Review #1,491: Yola No Soda "Yola No Soda"

Reviewed on 1.26.2016 (Review #1,491)

Not in tha mood at all to be reviewin’ at a busy time like this, but I must get some shit off my chest and throw some people under tha bus, right now! This next review iz Yola No Soda Yola No Soda, released on 99 Wayz 2 Grind Entertainment. FYI, Yola No Soda iz from Gardere Lane a.k.a. G-Lane, formerly known as Yung Yola. Back in 2009, way before I would write Percy Keith, I was writin’ Yola in jail once a month. I thought this was one of my favorite rappers, etc., someone who made me President of their label on July 18, 2009, gave me their MySpace login info and more. However, in 2011, when I tried to interview him for my radio show, from jail, as an exclusive, my value started takin’ turns as he would text me but not answer, at times. Then, I caught him on Facebook a few times without gettin’ a hold of me, and it started gettin’ to me. We reconnected in 2013 and things seemed okay. Then, in 2015, when my brother died, my magazine article got released & more, he started not really payin’ too much attention to me. I would post and he wouldn’t really acknowledge tha posts that much… Much to my surprise, just yesterday, I went to go send him my latest music video and I didn’t realize I already sent it. I stumbled across this CD on DatPiff and lil’ did I know, tha CD’s almost two months old! It’s like, damn, not even sent to me? So, I aired him out on Facebook & Instagram that I should come first when it comes to sendin’ new music to! What fuckin’ President am I to not get your music? And so, he got up in his feelings, deleted me, and that was tha end of him! So, with that bein’ said, why tha hell am I reviewin’ this right now? Well, I just wanna get it off my lap but also, who wants to go to work tomorrow for fuckin’ Margaret? Tuesday nights, I try to stay up later ‘cause she comes back to work and tha drama begins again! But yeah, peep out this post of me airin’ out Yola:

So yeah, who’s worse? Yola or Margaret? I have no idea, but at least I get paid for dealin’ with Margaret! It gon be a yucky transition to tomorrow, but best believe, I’m goin’ to NY on Friday!!! Start Time: 10:18 PM | End Time: 11:20 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

© 2016 CD Review (Review #1,491) reviewed on 1.26.2016 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Thank U 4”
>>> Okay, just so you know, reviewin’ this may be nice. However, once this review iz over, so iz my interest in this! Gonna completely forget about it when it ends, like it neva existed!! As far as this, a lil’ catchy with what you “thank,” but since you don’t even “thank” me fa nothin’, I can say, “Fuck this!!” Beat an online beat and it ain’t even Louisiana/southern!! Like, “I get a lotta it,” when it comes ta money? Ugh, check this what I sent you…
I neva got a fuckin’ penny from you; we neva did any busines!!! My Rating: 3.6

02. “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” feat. K.Beezy
Neva heard of tha featured dude… >>> A repetitive hook with a dry, typical-soundin’ “trappin’” beat, here… Ugh, what’s with you with tha bullshit “money” rhymes??? “Did five years?” No, you did four, smh! It was March 2009 – August 19, 2013; you don’t remember, smh? “I should’ve went ta college;” prolly! You go and ditch some1 like me who has a Master’s Degree fa what? And, quit tha bullshit money rhymes; shit makes me wanna throw tha fuck up!! Neva heard of this K.Beezy dude on tha 2nd verse and it just sounds like a regular rapper rappin’ fast… It’s like, how’d you find this dude? What am I, then? A piece of F.U.C.K.I.N.’ shit!!! My Rating: 3.5

03. “#WhatDaFukANiggaMean”
I assume tha title’s all together like that? Produced by you. >>> Sounds like your old music… Too bad I can’t take this serious, anymore… Hook sounds pretty nice ova this beat; can’t complain… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like those good ol’ times of tha 99 Wayz 2 Grind dayz… Still can’t believe you don’t fuck wit me, no mo; like, what’s wrong with you?! Tha 2nd verse sounds nice, too; just know that it’s in one ear and out tha other, though! My Rating: 4.2

04. “All Types Of Games”
That’s exactly what you’re playin’ with me, right?! >>> Was that $hop With Ken’s beat tag in tha beginning? Wonder how this collab came about, or did you just steal tha beat from online, since you didn’t credit tha producer on tha filename? Either way, for a guilty pleasure feeling, I’m really feelin’ this beat and your attempt of singin’ on tha hook? I’m definitely diggin’ it! Let’s pretend you still fuck wit me for tha next hour, like nothin’ went wrong…………………………………, smh! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s nice ova this beat! Makes me think of when I used ta be so obsessed with all that Louisiana music! Too bad it really ain’t do anything fa me, though; waste of so many years! So behind in so much shit ‘cause of that shit and now that I’m older, it’s so hard to keep up with everything!! Diggin’ all tha “weed” shit on tha 2nd verse, especially how you expect them to “give a refund” when it comes to that shit that “doesn’t give you a buzz.” Thank God I get NY shit that’s fiya; I’ve always wanted quality and I got it!! My Rating: 4.7 (what a generous DICK I am!!!)

05. “Keep Ya Head Up”
>>> Beat sounds nice, here; good shit! Too bad all these artists pop out “kids” and are required to put them above my promotion skillz, smh! It’s like, should’ve took your time with tha “kids,” smh! Still, a nice hook and nice 1st verse, here… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ pretty nice, too; can’t complain, overall… I just hate that you rappin’ ‘bout all this shit about “24k” and you can’t even do any services with me, smh! My Rating: 4.1

06. “Ain’t Playing”
>>> What? The Beat Plug’s tha producer? Fuckin’ Percy Keith producer!! Whether he got it from online or not, still, it’s all about him, not you!! Tha hook’s really repetitive but kinda addictin’? Whateva… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s kinda like typical rap music, like, not carin’ about others, smh. Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, here, or iz it? I’m just givin’ it credit so I don’t say, “It’s wack!” My Rating: 3.8

07. “O.G. Blowin’ On Da O.G.”
Thank God I’m not “blowin’ on [no] OG” ta this CD! If you would’ve been real, I would’ve luved to review this CD high, but nooooooooooooooooooooo way in fuckin’ hell are you gettin’ that bonus from me!!! >>> Of course, I figured I’d like this smooth vibe with tha kush-type hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s only aight fa me… Kinda sounds like you’re randomly spittin’ random shit, here, aside from tha “O.G.!” Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, here, though I thought I’d be more impressed… I expected some inhalin’/exhalin’, some more weed rhymes, but it’s just a bunch of randomness… My Rating: 4.3

08. “Dumb” feat. Orange Juice Jones
Oh, so not lookin’ forward to tha feature!! What tha hell, iz this gon be a sample of an old song?! >>> Completely mistaken with tha feature, here, but that’s ‘cause I wasn’t interested, in tha first place… Beat sounds like some Q-Red shit and as it’s in one ear and out tha other, I’ll say that this bitch jammin’… Hearin’ this OJJ on tha 1st verse and he’s bringin’ back that classic 225, jiggaz-type shit, here; good job! No bullshit money rhymes; see! There’s life without “money” rhymes!! Good shit from you on tha 2nd verse till you said, “Dat nigga Yola gotta always show his cash,” like, what “cash,” lol? None eva went in my pocket!!! My Rating: 4.4

09. “Living Like Pac”
>>> Nothin’ interestin’ in tha boring beat, here, but tha rhymes are nice ta hear from you… Still, a lil’ random, but I can tolerate it…, just for this hour! “Nigga, I’m 100;” no, you’re nowhere-near!!! Comin’ at me like you did, not makin’ me a priority and deleting me ain’t “100;” no fuckin’ way!!! Don’t get this title, too, smh; random reference, smh! Tha rest of this ain’t too bad, but let’s just continue… My Rating: 3.4

½time: I thought this would’ve been a lil’ betta and a lil’ more undaground, but it looks like you’re tryna break into tha mainstream like all tha rest of these cats, out chea… Still, some quality tunes but definitely nothin’ nostalgic at all!! A 4.0 for tha CD rating, currently; let’s move on…

10. “In My City”
>>> A slow start… Not sure if I’m feelin’ tha faster flow of yours… SMH @ mentionin’ “money,” ya know?! What tha hell @ :50 with tha “SKIIIIIIIIIRRRR” sound effect? Interesting sound effects, at least, but so random!! SMH @ tha auto-tune on tha hook!! That’s more important than me?! You fuckin’ suck!!! Wow, tha whole entire 2nd verse’s sounds so off-beat and random ta me!! Like, how much more random can you get with tha rhymes?? My Rating: 2.7

11. “Thang 4 U”
>>> Bass too loud? You don’t know how to mix-and-master, smh? Quit mentionin’ “money” ‘cause you DON’T HAVE NONE!!! Bullshit! There’s a sample on tha hook! I luv Aaliyah, but c’mon, not on a Yola / Baton Rouge / Louisiana CD!! I don’t have any interest fa tha rest of this R&B shit on this so-called “sick tape,” smh! My Rating: 1.8

12. “Never Be The Same”
>>> Question: When I die, are you gon say, “R.I.P.,” or are you gon say, “Rest In Piss Frankie,” smh? You won’t remember me when I’m gone; fuck Frankie!! No need to try and sing Marvin Gaye on tha hook, smh! My God, does this R&B shit have to continue or what?! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s okay; let’s leave it at that. I’m not into tribute songs, anyway; they don’t make me jigg!! I wanna see you complain about that comment I just made! It’s not like you’re gonna see it, anyway!! “Thangz ain’t what they used to be;” well, Yola, thanx fa changin’ on me outta nowhere, smfh!!! Yeah, “Tha Flippa Boyz dayz,” too! Even Killa Sounz changed on me, too! Made a tribute video ta Disco, sent Killa his awards and then, he unfollowed and deleted me, smh! As far as you, smh @ talkin’ about Disco and, “I would’ve taken tha bullets fa him…” It’s like, really? I know you would neva take a fuckin’ “bullet” fa me now, would you?! I can’t believe back in tha day, I think I said, “I would take a bullet fa you and bleed fa you, Yola,” like, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!??! Even my brother heard that when he was alive!! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! I wasn’t even on drugs back then!!! WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! That had to have been tha weekend of November 5, 2010, when my cousin got married! See, I remember tha date; that’s how real and official I am!!! My Rating: 2.4

13. “Stay Down Till I Come Up”
>>> More randomness, here; repetitive hook, okay beat and randomness on tha 1st verse… “Gettin’ all this money;” shut tha fuck up about that shit already!!! Quit it!!! I neva got a penny from you!! You neva had any interest in me!! I don’t have ta say anything else about this; just end already! My Rating: 2.3

14. “Fresha Than The Board Of Health”
Like my manager says, “Really?!?” I remember when you rapped about “tags hang off everything a nigga buy.” I know that ain’t in today’s world of yours, since tha quality of you has significantly dropped!! >>> Stupid beat tag in tha beginning…; Lil’ Ken? $hop With Ken? However, back to tha Baton Rouge sound, here, though I don’t think it gon be strikin’… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s whateva; smh @ tha “money” shit. And, as far as tha “pants hangin’ off my ass” shit, that was Yung Yola, not this Yola! This Yola only iz a dad, not no rapper/producer/cool dude!! “I ran my money up;” where?!?!?!??! I ain’t get any!!! I luv how on tha 2nd verse, you’re continuin’ to be obsessed with Polo, here. Oh, don’t you wish you were cool again?! Not gonna happen!!! My Rating: 3.7

15. “Doing My Thang” feat. Ryco Hu$$le & BluBlack
Fa’real? I played this back in 2010, when you was almost 27 years-old! I’m now 27 years-old and no way would I push somethin’ from 2010 of mine; I live a completely different life now!! I hate that stupid Frankie from tha past that made $0.00 an hour and all that! I neva even made a penny off of you, either; pathetic!! I feel so worthless, powerless & all that bullshit! But, I guess this a 2015 version, since tha original version had Slymm On The Track and now, it has BluBlack… Original version was produced by you & Slymm On The Track and now, it’s just Blu… >>> Oh, this song from Blu, instead; peep tha review when I reviewed it under good terms…

“Yung Yola, No Soda!” Like his lil’ other name, too! Really feelin’ tha intro, here, between tha beat and instantly gettin’ hit wit some Soda (Yola)!! Catchy-ass hook from one of tha greatest!! And, even gettin’ hit wit him on tha 1st verse, too! Was locked up from ’09 – ’13, and it sounds like he neva even left! Kinda like Boosie, but, of course, in my autistic, unique perspective, I bring up Yola way before I bring up Boosie! That’s my job!! Great shit; I’ll always support him!! And, here we go wit Ryco on tha 2nd verse… Formerly known as D.$.G. ‘til ’13, it’s soundin’ pretty catchy, here. However, I wish he would take more risks wit gettin’ a hold of people / listenin’ to other peoples’ sides. I mean, it’s not scary, unlike havin’ a gun on you! Anyway, anotha great collab, like it was tha ’08 / ’09 dayz! Speakin’ of, as Yung Yola’s tha master to me (bein’ five years older than me), I’m, like, tha Yung Yola to tha people at my job, as I’m five years older than most of ‘em! Most of ‘em, especially this one chick, Amanda, who shift-leads, really looks up to me! So, as much as I look up to Yola, they look up to me! I also can’t believe I’m 26, tha same age Yola was when Yola & I first connected! Now, I see tha special life I live, now that I’m 26! Anyway, you’re on tha 3rd verse, Blu, comin’ through wit dat good shit, as well! I did think tha others owned you here, Blu, but it still was a real-nice joint to hear! I think Yola really set tha unexpected excitement fa me, here! He neva fails!! Just like my consistency at my job; I neva have been regreted of bein’ hired!!

^ Wow, that review’s horrible!! That was back on November 13, 2014! That Amanda screwed me over and smh @ how I tried ta hold you down, Yola! That was my fault!!! How you get “Doing My Thang” from “T.H.I.C.” as tha title?? My Current Rating: 4.7

16. “Sunshine” feat. Lil’ Neil
>>> Too R&Bish fa me; boring… Tha feature really does nothin’… Then again, I can see why you don’t fuck wit me, anymore. You ain’t on that G-shit and instead, on this R&B shit, which I’m not ‘bout! My Rating: 1.4

17. “Momma N Daddy Told Me”
Not diggin’ tha title; I don’t dig parents in subjects of anyone I deal with! I neva got tha chance ta go out fa a while and now that I can, all y’all talkin’ ‘bout y’all parents? Really? >>> Diggin’ tha G-Funk-kinda beat intro, here… Random hook, here, as you bringin’ up tha parents in tha hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it goes from tha parents to tha “hoes;” fa’real?? OMG, I remember when I tried mailin’ you a letter to jail for, like, 45 cents, at tha time, and when I asked my grandma for a stamp, she got annoyed and was like, “I’m tryna hold off on my stamps.” Like, that should’ve been a sign right there that you weren’t meant to be!! Like, 45 cents iz a warning?! Why didn’t I catch it?!? I hate bein’ dumb!!! “Damn, bro, that’s ‘pose ta be yo patna;” I know, right? Like, why’d you not treat me as important?! “One thing about it, I neva turn fake on myself;” well, then, what did you do to me?! Why am I not your #1 person ta hit up?!? After everything I did for you and that’s not “fake?!” Then, what iz it?! I’m confused as fuck!!! My Rating: 3.0

18. “For U”
What’s with all tha “U” titles? >>> Okay, must be $hop With Ken on tha beats; gonna hit him up and see what his interest iz with you… Or, then again, maybe, you stole his beats from online? Hmm, lemme ask… *IG-messages Ken…* Okay, nice lil’ song fa those locked up, or whateva, but c’mon, no shout out fa me? I’m not in jail, but c’mon, why you focused on just jail and dead ones, smh?! Just a regular lil’ tribute song…, not that I’m interested or anything… Oh, just heard back from Ken:
“I never heard of him big bro;” well, looks like this review ends with you STEALING his beats!!! Bwahahahahahahhaha!!! My Rating: 3.2

Overall: Thank God I’m done with this review!! Can’t believe you started goin’ in a soft, R&B route with tha music during tha 2nd ½!! Like, that’s not what I was expectin’, or maybe it was, since you completely cut me outta your life?! And, not even one fuckin’ shout out ta me on this CD? After everything I did for you, from dressin’ up as you fa Halloween, writing you almost 30 jail letters, tons of radio spins, radio-editing all of your music, bein’ there for you, wantin’ to “take a bullet” fa you, bein’ your “President of 99 Wayz 2 Grind Entertainment” & more, and it ends with you not sendin’ me your music when it comes out?! Fuck my life, right?! I’m completely done with you!! I’m not 21-year-old, sober, freebie fucking Frankie, anymore!! I’ve been through a lot more shit since!! I don’t live tha same life like y’all always do!! If this was a job, your ass would be FIRED!!!!! Good luck gettin’ somethin’ else outta someone else ‘cause you damn sure ain’t gettin’ nowhere-near tha same treatment as I gave you, when it came down to support!! And, it was all FUCKIN’ FREE!!!!!

Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by two artists who claimed their “money [was] long,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “‘Bout Dat Mess” Feat. Racked-Up Ready & Hannibal
Should be an interestin’ collab, though I shouldn’t say that wit so much excitement ‘cause Ready’s one of those cats that’s playin’ that stupid-ass, unreal, “unfollowing” game with me, outta nowhere, smh! I ain’t even do anything on Twitter! >>> A DJ Smallz intro; nice, catchy hook from that sample that sounds like Boosie! And, beat’s real nice wit you spittin’ on tha 1st verse, Blu! Gotta luv it! “Too old in tha game to be buckin’ wit you gangstaz;” agreed! Though I’m not a fan of anyone thinkin’ they “too old” fa somethin’, I do have to agree wit Blu: Tha only thing I’ll eva be “too old” for iz bullshit!! Nice job spittin’ on tha 1st verse, Blu! That sound I just luv! And, Ready on tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like some classic, Young Ready-type Racked-Up Ready! Nice and grimy, between tha content and delivery! Got a nice-soundin’ verse from Hannibal on tha 3rd verse; sounds real nice on this beat! Consistent rhymes; gotta dig that paranoia wit tha “police” and shit, somethin’ I’m actually goin’ through, at tha moment! An outro from G.H., a “Chopper City” representa; nice lil’ “504” representation, like he said… My Rating: 4.7

02. “Intro”
Did we just have a bonus “intro” track, before? Weird that tha actual “Intro”’s #2, but let’s see, here… >>> Didn’t sound like it connected wit tha outro of tha previous joint, lol… Anyway, nice beat, and consistent-soundin’ lyrics; diggin’ it, Blu, of course! LOL @, “Bitch, I get it up there, and I ain’t talkin’ ‘bout bus fare!” You got dat right, Blu! Fuckin’ $27.00 to go to NY & back wit tolls, smh! Cocky-ass NY! “Baton Rouge forgot about me;” actually, no! You’re one of tha prime definitions of “Baton Rouge,” and you continue to shine, especially wit me! I make sure you & Black Noise Records are my priority, while these otha niggaz don’t get commercials/do business wit me, smh! Nice lil’ “Intro” track, overall; consistent rhymes! My Rating: 4.4

03. “Suiside” Feat. Ar’Jay
Looks anticipatin’, though I dunno how much I’ll fuck wit some singin’ on tha hook… I dunno, we’ll have ta see how this goes… Spelled “Suiside”, here, instead of “suicide”; wonder if that’ll make a difference? >>> Not too bad of a hook, here; sounds a lil’ catchy, for tha streetz… LOL, Blu on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit a slightly-soundin’ Nicki Minaj flow; diggin’ dat “weed” line! You already know what it iz, Blu! “Been doin’ this shit my whole life, and still haven’t made it;” I feel ya. I feel like, why am I doin’ all this shit for Louisiana? Then, Mass Appeal from NY found me and I feel like I have value in my shit, now! Just stay consistent, even if you look like a weirdo in your room, constantly tryna define yourself! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ pretty catchy, too; keep it comin’, Blu! My Rating: 4.3

04. “Twerk Team” Feat. Hannibal & Sims
Should be interestin’… >>> Nice, energetic start already! Diggin’ this “twerk” anthem fa all these cities in tha south—oh wait, “New York,” lol! Sounds like a nice, undaground-soundin’ anthem! No need ta have all these special effects and shit; Blu comin’ through wit tha pure-soundin’, 225-like flow/sound!! Great hook, and tha 1st verse from Blu’s great to hear! LOL, Hannibal startin’ tha 2nd verse wit some “Pimp C” quotes; flowin’ pretty nice, here, includin’ tha “yee-haw,” lol… Sims comin’ through on tha 3rd verse… Soundin’ a lil’ dry wit tha voice/delivery fa this kinda song, but I dig that he has that YG sound, at times, wit his delivery… My Rating: 4.4

05. “D.F.W.M.” Feat. Hannibal & Ar’Jay
Already reviewed this song multiple times… Featured on my final mixtape compilation, Tha Louisiana Archives Vol. 17: Tha Survivor’s Cave, released back in March. Here’s what I had to say, previously:

No offense, but I don’t like that voice on tha hook; sorry, Ar’Jay. Kinda awkward and sounds like it’s yearnin’ fa somethin’, ova a “Don’t Fuck With Me” title… Anyway, Hannibal on tha 1st verse, and at least there’s a good flow, here; good shit fa tha “Lane!” Beat’s okay, here, too; not much happenin’, at times… Thought that was Ar’Jay on tha 2nd verse? Maybe, it iz; wow, I’m so lost… However, I like how tha beat reversed around 1:46! Pretty catchy, or wait, Blu, iz that you? Can’t believe I’m confused, even though I put this on YouTube… Neva mind, it was Blu; sounds nice and morphed… Ar’Jay singin’ on tha bridge, here, afta tha 3rd hook… Kinda random, though, it’s like, ehh, not really tha kinda voice fa this track. I liked tha whole The Big Picture CD betta than this joint, pretty much. Their new CD, FUPM, iz comin’ soon! My Current Rating: 3.4

06. “First Of All (F.U.)”
Hmm…, hmm… >>> Really likin’ tha beat intro, here… Diggin’ tha early 2000’s beat sound, here; gotta luv how Blu’s sound always sounds pure, for tha undaground! Nice lil’ rhymes, too, includin’ an “R.I.P.” shout out to “Michael Green,” as well. Nice hook, too; real catchy wit tha “first of all,” as well as tha “fuck you” shit! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, too! Even on dat “molly;” gotta luv da Jungle Boy!! My Rating: 4.5

07. “Same Thang”
Keepin’ it goin’…! >>> Likin’ this softer sound!! Great beat durin’ tha 1st verse, includin’ your real-life rhymes! Them “dreads hang” and all dat; gotta luv tha “dreads;” always! Tha hook sounds pretty nice, too! As always, I’m diggin’ tha undaground sound! Glad you don’t sell out; fuck all those otha niggaz who brag about their “YouTube views” and shit! No recognition from tha Lucky Dog, there! Oh, smh, speakin’ of, you mentioned one of tha main ones in tha 2nd verse: “Look at Mista;” yeah, like, a ‘random buzz’ ain’t for me, at all! Save that for others! But, lol, diggin’ that there’s a skit before tha 2nd hook; a shootout! Nice that there’s a beat outro, too… My Rating: 4.4

08. “Up There”
LOL! Anotha one that was on one of my previous mixtapes! Also, The Big Picture CD from Black Noise… Wow, I’ve come a long way within that year that I put this on my mixtape! Five figgaz later!! And, FYI, in case y’all ain’t see tha review:

Glad this still made tha cut! It was first featured on my Tha Louisiana Archives Vol. 14: Important Artists Only! mixtape I dropped last year, on my birthday. Usually, I just post tha current rating, but since this iz an important review, I’m just gonna paste what I previously wrote, for tha hell of it… Just luv tha hypnotic sounds of tha beat; too crazy!! Would’ve done better with me last year, if I wasn’t in my DJ B-Real funk/what I like to call, “Heroin addiction!” Tha hook’s catchy wit Blu comin’ through wit a singin’-like voice; definitely diggin’ it!! And, comin’ through on tha 1st verse as a mission: You “gotta get it up there!” Tha 2nd verse iz consistent, too; gotta luv how Blu comes through like it’s your “lunch;” you must have this in your DNA—systems, whateva!! My Current Rating: 4.8

09. “That’s How I’m Coming (F.A.N.)”
Keepin’ these acronyms goin’…! >>> A lil’ bit of a fade-in intro, here… Diggin’ tha beginning; “F.A.N.” = “Fuck a nigga;” figured that from F.A.N. Entertainment, which their label name’s “Fuck A Nigga Entertainment.” Anyway, diggin’ tha hook, of course! Filename says, “That’s How I’m Coming,” as tha title, while S.O.S. gave me tha title as, “F.A.N.” For me, it makes sense to use both, here… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and this sounds great. LOL, “Don’t need ta say my age!” LOL, if you don’t think I still remember your exact birthday, then, I might as well die now, ya dig?! Feelin’ tha 2nd verse, here, includin’ those beat sounds! Damn, you got this shit on lock, 24/7!! LOL @ not hittin’ “‘em wit dat Dougie,” but, “Hittin’ ‘em wit dat Douglas?” Diggin’ it! My Rating: 4.3

10. “What That Mean?” Feat. Hannibal
Keepin’ this goin’…! Filename has an acronym of “WTM”, but it looks better wit tha full title…? >>> Diggin’ tha hook; I feel you callin’ out tha cocky crowd, here, wit how they have ‘so much!’ LOL @ tha French Montana start to tha 1st verse, not worryin’ “about nothin’.” For you, it sounds great; I would’ve criticized someone else, but you got this catchy shit on lock! LOL @ you “screamin’, ‘Yolo,’ in this ma’fucka;” like how you said that… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it’s soundin’ catchy wit tha non-stop “WTM” shit; nice! No Hannibal, lol? Background vocals on tha hook? That what it sounds like… Aight, I’ll be nice and leave him in tha ID ‘cause of tha hook… My Rating: 4.2

11. “First Day” Feat. D.J.
Neva heard of tha featured person, before… I recognize this title from S.O.S., so let’s see how tha actual review goes… >>> Nice lil’ start, here; glad we’re back to tha more-upbeat shit. Oh, catchy hook; that classic Blu sound, here!! Luv tha repetitive hook; “stupid…dumb…!!” All “day!!” “I know how ta add, I got a calculator brain!” I agree, Blu! I was high three dayz ago, and I was like, “I gotta get up for work in seven hours, rounded. That’s 3,600 x 7… = 25,200 seconds!” Best believe, I got it!! I blew my cousins & their friends away wit my “brain!” Shit yeah! And, tough Blu, as you were “14” and “brought a tooley to school;” damn! Hearin’ tha D.J. dude on tha 2nd verse and he sounds like a good youngin ta be cool wit Blu… Nice lil’ first time hearin’! My Rating: 4.6

½time: Got anotha excellent release, here!! See, if I’m workin’ my ass off and makin’ myself a priority, these reviewz gotta come wit value—pure value!! And, there’s no room for wackness, here!! So far, I’ve come across an undaground, consistent, great-225-vibin’ Blu, puttin’ out a 4.4-rated CD, at tha moment!! Can this greatness continue? Of-fuckin’-course, it gotta!!

12. “T.H.I.C.” Feat. Yung Yola & Ryco Hussle
Lookin’ like an anticipatin’ collab, here! Original filename says, “That’s How I Came,” but I’m diggin’ this acronym, instead… >>> “Yung Yola, No Soda!” Like his lil’ other name, too! My Rating: 4.8

13. “I Just Popped A Tab” Feat. Lil’ City & Profit
Ooh @ tha newbies on tha feature! Hope they’re real great fa this classic-lookin’ title!! Filename says, “Fire Breathing,” which iz nice, and tha title S.O.S. told me iz, “I Just Popped A Tab;” both work for me!! >>> Fade-in intro? Why must they fade in, lol? Sounds awfully quiet…? Okay, at :24, it kicked in; nice hook from one of them newbies! “In tha lab, one blunt iz all I need;” lol, one hit of tha gravity bong, a.k.a. tha Geebs, gets me real high!! Oh, can’t wait ‘til Sunday!! Dat shit sooooooooooo power-fuckin’-ful!! Nice 1st verse from Lil’ City, here; feelin’ his high life he got goin’ on, between tha 1st verse & hook! LOL, heard tha “Fire Breathing” part; nice for a title, but I definitely gotta just go wit, “IJPAT,” lol! LOL, I did an acronym, just now, lol! Blu, you’re on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit consistent rhymes; good shit! “Trashin’ at dat red light;” they need ta get rid of those stupid photo-enforced shit in NY! So shitty to full stop at 60 MPH ‘cause of a fuckin’ $218 camera! Tha 2nd newbie, Profit’s on tha 3rd verse, and he sounds like Wacko and/or Skip (I forget which one); nice! Gives me a 504 vibe fa this Blu perspective! “Gutta to tha bone grizzle!!” My Rating: 4.3

14. “223’z & 9mm’z”
A gun joint, here, wit only 2:20 on tha length? LOL, two minutes shorter than my high guess, lol? I’m buggin’ out! >>> Feelin’ tha lil’ gangsta-soundin’, Baton Rouge-like beat for tha start, here! Sounds like you’re deliverin’ tha hook in a catchy way! Really diggin’ everything you bringin’ on tha hook!! “Tattoos and dreads;” nice! Also, diggin’ tha lil’, “Shit yeah,” background adlibs! LOL, one day, my manager asked me somethin’, and I said, “Yeah…,” quietly. She then said, “You don’t sound that enthusiastic!” Then, I told her, “Like my southern people say it, ‘Shit yeah!!’” LOL, she was diggin’ it! Luv bringin’ my Baton Rouge/Louisiana vibes to work; they see someone they’ve neva come close to seein’, before!! I like how you delivered tha end of tha 1st verse, too; catchiness tha whole way ‘round!! Fuck, this joint was too short fa me! Too good!! Thought there’d be a 2nd verse, but hey, it’s still excellent!! My Rating: 4.7

15. “I’m ‘Bout My Cheese”
This looks like it gon be catchy! Fuck tha word, “Money,” it’s all about dat “cheese,” ya dig?! >>> Really diggin’ tha beginning; almost sounds like an old video game sound in tha beginning? LOL, I dunno… Either way, great beat from you and I like how you’re deliverin’ tha hook in a laidback way! LOL, tha 1st verse sounds nice, too! Diggin’ how you comin’ through, here… LOL, 2nd time I heard you mention, “Donkey Kong,” on this CD; great! I almost was gonna play that (“Donkey Kong” 64), but I went wit Final Fantasy III, at tha moment… This review has been so catchy, to where I’ve only played, like, five minutes outta tha whole review, so far, lol! Tha 2nd verse sounds good, too, “tryna reach tha moon!” I feel ya! We gotta all have, like, a piece of everythang, ya know?! An outro, here, includin’ some chokin’ on some smoke; shit yeah!! LOL @ them “shittin’ on [themselves],” too; gutta shit! Gotta luv my undaground!! My Rating: 4.3

16. “King Of The Block”
Keepin’ tha solo jointz comin’ along, here… BTW, surprised I’m still up: 9:43 PM? I gotta get up at 3:09 AM tomorrow, to open, lol! Gotta keep grindin’, ya heard me?! >>> Ooh, likin’ tha anticipatin’, dark beat intro!! Really diggin’ this hook: “Call me a threat, I’m tha king of tha block!” Get ‘em, Blu!! “It’s tha captain;” of course you are, Blu! Glad you ‘bout ta “roll anotha blunt;” neva stop!! Glad 2009 ain’t caution or stop you!! Ooh, likin’ tha shit at 1:09, wit how you said, “Self;” you said, “Sizzelf!” LOL, “Enjoy your sizzelf wit dat caramelicious coffee,” ya dig? LOL, it could come outta me, one day!! I remember thinkin’ of watchin’ this DVD about tha south, a decade ago. When they mentioned New Orleans, they mentioned DJ Jubilee, and they were like, “How did he make up 500 different names of dances?” Seemed impossible, but now, it’s like wit me wit greeting people! I’ve come up wit at least 100 different sayings! I can’t even keep up wit ‘em!! Anyway, tha 2nd verse sounds pretty nice, too; tight track, here! My Rating: 4.6

17. “Dime Bread Diva” Feat. S.O.S.
From tha The Big Picture CD, from last year! It was my top-rated song from that CD and here’s what I had to say about it, in case y’all missed it:

Definitely diggin’ tha beat start, right chea! I like that it’s 22 seconds!! Classic-soundin’ Blu catchiness on tha hook, right chea!! Sounds like he’s havin’ sooooooo much fun wit this “dime bread diva,” or should I say, divas!! Real catchy!!! Tha 1st verse from Blu sounds hella catchy, too!! “I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T,” you know! Of course, this sound takes me back to tha Code Blu dayz; I’m real glad I’m reviewin’ it live, right now!! Here’s S.O.S. on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit tha Blu/Black Noise flow, and I’m feelin’ it! Great shit; just luvin’ how he comin’ through wit tha flow, also!!

And now, thinkin’ about it, it has great memories with me, back when I reviewed it! Tha day after, that’s when I got tha call to go to my job!! I changed tha game!! Tha day before, I was a complete loser, lost! And now, I own it, but against almost everyone in tha music business, I’m not cocky about my status! My Current Rating: 4.9

18. “This One Here”
Yeah, what’s up wit “This One Here,” lol? Now, 3:20 for tha length? LOL, we got 2:20, 3:20, but no 4:20? Well, tha 1st joint was 4:21; doesn’t even count, lol! >>> Ooh, chokin’ heavily on that smoke in tha beginning!! You know I luv when y’all are chokin’!! “This one” sounds good, fa those that are goin’ through a struggle. LOL, for me, it’s like, “This one here for those who struggle socializin’…” Then again, one I hit da weed, my socializin’s all normal, thank God! Anyway, tha 1st verse ain’t too bad, here; sounds okay… LOL @ how, startin’ tha 2nd verse off, you “opened up tha refrigerator door and thought, ‘SMH,’” lol! Tha 2nd verse ended outta nowhere, as tha beat faded out wit you finishin’ tha verse off… My Rating: 3.8

19. “He Who’s Winning”
Likin’ this title; what will come outta it? >>> Ooh @ tha beat start; sounds like I’m in a land of tha unknown! Sounds like you sound a lil’ white, here, lol, wit tha way you say, “Swagger.” LOL, like, no “A”-ending pronunciation? Anyway, speakin’ of how you tellin’ ‘em, “You wanna get high?” I have ta say, it sounds like you sound nice and high, but in a different way, here… LOL: “Nothin’ in my pants but dick and iron;” that’s all they gon find, for those that are readin’ this! Nice that you mentioned, “Drop that loser, and come wit he who’s winning!” Yup, did that tha other day, as I found $30 in winning scratch-offs! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, too, here; sounds like a lotta rhymes… My Rating: 4.2

20. “Money” Feat. Hannibal & S.O.S.
I’ll take tha “Cheese” title, instead of this… But, you’ve been consistent, lately, so let’s see what gon come outta this… >>> What’s up wit tha intro? Sounds like DJ Khaled shoutin’ out, “DJ Smallz”…? Inconsistent/ripped from anotha mixtape? Like, all tha otha jointz but tha 1st one had a DJ Smallz mention… Anyway, nice hook wit tha singin’ Blu, even though I neva take “money” songs serious… Can’t eva call you a “sellout” ‘cause you keep tha undaground vibes alive, in dat BR! You’re on tha 1st verse, and tha rapid-soundin’ flow’s pretty nice; I can dig it, to mix wit this singin’ hook. Thought I wasn’t gonna get too much outta Hannibal on tha 2nd verse, but I’m diggin’ this fast-paced flow! Almost sounds like he’s a Midwest cowboy in tha hood, lol… Hearin’ S.O.S. on tha pre-verse (before tha 3rd verse), and it’s kinda ehh, wit his singin’—well, not too bad… At least he ain’t fake like all those other shitty artists I see flashin’ shit! But, a verse snuck in, toward tha end, and it sounded better than I expected, wit tha fastness… But, as you know, I usually don’t rate my “money” songs that high, especially in tha 4.0 range! My Rating: 3.9

21. “Yea On A Nigga”
Looks like it gon be catchy wit tha “Yea” in tha title, lol? >>> Anthemic beat start… Okay, tha hook sounds pretty tight; almost sounds like my notification alert on my phone (“Jai Jai Ram Ramaiya Krishna Kanhaiya” by Lord Vishnu Bhajans) wit one of tha sounds, lol! Diggin’ this field of gunplay on tha hook; good shit! Tha 1st verse sounds like a cool Blu, as always, wit how you sound! Tha 2nd verse sounds nice, as you’re givin’ these niggaz tha prices on dem “pillz!” I already know you a fiend fa dem “pillz!” Nice “shout out to Kevin Gates;” gotta give him a shout out! That’s how tha label found me (through my reviewz)! My Rating: 4.1

22. “Turn Up, Don’t Turn Down” Feat. Hannibal
LOL, just when S.O.S. gave me tha track names as acronyms, earlier, this one’s a full title, while tha filename’s an acronym (“TUDTD”), lol… >>> Really diggin’ tha zoned-out beat start; trancey? Diggin’ it, though it looks short wit this length… Nice job wit tha quick 1st verse… Tha hook sounds pretty catchy; I’m likin’ how you’re semi-singin’ tha hook, gettin’ fucked up! And, here’s Hannibal on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit a good sound, between tha beat and himself… My Rating: 4.2

23. “Never Seen” Feat. Hannibal
Endin’ it wit tha 23rd track, featuring Hannibal, once again… >>> Why tha DJ Smallz tag intro? That just lowers my anticipation, fa real! Sounds too inconsistent, since this an album, not a mixtape! Anyway, sounds good wit tha beat and how you’re comin’ through on tha hook, Blu! Likin’ tha “never seen” shit… Here you are on tha 1st verse, comin’ through, preppin’ these hoes wit “pullin’ up [your] zipper,” lol… LOL @ tha Santa Claus line: “I got a fat weed sack;” dumb!! Nice shit, Blu! And, Hannibal wrappin’ up this CD wit tha final verse, comin’ through wit some shit ta feel good, feelin’ fucked up! It reminds me of all my nights in NY, sittin’ in dat treehouse, gettin’ fulla dat shit! All I do iz record myself, talkin’ random shit, feelin’ good, and gettin’ buku pics! I hate that it gettin’ fuckin’ cold out again, but at least we have a heater in there, now! Priceless memories!! My Rating: 4.0

Overall: Feels like it’s been fa’eva since I’ve last done a review, so this seems like it took fa’eva to do… Anyway, great job, Blu! You continuously solidify your status as Gardere Lane’s #1 rapper, as well as one of my favorites in Baton Rouge/Louisiana! You continuously brought tha heat, here, and I luv how you reached out to me when that one friend I was dealin’ with up here was ignorin’ me. It’s like, BluBlack, outta nowhere? Tellin’ me you have a new CD out? That’s what’s up! Anyone’ll come to my rescue and just like your song says, “Don’t fuck with me!” Yeah, I got an army of backups, especially from my job and peeps like you from Louisiana! But yea, I think I oughta wake up tha Fridayz, so I finna wrap this up! Keep bein’ you! Keep stayin’ undaground! Kinda like how my gurl, Amanda, says: “Don’t ever change! You’re tha bomb-dot-com!!” Known you for six years and you still don’t disappoint!! Can’t wait to show/talk about this wit Mass Appeal! Glad we got S.O.S. behind us! CD’ll be on iTunes & online soon, so everyone’ll hear it!

Article #01: FrankieThaLuckyDog'z Best Underground Louisiana Rap From the Last 7 Years

FrankieThaLuckyDog’z Best Underground Louisiana Rap From the Last 7 Years

When it comes to Louisiana rap, FrankieThaLuckyDog is a modern-day savant. And we’re not just talking about being able to recite Cash Money and No Limit Records’ respective rosters. The 26-year-old Pennsylvania native has an unparalleled knowledge of Louisiana’s underground scene. Yung Yola, Nu$$ie, DJ B-Real, BluBlack: these are just a handful of the names in Frankie’s rolodex of reviews.

Seven years ago, a sequence of events led Frankie to discover 23-year-old Jimmy the DJ’s Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 1 mixtape. 1,417 reviews later, including one of Kevin Gates’ All Or Nuthin’ (The Mixtape) in September of 2008, FrankieThaLuckyDog is celebrating the 7-year anniversary of his “Louisiana Connection.”

#10: Yung Yola & D.$.G. 99 Wayz 2 Grind (2009)
Straight outta Gardere Lane in Baton Rouge, Yung Yola & D.$.G. brought their street tales to tha table with their 99 Wayz 2 Grind project. From Yola’s pill-poppin’ anthem “Keep Chewin'” to tha ghetto fabulous “What Am I Gone Do Today?,” it’s no surprise why Frankie got hooked onto Yola’s persona.

#09: K-Chill Fight Night (2011)
Opelousas native K-Chill has been in tha Louisiana rap scene since tha mid ’90s as a part of tha rap group Da Click. Droppin’ his Fight Night disc in late 2011, Frankie became hooked to a consecutive amount of club bangers. Songs such as “Conan,” “Who Wanna Fight,” “Call The Ambulance,” and “Put That Pistol On Ya” prove to tha listener that you can have energy for years to come.

#08: Nu$$ie Bad Azz (2006)
Reppin’ Baton Rouge, now-deceased rapper Nu$$ie dropped his debut, Bad Azz, in 2006. With features that include Baton Rouge natives Kevin Gates, Savage, Big Markee, Max Minelli, to name a few, tha production made you feel like you were deep down in Baton Rouge, even if you were not near there. Not to mention, Nu$$ie and tha crew’s street rhymes give you an insight on how you can love and take caution in tha streets of BR.

#07: Young Ready Junkie Medicine (Cocaine Edition) (2006)
Straight outta Zion City in Baton Rouge, rapper Young Ready, now known as Racked-Up Ready, hit tha underground streets in 2006 with his Junkie Medicine (Cocaine Edition) mixtape. Featuring quality production from DJ B-Real, Sims & Killa B, as well as features from rappers out his section, Ready gave tha streets a take on how gutta Baton Rouge people can be. Mix tha content with tha production and your replay button will always be on.

#06: Tha Camp Break It Off! (2007)
Released in tha fall of 2007, Baton Rouge supergroup Tha Camp, consisting of C-Loc, Reno Da Gutta, and Young Ready, released their Break It Off! disc. As each rapper took turns deliverin’ street rhymes and club bangers, production from heavyweights like B-Real, Mouse, and C-Loc made Frankie keep bumpin’ Break It Off! non-stop.

#05: DJ B-Real Pay Da Producer Vol. 1 (2013)
Tha year 2013 kicked off strong when Baton Rouge’s Trill Entertainment producer B-Real dropped his solo debut, Pay Da Producer Vol. 1. Producing and rapping every track with underground Gs like Big Wayne, Zeus, Infa Red, and Mouse, B-Real’s flow and club-friendly tracks were highly infectious to Frankie’s ears. Pay Da Producer Vol. 1‘s one of those CDs that will make you ask B-Real to forever rap and produce tracks—any time, any day.

#04: Jimmy the DJ Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 2: Ghetto Pass (Hosted by Nu$$ie) (2008)
Kenner DJ, Jimmy the DJ, dropped his second mixtape compilation, Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 2: Ghetto Pass, in tha summer of 2008. Hosted by Nu$$ie, tha mixtape features underground rappers from New Orleans and Baton Rouge coming together and bringing their A-game. As Frankie supported each rapper, he even got a shout out from Nu$$ie on tha outro.

#03: Beat Flippa Street Certified (2008)
During 2008, Baton Rouge producer Beat Flippa dropped his debut, Street Certified. Featuring pure production from mainly himself, as well as features from Kevin Gates, Savage, Nu$$ie, Young Ready, and more, Street Certified provided a buffet of Baton Rouge quality for Frankie. Street Certified‘s a great place to find plenty of rappers, street music, club bangers, and a sound to always keep on replay.

#02: Big Jay Presents Pyrex Radio Vol. 4: From Crumbs 2 Brickz (2006)
Baton Rouge DJ Big Jay came through in late 2006 with his 4th installment of his Pyrex Radio mixtape compilations. With features like C-Loc, Young Ready, Savage, Kevin Gates, Jigga House Records, 3Deep, and others, Frankie got addicted to this mixtape quicker than any drug. It also opened tha door for him to embrace Baton Rouge’s sound and style.

#01: BluBlack Code Blu (2008)
Gardere Lane representative BluBlack released his Code Blu album toward tha end of 2008. With nearly all of tha production and rappin’ done by Blu, Blu’s drug-induced lifestyle, pill-poppin’, street music caught on with Frankie in a major, addictive way. Tha CD also introduced him to peeps like Yung Yola, and he kept replaying tha CD constantly throughout 2009. Code Blu goes down as Frankie’s favorite Louisiana CD that he’s come across throughout his 7-year period of bein’ connected with tha Louisiana rap scene.
