Review #147: Baby L's "Money Planes"

Wat up, it's FrankieThaLuckyDog here. After havin' a GREAT Thursday evening (by talkin' to Young Ready (NO LONGER IN JAIL!!!) and J-Dirty (Down Bad's manager)), I'm DEFINITELY in tha mood to show mo luv to Louisiana, ya heard me! Here goes a review for Baby L's, outta dat 985; it's his recent mixtape, "Money Planes." Here goes my review for Baby L's "Money Planes"! Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "I'ma Do It"
Oh and because I know that you use a lot of jacked beats, I'm gonna try and be calm about them. Anyway, let's see how we gon start this bitch off… >>> Tha beat iz tha "N.I.G.G.E.R." beat and I'm lookin' forward to hearin' what you got to say on this… Neat hook and hearin' tha 1st verse… Of course, likin' your rhymes… You were a mix of 16 and 17 years old (prolly mostly 16) when this shit dropped (saw that you uploaded it on Datpiff towards tha end of August). Cool shit so far and as tha 2nd verse starts, I'm glad "you got your money flyin' out tha window;" nice way to describe your mixtape's title. Feelin' that 2nd verse and now hearin' tha 3rd verse… Of course again, I think you got a great young voice for this shit. This flowed pretty nice and you don't ruin jacked beats. My Rating: 4.3


02. "Fly Boi L's"
I already know you a "fly boi, L's;" but let's see how you put it into a song you're about to rap on! >>> I can't tell what beat this iz but since I don't know it, you know I have a better chance of anticipating it! Anotha pretty catchy hook and glad you been doin' this since "you were 12!" Tha 1st verse was pretty nice; somethin' that even though I don't type a lot about it, it's good still. I agree wit you on tha 2nd verse: "you stay fresh from head to toe." One of tha 1st times I talked to you, I wanted to know what kinda pants/shorts jeans you was rockin' so you know you got yo swag up already. Great 2nd verse also and at tha end, you sounded like Lil' Wayne wit ya voice when you said "Blood Money muthafucka!" My Rating: 4.2


03. "Big Dreams"
I can tell it's over Game's beat. I hope you can relate to tha same title as he had (since this iz tha same title). >>> After 39 seconds, here comes tha 1st verse… Yeah, "'08 iz your year" 'cause look, I found you this year (heard about you on July 14, 2008 but didn't talk to you 'til August 11, 2008); you definitely on tha come up! You already know I can't wait for you to get your own beats 'cause they'll be great! Nice 1st verse and here's tha 2nd verse… Well, a lil' right before tha 2nd verse, I like how you say "yeah… yeah…" 'cause it sounds like you got yo swag up (which you do). Tha 2nd verse had some simple rhymes so I can't really say much about it; likin' these transitions between verses (or iz that tha hook wit all those adlibs?). Likin' tha 3rd verse about your "dreams." Now, wit only 51 seconds left, I'm likin' your talkin' at tha end. This was a pretty nice joint. My Rating: 4.0


04. "Good Love"
I guess this iz lucky for you: A lil' flashback: On MTV Jams right now, it's Play-N-Skillz Feat. Big Gemini & Rob G "Latinos Stand Up" and it's sayin' "lemme see ya put ya L's in tha air." I guess that could be used for right now 'cause this iz a Baby L's mixtape I'm reviewin'. Anyway, I'm eatin' fishsticks for lunch right now so I'm just typin' wit my left hand and my right hand's pinky so I might not type a lot… A joint only 2:00 long… I like breezed through tha title without realizin' this iz prolly ova Sheek Louch's song of tha same name; now, I'm lookin' forward!!! >>> Glad this girl iz keepin' you company. This should've been longer… Nothin' really else to say. For somethin' 2 minutes long, there shouldn't've been like 50 seconds of talkin' at tha end. My Rating: 3.0


05. "20 Bars"
LOL @ on tha Datpiff ID that it's a "o" instead of a zero (in tha "20"). Now, err-time I see someone's title have "bars" in it, I think of Cassidy (I guess 'cause his last album was called "B.A.R.S."). Anyway, lemme hear these quick "20 bars"… >>> It's Wiz Khalifa's "Say Yeah" beat… 30 seconds in and here you are! You were "16" when this was recorded… I'm feelin' tha rhymes and how you're spittin' on this fa'sho. I like tha "comin' in this bitch, slicin' err-body's throat" line at tha last bar. Likin' tha talkin' at tha end even though a lil' long… My Rating: 4.2


06. "I'm Blood Money"
Aight back to regular typin' finally… Let's see this… Jim Jones or Lil' Wayne beat I'm expectin'. >>> Nope, wrong both wayz 'cause it's "Foolish" beat; anotha short, 2:30 joint (they're gettin' slowly longer and longer, lol). Since it's a Shawty Lo beat, I'm real glad you're usin' a Shawty Lo type of voice in tha beginning. Definitely likin' this as I'm hearin' tha 1st verse talk about Jimmy The DJ's "Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 2" mixtape and tha whole "internet gangstas" part wit tha shit provin' that those "e-thugz" are fake; GREAT 1st verse and cool hook! You know I'm definitely feelin' this shit right here; great job on this beat! BTW, this could've cut off at 2:10… A lil' longer wit that ending of tha beat. My Rating: 4.5


07. "Good Morning"
Rocko beat? I'm prolly wrong but I can't tell. Let's see if it's as good as "I'm Blood Money"… >>> LOL @ tha shorter length, 1:21. I don't know tha beat… Oh wait, neva mind, it's Kanye. Your "yeah…" also sounds like Curren$y (kinda said that when I first heard you on "Pop It Off"). What was that, like 4 bars, lol? Pretty nice but wayyyy toooo short. My Rating: 2.8


08. "Higher"
Okay, a lil' longer here (3:17 on tha length). Because most of these beats (I think all of 'em so far) are '08, this'll prolly not be Game's beat. I wonder who's it iz… >>> Well, first non-'08 beat as (just like wit Game's "Higher" beat) it's an '04 beat (Do Or Die/Kanye West "Higher" beat here). Nice 1st verse as you were talkin' about a girl. Lookin' at my background on my labtop right now (just switched it to tha pic of tha girl I like at my college, Alexia (even though she's taken), and me in tha library) and this iz a great vibe here! Likin' tha 2nd verse too. Yeah L's, you "shouldn't've let her go." A real long ending, even though tha sample in tha original hook can carry it to be a "not long" ending. My Rating: 4.4


½time: Pretty nice mixtape again from you. Of course, I always like your rappin'/voice/flow on tracks. Don't worry, tha day'll come when you're rappin' on your own/your homies' beats. I predict it'll be next year sometime, 2009. Let's see what's left of this mixtape, ya dig.


09. "If That Nigga Keep Talkin'"
For a sec, I was thinkin' of what tha beat could've been… Then, your song, "Pop It Off," popped in my head (when you say in it, "if that nigga… then, 'pop it off'."). So yeah, don't know what this gon be… Anotha short one wit 2:26 on tha length also… >>> LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would've guessed "Love In This Club" beat? I'm so used to hearin' tha Jason Nevins remix at 138 BPM… This, bein' ½ of it (69 BPM), sounds so fuckin' slow now, ROFL! Likin' all tha cussin' and tha "choppa/slugs" part; great 1st verse and now I'm hearin' tha hook!! Really likin' that "fuck him up" hook! Oh, a 2nd verse? I thought there was gonna be a 50 second ending, lol. I'm glad you're havin' a Young Jeezy style as it's a rendition of his verse! Likin' your "girbauds to tha flo" part (glad you rockin' dem 'bauds)! My Rating: 4.3


10. "Mo Murda"
A real long joint (hasn't been this long since "Big Dreams" which was a few seconds less than this) at 4:57 on tha length! Lemme hear this "murda" story… >>> LOL @ that laugh… Just like wit JD Killa's "Red Bandana" joint, it used tha same laugh sample (I have it on my iPod). It's tha "Put On" beat; I could be bored but hope your rappin' keeps this alive! I like when you said "paper planes" 'cause M.I.A.'s joint iz just BANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGIN' err-where!! I HOPE you rapped over that beat/rap over that beat in tha future! Definitely a GREAT 1st verse! I'm hearin' tha hook right now and I'm lovin' it wit tha 8 "mo murda" and 8 "b-burna" parts!!! Yeah, I "got no money" 'cause I paid $200 to get in my college and at least $350 to pay for books! I also had to take $100 out my VISA card! Tha money ain't gone at least as my dad iz supposed to gimme it back. Anyway, definitely a great 2nd verse too; not a borin' joint here as you're keepin' it alive tha whole time! Oh shit, at 3:25, where you say "make his pussy-ass scream," you used a TIGHT scream sample (anotha one I have on my iPod)! Good info on those bloods and crips that you know. GREAT 3rd verse as I loved tha whole thing and nice gunshots at tha end (those aren't tha ones I have on my iPod, lol). My Rating: 4.6


11. "Bangin'"
What type of "bangin'"? Outta tha 3: 1.) fuckin'; 2.) this song iz bangin'; 3.) my gat be bangin', I have a feelin' it's… umm… a lil' tough to choose 'cause tha previous joint was about "murda." I wouldn't think of it bein' that this joint iz bangin' and for some reason, I can't picture it bein' for tha females so I'm just gonna wind up guessin' that this joint gon be about ur gat bangin'. Let's see if I'm right wit only 1:58 on tha length… >>> I don't know tha beat but it sounds old and somethin' for tha females… Tha curiousness iz about to fade away…! Heard tha beginning of tha 1st verse and it sounds like a combo of "this song iz bangin'" and "my gat be bangin'" type of "bangin'." Glad you "stand by a blood pool;" that's raw!! I think I was right overall: this iz more towards tha "my gat be bangin'" type of shit. This a lil' short but there's no long endin' so there's no deduction on my rating. My Rating: 4.2


12. "Do My Thing"
Lemme go No. 2 for a sec… *leaves at 4:40 PM* *back at 4:48 PM* Even though I'm wearin' socks and have flip flops on, it's so gay how because my feet get cold that it makes me go No. 2; wtf!? It's 55 degrees out but tha floor in my room's a lil' cold. Anyway, what beat could this be? >>> Oh, this old "Blow Your Mind" beat from Styles & Swizzy. I like your "do my thing" parts in this. I'm glad you're "so muthafuckin' on;" just like Max Minelli. I hope your dude Keith iz doin' good; glad he "lit up a blunt for you" on this joint. Glad you're gonna "have a party in tha hood" for your dude BP when he gets out. I like at 1:31, tha "Gangsta Gumbo, I'm on that flight" part. This joint was different as tha lil' hook part, "I 'do my thing'," was throughout this whole joint and tha verse kinda blended into it; cool. My Rating: 4.1


13. "Kilo"
Even though on a jacked beat, your rhymes about this "kilo" should be REAL interesting/good to hear!! >>> Don't know tha beat but smh @ tha small length (1:19). Great lil' "kilo" part in tha hook where that girl's singin' about it! Actually, just by hearin' tha beat, I knew it had to be a Wu-Tang type of beat and accordin' to when I keep track of date/time when each joint comes out, I typed "kilo" on tha date/times I kept track of each joint and what came up was 3.08.2006 @ 9:20 PM: Ghostface Feat. Raekwon "Kilos". It prolly was that beat. Either way, great choice and nice lil' verse. Just like you said, I HOPE "you don't get killed." My Rating: 4.0


14. "Take Ya Money (Remix)"
What do we got here? >>> OHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S THA "Paper Planes" BEAT!!!!!!!! My wish came true!!!!! Good L's right here! Wow, how raw wit "wrap ya fuckin' moms up, stab ya fuckin' grandma;" you're NOTHIN' TO BE FUCKED WIT!!! Very gutta lyrics here!!! Glad you kept tha M.I.A. hook! Hearin' tha beginning of tha 2nd verse… Damn, you got err-thang from a "sack of piff" to that "choppa." Great 2nd verse but rawer 1st verse! Like that you kept tha bridge too wit tha "M.I.A.…no funny business" part! This my favorite off this mixtape; can tha last 2 jointz have a chance? I feel not but GREAT SHIT right here!! My Rating: 4.8


15. "Money On Ma Mind"
Prolly went tha Weezy route… >>> Yup; I thought it was gonna be a different route but no. Let's see what you do wit that 2:35 of a length. I like how you're addin' "blood" to tha "money on my mind" sample to make it for "Blood Money" (what you represent). Yeah, you're a "thug-ass nigga comin' straight from tha South;" I agree wit you. Once again, tha gutta lyrics, especially tha "rocket launcher" and "blow ya fuckin' house up" lines!!!! Great 1st verse; couldn't've gotten gutta than that! Ooh, a 2nd verse wit only 50 seconds left (you didn't just talk at tha remainin' time)! I like tha "tossed up like a salad, dude" part where you said "don't fuck wit tha wrong dude;" great shit again!! My Rating: 4.5


16. "Dipping From The Cops" Feat. JD
Last joint and only feature… Who's tha JD dude? Lookin' forward to this!! >>> Don't know who's beat this was at first but catchy hook!! I like that "his face turned blue, like a Pacman ghost" part on tha 1st verse! That's cool that you mentioned "Curren$y" when you were rappin' right after tha "Pacman ghost" line; nice lil' smooth verse right here! Definitely likin' that hook!! Hearin' that JD dude on tha 2nd verse… I thought it was gonna be JD Killa (as a surprise) from tha N.O. but it's not. I like tha "braces/mouth" line. Also, I'm likin' tha "hammer" line too! Up, a 3rd line: Likin' tha "like tha top of a sweater" line; great lil' 2nd verse!! My Rating: 4.5


Overall: End Time: 5:08 PM. Well, tha beginning was pretty nice but then tha 2nd ½ picked up a lot, ESPECIALLY at tha end!!!!! Keep doin' ya thang Baby L's and I'm glad you survived those gay-ass hurricanes when this mixtape hit Datpiff!!
