time… >>> Must be a regular “outro” although a song’s playin’ in tha background… Whoever’s talkin’, here, sounds hella catchy wit tha dialect! “Ya hurd me!” Yea, some extra people comin’ through fa some shout outs!
