R.I.P. Video #47: VL Mike 2.0

Broadcasting from tha abandoned West Mountain Sanitarium in Scranton, PA... Today, April 20, 2016, marks eight years since tha murder of New Orleans rapper, Michael Allen, better known by his stage name, VL Mike. Allen was born on January 19, 1976 in New Orleans, LA. As a part of tha N.O.-based rap group, tha Chopper City Boyz, Allen & tha Chopper City Boyz released their debut album, We Got This, on February 27, 2007 on Chopper City Records & Koch Records. Tha album featured tha smash, "Make 'Em Mad", featuring B.G., which was produced by Mississippi heavyweight, David Banner. Tha album sold 27,000 copies in its first week, as it debuted @ #21 on tha Billboard Hot 200 chart, #4 on tha Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, #1 on tha Billboard Top Rap Albums chart, and #1 on tha Billboard Independent Albums chart. Shortly after tha album was released, Allen departed from Chopper City Records and went on to pursue a solo career on Executive Game Entertainment. From there, he released I'm The Truth (Da Mixtape) & Place Yo Betz in 2007. Shortly after, Allen was in talks with signing with Sony BMG & Epic Records, gettin' ready to release his debut album, It's Only One Me. However, on April 20, 2008, at around 1:00 PM, while exiting his vehicle on tha 4700 block of Miles Drive, Allen was shot multiple times by a mysterious gunman in New Orleans, where Allen later died at University Hospital. Word on tha street was that Allen's killer escaped by foot.

Shortly after his death, Allen's final-recorded verse would be released on April 24, 2008, on Baton Rouge's A-Mar & Dyl's "To The Max", with Max Minelli & VL Mike. Around tha same time, Allen's solo debut single, "Money In Here", featuring tha legendary N.O.'s Mannie Fresh, was released. In 2011, Mighty Muzik released Can't Say It 2 My Face, more unreleased material from Allen. If VL were alive today, he would've celebrated his 40th birthday on January 19, 2016, as he was only 32 years-old at tha time of his death.

Review #1,388: Bronco "Get 'Em"

Reviewed on 3.16.2014 (Review #1,388)

Got one more rap review ta go, here, and it’s East Gang Music Group in tha buildin’, once again! Got a huge amount of anticipation fa this dreadhead that I wound up lovin’ on that Under The Influence that I finally got ta hear, a few dayz ago! Here’s my review for Bronco Get ‘Em, and yea, get ‘em, Bronco!! Start Time: 5:51 PM | End Time: 6:36 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

© 2014 CD Review (Review #1,388) reviewed on 3.16.2014 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Intro – Time To Get Paid”
Hmm… >>> Oh, got dat boy Stevie Drumma on tha beat! A Biggie sample on tha hook; catchy, here… Let’s see what you got ta bring ta tha 1st verse… Catchy rhymes; I’m feelin’ what you brought to tha table, here, on tha only verse! My Rating: 4.2

02. “We Outchea”
Yeah! >>> “EGMG, bitch;” most definitely! Tha beat sounds good, here, and you start tha 1st verse off nicely: “Life iz a movie; I just give you tha lost footage;” nice! “Pants saggin’, I smell like kush;” already! Man, I gotta hang wit chu, bruh; cooler than a fan! Tha hook sounds pretty catchy, especially when it repeats tha title; dumb shit! Tha 2nd verse sounds nice; almost sounds like Prodigy from Mobb Deep! Good shit; glad you “livin’ lawless!” My Rating: 4.4

03. “I Love My City”
Fasho… >>> Beat intro sounds like I’m bein’ tickled by sounds… Good rhymes, here; not bad, overall, so far… Tha hook sounds catchy; “I love my fuckin’ city.” I can see wit New Orleans, but I don’t think I’ve eva luved where I lived—well, Long Island, NY, when I was growin’ up. But now, tha future’s Florida! Props that you get “FEMA,” while you’re spittin’ about survivin’ on tha 2nd verse, here; hope you become even more successful than today! Good shit; “real nigga shit!” My Rating: 4.2

04. “Gettin’ Mo”
>>> Nice 1st verse, here; “Arizona,” huh? Nice and hot! I like that you made anotha reference to “footage;” you already know how I roll! “Bitch couldn’t find me wit a Tom-Tom;” sounds nice, and reminds me of a Na’Tee flow! Gotta luv tha “dreadlocks!” And, tha “good weed,” ya dig? Tha hook sounds catchy wit how your voice’s in-center, as tha hook’s vocals are meant ta stand out! “Party, smoke, fuck, chill;” already! Great job wit tha 2nd verse, too; your analogies are catchy on this track! My Rating: 4.4

05. “Have A Date” Feat. Menace
>>> A decent hook, here; “50 grand in my pocket,” huh? I hope you spend some on me; my services are, like, 1,000x less! Also, props fa tha “grams of loud,” too! Hearin’ this Menace dude on tha 1st verse, and it really sounds like a Lil’ Wayne or somethin’, but I’m feelin’ his voice; almost sounds like he’s high! Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse, and it sounds nice; “eat sum turtle!” Wow… And, even referencin’ “J. Holiday” and his “Bed” joint, lol. My Rating: 4.3

06. “The Gang”
>>> Nice shit, here; consistent rhymes! Beat sounds nice ta rap on, too; ya doin’ ya thang! Not really a hook, but tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, too; you already know! My Rating: 4.1

07. “All I Know”
>>> Beat good fa you ta rap on, here; mixtape shit! Feelin’ what you bringin’ to tha table wit tha rhymes! Sounded pretty good ‘til tha hook; luvin’ tha repeatin’! Man, you got hunger in your voice, so consistently!! Tha 2nd verse’s nice, too; good shit! My Rating: 4.4

½time: You tha shit, bruh; gotta luv ya!! A 4.3 for tha CD rating; nice job for a mixtape-type beat mixtape!

08. “In A Song”
>>> Sounds like an anticipatin’ beat ta rap on; nice shit, includin’ your consistent rhymes! I like tha “deleted” shit you said/rhymed with! Tha hook’s pretty catchy, too; “you” gotta “know it’s on!” Tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice, too; gotta luv how you limit most of your songs ta two verses! My Rating: 4.1

09. “For The Minute” Feat. GG
Who’s GG? >>> Nice 1st verse from you, here; gotta feel your grind! “70125;” nice “zip!” Tha hook’s pretty catchy, too; gotta feel that you a “real nigga from tha beginning!” Nice start to tha 2nd verse from GG: “If I fuck wit you, I fuck wit you;” already! This dude sounds like he has a great future, too; hood shit at its finest!! Definitely feelin’ his mean-mug rhymes! “Y’all!!” Yeah!! My Rating: 4.4

10. “Can I Live” Feat. The Show
A newer joint, here… >>> Oh no, lol, “Hey, this tha best kept secret!” Beat sounds nice ta rap on, and it sounds laidback; good shit fa what you spittin’ ‘bout! Yea, you definitely gon “live” long! Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and tha rhymes sound good outta your mouth… “Pay 85 fa tha twist up;” you got royal hair! Tha 2nd hook’s pretty long, here… Here comes The Show at 2:38, comin’ through wit fast rhymes; this iz tight, right chea! Consistency at its finest; gotta feel his fast-paced fastness! Great shit from him, and surprisingly, even though this joint’s 4:41, there was only two verses! Kinda on tha long side, but still pays off! My Rating: 4.2

11. “Crazy”
Yeah! >>> Beat’s nice fa you ta rap on; good job wit tha 1st verse, here, and tha hook’s pretty catchy for tha undaground. Reminds me of some nice, East Coast-soundin’ shit that only stays in tha undaground. Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, either; I can dig it… My Rating: 4.0

12. “That’s G”
Yup! >>> Beat sounds nice, from what you picked… “Neva looked up ta no dude;” I feel ya, since I’m autistic! Autistically, I can’t look up ta anyone but myself, since no one in this music game can relate! I’m diggin’ tha hook…(hook)…and how you…(you)…deliver it…(it)! A different dude on tha 2nd verse? Sounds like that Menace/Lil’ Wayne-like dude… Catchy shit, too; “put tha pedal to tha metal…” My Rating: 4.2

13. “Murder District” Feat. The Show & John Doe
Looks like a good collab… >>> Beat sounds nice, here; almost sounds like somethin’ 50 Cent would rap on… Catchy hook, here; crazy “murder district!” If y’all can handle that, y’all should join me ta tha Kings Park Psychiatric Center; you already know that I luv that place (it’s abandoned)! Here’s you on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit some good rhymes; props fa describin’ this “district!” You’re just like me wit Kings Park: You “go ham in it;” you already know! Abandoned buildings fa president! We got Show on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some good rhymes; gotta “stay” alert and “stay on ya toes!” Nice flow, and tha rhymes neva quit! We got a 3rd verse on this CD, and it’s from this John Doe dude; let’s see if his one-dimensional name’s worth—oh, I think I remember him, from Alex McConduit’s Crescent City Radio show, back in 2008! He sounds good on this verse; nice, street shit, at its finest! “Have you missin’ like milk cartons;” wow… My Rating: 4.2

14. “Nowadays”
>>> Beat sounds catchy ta rap on, here… Tha 1st verse’s pretty catchy on this beat. Why are you so fuckin’ awesome?! Like, consistently?! You neva stop makin’ catchy music, no matta what it sounds like!! Great, continuous rhymes; keep it goin’!! And yea, “this ain’t no auto-tune;” I wish brainwashed people would wake up! Who wants to have a dick in their mouth, masturbatin’ in anotha dude’s ear, smh? Sounds like this iz just one verse, here; pretty nice and consistent, still! I like dat “got my mental GPS set” line! Good shit!! My Rating: 4.3

Overall: Wow, anotha great CD from you!! Most of ‘em were good bangerz; nothin’ hit over tha 4.6 mark, but you kept it consistent wit your vibe! Good shit; you know I fucks wit ya! I gon call you up right after I eat some dinner, right quick! Lookin’ real forward ta choppin’ it up wit cha!

01. Mannie Fresh Speaks
Nice to have him on your intro! >>> Mannie talkin’ nice about “Show,” here; at least his “lyrical” shit’s catchy… Over tha “And Then What” beat; nice beginning. My Rating: N/A

02. “Bloody Roses (Intro)”
Black Metaphor on tha beat; here we go! >>> Not really anticipatin’ tha pitched female sample on tha beginning… I dunno how much this’ll hold up, but let’s see… Okay, so I guess Don Flamingo = The Show? Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and it’s Show, comin’ through wit good, consistent rhymes; I feel ‘em, and it’s not too bad wit this sample, in tha background… At least tha beat’s a lil’ betta… Wow @ “sellin’ heroin;” a sick Show! It was just a consistent verse, this whole time; good job, includin’ tha “scenic view” shit and all that. Though tha sample threw me off, this wasn’t that bad, overall. My Rating: 3.8

03. “Slanguage”
Dee-1in’ it wit Flight School Productions on tha beat, here… >>> Sounds like a familiar beat wit tha “biatch” (Too $hort-like) background sample, in tha beginning… Hearin’ you rappin’ on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you’re havin’ fun wit tha flow (“oven” / “dozen”)! Nice that you holdin’ a “40-inch torch;” already, Show! Great rhymes, but beat’s way too plain. Tha hook’s quick; passes through nicely, I guess… Tha 2nd verse’s pretty consistent; you neva stop rappin’! Glad you keepin’ it goin’; nice job! My Rating: 4.1

04. “Lose It All”
Kidd On The Track beat; not sure what to expect… >>> Beat’s nice and smooth, as well as your consistent rhymes. I feel ya wit tha “put family 2nd,” at times. Sometimes, you can’t escape tha grind. You even have “kids,” now? Well, I guess you’re not a 20-year-old dad. Hmm, a “Dead Presidents” hint in tha beat sample; kinda throws me off, but at least it was short, and you’re keepin’ these consistent rhymes goin’! Nice job wit these non-stop verses! My Rating: 4.2

05. “Family Tree”
Kidd On The Track, again; hmm… >>> Not sure what to expect wit tha soulful-soundin’ beat start… Bad beat tag that caught a masturbatin’-in-anotha-dude’s-ear syndrome of a-tune, smh! Hope he don’t use that beat tag again!! Luckily, your rhymes can recover from that annoyance! I like how tha beat stops, at times, during tha 1:00 – 1:10 mark! Tha hook’s pretty nice, too; I’m feelin’ what you got goin’ on, here. Tha 2nd verse sounds important, too; good job… My Rating: 3.9

06. “My Lil’ Nigga E”
No producer listed; jacked beat? >>> Luvin’ all tha “ya heard me” shit from E; he ain’t dead, right? I mean, judgin’ from tha intro of him, it sounds like this a tribute or somethin’? Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you’re tellin’ a story about him; a lot of it’s in tha past tense, so I’m hopin’ I don’t hear that he died… :( Good shit on tha 1st verse, as you’re consistently tellin’ this story ova this nice, street beat… Tha 2nd verse’s nice, too; keep this comin’… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse, and it’s more in tha current times; he even “havin’ a baby,” soon, too? And, “two baby mamas”? I dunno about that; that sounds like a lack of focus in a rap career. I’ve seen so many fall off ‘cause of that, mainly financially! My Rating: 3.8

½time: So far, nice; prolly could be a lil’ catchier wit tha jointz, but your rhymes be holdin’ it down! A 4.0 for tha CD rating, currently!

07. “Alright Ok”
Kidd On The Track on tha beat, here… >>> A lil’ different from you…; decent, but tha “money” shit throws me off. I’ve been robbed twice, so I can’t deal wit this shit… Lemme hear what you got on tha 1st verse, here… Sounds decent; I fucks wit it… Tha 2nd verse iz pretty nice, too; I can dig it… LOL, it’s dyin’ at 2:51? Completely slowed down; “aww, fuck! My nigga, I’m fucked up;” interestin’… My Rating: 3.9

08. “Smokin’ My Kool 2”
SIAH-produced track, here; lookin’ forward ta this kinda title! >>> Sounds good, so far, ova this okay beat; interestin’ trip wit The Show! My Rating: 4.1

09. “If I Should Die”
Flawless Tracks beat… >>> Halloween-like beat style? I’m likin’ it; very interestin’! A mysterious voice on tha hook? Or, a sample? Feelin’ your rhymes ova this beat; nice shit! Bleh, tha hook’s cliché/quoted, but it still sounds good. My Rating: 4.3

10. “The Cool”
Looks Lupe Fiasco-ish wit tha title, but SIAH on tha beat, so let’s see what we got, 504 style… >>> Almost sounds like him, at times… Sounds pretty good wit this kinda story. Good shit fa tha streetz; I’m feelin’ it, a lil’. My Rating: 3.7

11. “God Bless America”
Cash Jordan on tha track; let’s see what we got! >>> Sounds more upbeat for tha streetz, here; good job wit tha 1st verse. Tha hook sounds catchy, too, wit this USA shit… Tha 2nd verse iz nice, too, as you have “no fear;” that’s what it iz! SMH @ Obama on tha 2nd hook; gay. At least you picked it up! You continue wit tha 3rd verse, too; nice! My Rating: 4.2

12. “Bloody Roses (Outro)”
SmurfGotBeats beat; gimme an ending, here… >>> Rappin’, here, on this outro; nice, includin’ how you comin’ through wit tha nice rhymes ova this beat! “Eat tha beats up;” only thang you can do, Show! Consistent rhymes; good shit, Show! Nice how you ended it with, “ya dig?!” And, good outro from Fresh, and yea, hope you “buy [your] mama a big house!” My Rating: 4.4

Overall: I thought that was a pretty nice CD, despite a lil’ bit of a lack of catchiness, here and there. Either way, nowhere near wack; good job! Keep doin’ ya thang! Tha stories were nice to hear; I’m sure you got more on tha way! I finna review your boy, Bronco, so let’s see what gon happen wit him…

Review #1,381: Bronco & The Show "Under The Influence"

Reviewed on 3.12.2014 (Review #1,381)

A few reviewz I finna do, right now. Catchin’ up on some music I might’ve missed, before I get into some newer shit. This 1st one iz from EGMG, and it’s Bronco & The Show Under The Influence. I was tagged in this pic on Facebook back two years ago, but I dunno how I missed it? Maybe, because tha artwork was older than tha release date, by a few months, they might’ve updated tha pic with a link, and I didn’t see it? That’s my guess, but here goes my listen, right now! Start Time: 11:10 AM | End Time: 12:02 PM

© 2014 CD Review (Review #1,381) reviewed on 3.12.2014 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. Roll Up (Intro)
>>> Really likin’ tha beat, here; nice production! Just a, “You are now under tha influence,” for tha words? Nice how you let tha beat just play! My Rating: N/A

02. “Gladiator”
>>> Anotha nice, long beat intro, here; feelin’ tha production! “Uh,” here’s The Show on tha 1st verse, comin’ through nicely and consistently ova this nice, pure-soundin’ beat! “Uh,” I feel like I wanna travel, hopefully soon! You sound nice on tha hook, too, strictly wit your “bitch,” however good that may feel! Here’s tha 2nd verse… Bronco, here, comin’ through wit some travelin’-like rhymes wit tha “LA” and shit—“LA” not in Louisiana, right, lol? “I’m a hour ahead: Georgia time;” or, Long Island/Pennsylvania time like me, lol. My Rating: 4.3

03. “LifeStyle” Feat. Bruce Lee
>>> Sounds like a nice collaboration—a tri-collaboration, I should say. Tha beat’s on some nice, East Coast-soundin’ shit, though I’m not really a fan of East Coast shit, especially with Louisiana artists rappin’. I’m really feelin’ tha conversation-like rhymes from tha three of y’all! Nice parts wit rollin’ “up” and shit; good shit! And, from 1:05 – 1:09, I’m diggin’ all those “bruh” parts; southern shit! Really-great job wit tha 1st verse!! Tha hook’s pretty nice; definitely diggin’ this wit all tha shit y’all on; y’all under tha influence, just like tha name of this CD! Keepin’ this shit goin’ on tha 2nd verse; good shit! LOL @ slowin’ tha “car down” ‘cause of “skirts” and “ass!” And, Show “passin’ blunts” at 2:39; gotta luv it! Hope one day, I get to meet y’all and maybe, have one of these “lifestyle” moments wit y’all!! Wit a joint so great like this, there’s a 3rd verse; real glad this iz long!! Got nice drugs and hoes “bendin’ ova” and shit; nice! Nice job wit tha 3rd verse, overall, too! Damn, I really love this joint; y’all tore it up as far as tha conversation-like flow!! My Rating: 4.8 (lol @ tha super-positive rating!)

04. “Faded Too Long” Feat. Bruce Lee
Ooh @ tha title… >>> Nice beat and start to tha 1st verse wit, “Woke up, feelin’ like last night;” good shit! In tha middle of tha bed wit a mysterious “chick.” Nice job wit this 1st verse! “High as a Southwest pilot;” oh, I wanna fly again!! Can’t believe it’s been two years! Last year was pure shit, as I put all my focus and risked $1,524 (with still waiting on my remaining $400) on a fuckin’ artist who brainwashed me with their money/drug lyrics, when they ain’t really ‘bout dat! WTF?! Either way, nice hook; good shit, once again!! Tha 2nd verse sounds great; I’m really diggin’ this “dirty room,” I’ll call it. Man, I’d luv ta hang wit y’all, one day!! Who needs a shower? I shower every three dayz if I don’t go anywhere and work on shit at my house, ya feel me? And, what? Nice job wit tha 2nd verse, too! Glad ta be “faded” fa “too long!” Here we go wit Show on tha 3rd verse, wit “a half of Xanex in [his] pocket;” y’all must wake up tha best!! Y’all need ta make y’all way up here, ta me! Who knows when tha Kings Park Psychiatric Center gon be bulldozed; y’all gotta see it/do videoz in it! Consistent rhymes from Show, once again; really diggin’ that they have to do wit gettin’ fucked up! And yea, “legal limit iz not in my vocabulary;” true dat, true dat!! My Rating: 4.6 (anotha really-high rating; y’all got me excited when I hear y’all rhyme on this CD!!)

05. “SideWays”
>>> Startin’ off wit The Show on tha intro, “heavily influenced by G-shit;” you already know! I am, with my rap style; I rap like I was in tha ‘90s or somethin’. A lotta that ‘90s Louisiana rap’s really helped me; I would say that’s my main influence. Anyway, here’s Show on tha 1st verse, too, comin’ through wit some good rhymes; can’t deny tha lifestyle he talkin’ ‘bout, here! “Mary Jane,” all right! Tha hook’s pretty nice wit this nice “bitch” / “shit” [tha car] bein’ “sideways!” Too bad I’ll just have to deal wit my 1994, old, Jeep Cherokee… Anyway, here’s dat boy, Bronco, on tha 2nd verse. Pretty good street/hood shit, here; beat tha “judge” and his dumb-ass rules, bruh! Hope I get ta chop it up wit Bronco, one day! Nice shit, on this “sideways” anthem! Two nice verses here; gotta luv it! My Rating: 4.4

06. “Feelin’ Like”
>>> Beat start sounds pretty nice; sounds like we’re under a sewer or somethin’, in tha dark! Think: Kings Park and their tunnels, though I dunno if I’d eva get into a tunnel, due to asbestos, and while climbing back up from tha tunnel, you’re up, like, 30 feet in tha air, transferring from tha ladder to tha foreground (I have a fear of heights). Anyway, good shit on tha 1st verse, Show; consistent rhymes, especially around 1:01! Such a questionable future in “tha life of tha Crescent,” right? Glad you’ve been around fa a while, now (29 years? Just a guess)! Tha hook’s nice from Bronco; I gotta start not trustin’! My heart too big fa this shady music biz! Anyway, here’s Bronco on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit good shit on this beat! “This ain’t no fake shit;” glad he expressin’ tha real “shit!” Speakin’ of “no fake shit,” I hope I can make some bucks off of him, soon, if he claim he “real!” Nice rhymes, Bronco; fuck wit me! Nice beat ending wit tha last 15 seconds; grimy shit!! My Rating: 4.4

07. “Remember Me”
>>> A catchy hook; sounds like a hood feel wit tha way Bronco delivered tha hook! Tha 1st verse from him sounds good! No way he “finna leave;” he stayin’ right chea!! Nice job wit tha verse, bruh; good shit! Great start to tha 2nd verse from Show, comin’ through wit tha perspective of his “patna”: “He tryna roll his weed up, duckin’;” I feel ya! Since I’m autistic, I sometimes duck, but I usually smoke when I’m in areas of no fear of feds! Great consistency toward tha near-end of tha verse, Show! Good shit, here! My Rating: 4.0

½time: Wow, fa a New Orleans, lyrical-like set of artists, I’m definitely feelin’ this release a whole lot!! Great job, y’all!! Y’all beasts wit tha deliveries, lyrics, and have a great ear for beats, this time!! Currently, y’all at a 4.4 for tha CD rating!!

08. Smoke Break (Interlude)
>>> “You are now under tha influence,” once again, ova this nice-soundin’ beat! My Rating: N/A

09. “Vicious” Feat. Dee Low of Monsta Beatz
Let’s see this collab! >>> Ooh, diggin’ tha beat, here! Almost reminded me of YG Hootie—oh wait, it iz? Didn’t think this was originally from 2012, since Music Choice Rap got that song (YG Hootie & Kendrick Lamar “Two Presidents”) a whole year after y’all released this! I’ll review it like I neva heard tha beat before, and it sounds great wit y’all on it! A quick-rappin’ Show on tha 1st verse, here, “baby!” Lots of consistent rhymes!! Shout out ta “East Gang” [Music Group]! Hearin’ tha hook now, and it sounds a lil’ different from tha other song’s hook… Their hook was catchier, but this iz nice, too, wit tha “Champagne in my cup.” Got my boy, Bronco, on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit consistent rhymes, just like Show. A lil’ slower-delivered than Show, but it’s nice! “I ain’t really wit tha back-and-forth shit;” that’s how niggaz been actin’, lately, when it comes ta bein’ on my mixtape compilations. It’s like, why I gotta deal wit a Merry-Go-Round when it comes ta gettin’ a song and $20? Seriously? I can prolly earn that in an hour or two when I get a job, soon, and it’ll prolly be fun—more fun than waitin’ for people! My Rating: 4.3

10. “Party, Smoke, Fuck, Chill”
! >>> This sounds like anotha familiar beat, too, but I prolly gon enjoy this one, once again! Nice, unexpected start from Bronco on tha 1st verse (I almost expected Show, so it surprised me)! Gotta luv y’all—black people always get my focus, 24/7! I hate how there’s, like, barely any up here, no matter where I’m at. :( Of course, I’d luv—and, I’m stressin’ out tha word “luv”—luv ta “party, smoke,” and “chill” wit dat boy, Bronco!! Wow @ tha hook; luv tha “dawg” parts, as well as this “party” y’all havin’!! Nice job wit tha 2nd ½ of tha hook; made way to, again, a year after y’all released this, as “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” came out, lol! Here’s Show on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some consistent deliveries; nice job!! “I just signed me a deal;” gotta always stay undaground, though. I hate when artists think their cockier and bigger, gettin’ evasive and shit; that shit’s fuckin’ lame! Thought there’d be room fa a 3rd verse, but this iz still nice; tha hook repeats! My Rating: 4.5

11. “24-26-29”
Looks like ages… Well, I’m almost “26;” will be dat in three months! >>> Must be breast sizes? I knew it; I thought they were in tha 30’s? Either way, nice job wit tha 1st verse, Show; I’m diggin’ it. Tha hook sounds a lil’ mainstream wit y’all’s voices a lil’ on vocoders, but tha beat and how y’all deliver it makes it sound pretty nice! Got Bronco on tha 2nd verse, wit an “ass” on him; who wouldn’t put a fat “ass” on him? I hear him braggin’ ‘bout his “money long,” so hopefully, we’ll do good business! Wow, short verses; guess tha 2:36-length song gets three verses, and tha previous song gets two, lol? Yup, Show’s comin’ through on tha 3rd verse, waitin’ for “one of Cupid’s arrows;” good shit! Now, Bronco joins Show on tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse, almost soundin’ like a bridge wit just wantin’ a “cake;” I’m diggin’ this one, right chea! Y’all took a risk wit tha near-auto-tune sound, but I’m likin’ it! I also liked that parts were not long, so there were more parts to check out, instead of, say, 16-bar verses. My Rating: 4.2

12. “That’s How It Is” Feat. Bruce Lee
>>> Nice beat y’all chose, here; this sounds good on tha 1st verse. I don’t mind it, here; reminds me of tha 2007 – 2008 dayz wit these kinda songs/rhymes! Definitely feels nostalgic hearin’ this, oddly! Catchy hook, too; simple, but “that’s how it iz!” Here’s tha 2nd verse, and it sounds good; I like those “on a nigga” parts! It’s consistent when you keep sayin’ it! Show on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through, always in a “whip,” lol. Good rhymes; always sounds like a lotta fun wit Show! Neva age, boy!! I hope you still like this by 40—wait, 40’s old? Naw, I rather you still be like this when you’re 60, Show!! Bronco, by 80!! LOL, real nigga shit!! My Rating: 4.1

13. “Million $ Tears”
>>> Not bad wit tha start, here, from Show, comin’ through wit tha 1st verse, right away… Tha beat’s startin’ ta sound pretty nice, and tha rhymes are becomin’ consistent; keep ‘em comin’, Show! No room fa “tears,” here; glad it ain’t depressing wit its sound! Nice hook from Show, too! “Wake up and light my weed;” already! Got my boy, Bronco, on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit a lotta “money” rhymes, fa tha start. Not bad, but I expect ta do good business wit you, especially since I’m passionate about this music, right now! Good verse; I dig it! I know y’all got some “daed” folks, but really, at almost 26, I still haven’t lost anybody outside tha family, that I knew! Lucky? My Rating: 4.0

14. “Strong Drink”
>>> That beat start’s got me excited; oh, I love this undaground shit, at times! Bronco on tha hook, comin’ through like a street soulja, like Sporty-T! Feelin’ his depression, how he needs “a strong drink!” I deal wit so much shit, but (luckily?) I don’t have access to many drugs, and barely see weed. Got The Show on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit a remedy, wit tha drugs; I feel ya! Good job expressin’ your pain, Show! Hope this a remedy, too (I know it iz)! My boy on tha 2nd verse, here, and Bronco’s comin’ through wit dat “smoke,” as well as “tryna live long enough ta see [his] dreads grow;” that’s what’s up! I hate when niggaz get rid of their dreads. It’s like, it’s a symbolic image, in my opinion; I luv dreadheads and people wit cornrow-like hair! Good shit, though, bruh; I’m definitely diggin’ what you comin’ through wit! Seemed like this was a real-short joint; three minutes of pure, problem-recovery music, right chea! My Rating: 4.4

15. Ash Out (Outro)
>>> Anotha nice beat! No “Under The Influence” announcement, this time? I guess ‘cause it’s over? My Rating: N/A

Overall: OMG, should I bust a nut or somethin’, lol? This CD got me excited to embrace Louisiana culture again, it seems like? Maybe, I should just drift away from Baton Rouge and focus on New Orleans? I’m sure Show would’ve neva seen himself get a five-star review from FTLD, huh? I would’ve neva planned it, either, when I first heard him almost six years ago! Well, Show, congrats, as well as Bronco, too!! Keep up tha great work, y’all! Fuck wit ya boy!!

Review #1,355: Mannie Fresh "Return Of The Ballin'"

Reviewed on 12.09.2013 (Review #1,355)

Next up, I have a 2009 CD from Mannie Fresh I finna review, that I ain’t know about. With tha Big Kanaka & MoDo LLC label this time, here’s my review for Mannie’s Return Of The Ballin’! Start Time: 11:59 AM | End Time: 12:46 PM

© 2013 CD Review (Review #1,355) reviewed on 12.09.2013 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Like A Boss” Feat. The Show
>>> Sounds good, here; tha cool vibes of Mannie Fresh, once again! Tha 1st verse sounds good; you livin’ it up! Almost sounds like there’s background vocals from The Show in tha background of tha hook; I gon put him in tha feature! Nice job wit tha 2nd verse, too; strictly feelin’ good! Tha 3rd verse iz here, and it sounds like you’re always livin’ dat good “life!” My Rating: 4.2

02. “American Dream” Feat. The Show
Lookin’ forward ta hearin’ this collab! >>> Nice start from Show!! Great hook, feelin’ like tha “American dream!” Good shit on tha 1st verse, Show! Ooh, anotha verse from Show? That great voice ta make you feel good on tha track! Here you are, also, Fresh, comin’ through wit some nice shit, too! Good shit from tha both of y’all comin’ outta tha 3rd verse, too; consistency, here!! I like how Show comes through with, “Smell that? I’m so on my shit, nigga!” Dumb shit!! Long beat outro ta end this off, too! My Rating: 4.5

03. “Drought” Feat. Rick Ross
“Drought” iz right, as far as tha feature goes! >>> Wow, came outta nowhere!!! Really feelin’ tha Lil’ Jon “drought!!! Drought!!!” shit in tha background!! Also, feelin’ tha “we got dat Lindsay Lohan down south” shit in tha hook, too, Fresh!! Wow, this definitely hot!!! Rick Ross on tha 1st verse… Completely ignorin’ what he sayin’, since I can’t believe him. At least there’s no a-tune on his vocals! Fuck, anotha Rick Ross verse? Damn, this startin’ ta get worse fa me… Finally, you on tha 3rd verse; feelin’ your “fuck goin’ ta college” perspective, though I have a Master’s Degree! Loans are such a backlash; at least you can afford it! My Rating: 4.4 (would’ve been near a 4.9 if Ross wasn’t on here)

04. “I Smell Like Money” Feat. Swagg Starz & The Show
Not really anticipatin’ this title, or this Swagg Starz feature. Then again, this was years before I got robbed ½ a stack, so I don’t think I’ll mind this too much? >>> This ain’t too bad; I can feel tha vibe on tha hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse; not really into tha “money out tha ass” line. There was a line I heard tha year before: “I got money out tha asshole,” and unfortunately, that “money” was only $40 I earned, this year. Definitely not no “asshole”-worth! Tha 2nd verse sounds okay, so far; comin’ “out tha mud,” here. Tha 3rd verse iz The Show, and his rhymes/delivery’s catchy, here… My Rating: 4.0

05. “Get With Me” Feat. Russell Lee & The Show
>>> Nice vibe, here! Wow, you was takin’ “a Molly” in ’09? Nice and early, like tha late Sheen~Marie! Tha hook ain’t too bad, overall, and hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, it sounds aight… Tha hook almost sounds like it has Trina in it, too… The Show’s on tha 2nd verse, wipin’ his “ass” wit “paper” and shit; nice rhymes! You could’ve sworn that ass-wipin’ line woulda been in tha previous joint. Thought there’d be anotha verse, but it’s anotha long beat outro… My Rating: 4.2

06. “Go Girl”
>>> Sounds like a typical song of yours, in a great way; jammin’! Nice job wit tha 1st verse, beat, and warped vocals, at times! Tha hook’s simple, but jammin’, once again! Too bad this “girl” doin’ some gay dances (“‘Ricky Bobby’, ‘Stanky Legg’,” and more)… Either way, nice job wit tha verse, again! Tha 3rd verse sounds nice, too! Those warped-like vocals sound catchy; I’m likin’ ‘em!! Yea: “This that classics right here!” My Rating: 4.5

½time: So far, real good!! You have a 4.3 for tha CD rating, currently; all tha jamz are on-n-poppin’!! Keep up tha great productions and party-like anthems!!

07. “Already” Feat. Russell Lee
>>> Sounds good, so far… Tha 1st verse sounds like you gettin’ your groove on in tha club, wit many people who encounter you! Tha hook’s cool and simple; “already!” Tha 2nd verse’s nice, too… Ooh, Russell snuck inta tha 3rd verse, here, wit a rap-sung verse! Nice! My Rating: 4.2

08. “Feignin’” Feat. Swagg Starz
>>> Wasn’t sure how I was gon feel about tha start, but it sounds good wit tha beat, here… I thought it was The Show on tha 1st verse, but it’s a part of tha Swagg Starz. Rhymes ain’t bad, but that beat continues ta become more and more interesting! Tha hook sounds good, too; catchiness! Wow, just luvin’ tha vibe of tha beat!!! #newadventures Great shit, here!! 09. “Strip Tease” Feat. Russell Lee & Swagg Starz
>>> Kinda sounds a lil’ too soft, here, fa me… Tha 1st verse iz on an R&B-version-of-Max Minelli-like vibe; it’s okay, but may make me wanna fall asleep! Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, either… My Rating: 3.1

10. “Let’s Ride/Watch” Feat. Russell Lee
>>> Finally, back ta bein’ awake! Catchy hook fa it bein’ a “Friday”-like party, ova this jammin’/positive beat. Tha 1st verse iz Russell Lee, singin’ some shit on this jam… Tha 2nd verse iz Russell, too? Not bad; I guess it’s more of Russell’s song, here… My Rating: 3.6

11. “Ladies” Feat. Russell Lee & S.O.L.E. Fresh
>>> Feelin’ tha positive vibe, here; nice beat!! Tha hook sounds nice; lol, “private parts!” More Russell Lee comin’ at cha wit tha 1st verse, here; not bad… Catchy rhymes wit tha S.O.L.E. Fresh person, too! Who could this be on tha 2nd verse? Could be either or, on tha feature; I’m confused…? Either way, nice deep voice… Now, here you are, comin’ through wit catchy rhymes on this track. My Rating: 3.7

12. “Can I Live” Feat. Russell Lee & The Show
This CD’s turnin’ a lil’ too R&B fa me. Let’s see how we can end it off… >>> Beat sounds real nice, once again… Tha hook’s Russell Lee, comin’ through wit not-bad singin’, once again. LOL @ him: “I smoke my weed;” nice! Well, I gave feedback on tha 1st verse, without me knowin’. Hearin’ tha actual hook now, and it sounds catchier! Now, we got The Show on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through with good shit over those cymbals clashing!! That was nice for tha pre-verse!! Good job wit tha 2nd verse, here, Show!! Consistent rhymes!! Ooh, anotha Show verse fa tha 3rd verse! Now, that’s “Christmas,” as far as a gift! Wow, “swine flu;” I forgot that was an ’09 thing. Damn, that seems so long ago! Great shit; Mannie Freshless, lol? My Rating: 4.2

Overall: Other than tha full R&B vibe, I was definitely diggin’ this CD! Prolly could’ve also minused Ricky off tha “Drought” song, but other than that, this was hot! Glad you still got it in you; keep it up!! No aging yet, Fresh!!
