Review #191: The Showboys "The Ten Laws Of Rap/Cold Frontin'"

Reviewed on 5.01.2009 (Review No. 191)

Ahhh, what up? It’s FrankieThaLuckyDog. And today iz a SPECIAL day for me!! Not only iz it my last day of tha Spring 2009 semester, but TODAY IZ THA START OF MY “Louisiana Reviewz Marathon”!!!!! Since October 2008, I’ve been gearin’ up this event, and now, it’s here to begin!! Thanx to tha Louisiana Rap blog, I’m ready to do my thang! I have a total of 660 CDs/tapes to review; will I be able to do it? I NEVA doubt myself, nor do I stop! You KNOW I gon do this!!! Each review iz in time order, followed by ABC order. Startin’ thangz off iz a 1985 release from The Showboys “The Ten Laws Of Rap/Cold Frontin’”, an EP (which in order for a review, tha EP/tape/CD has to be at least 2 songs)! Start Time: 11:43 PM | End Time: 11:56 PM | Video Game Playing: Tetris Attack (for Super Nintendo)

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “The Ten Laws Of Rap”
I’m real curious to know how thangz gon start off…!! >>> Great old school sounding to tha start! You know this shit reminds me of Modern Belief class wit my teacher playin’ tha old jointz during class (e.g., Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five “The Message”). I like all tha “laws” that are bein’ spit on here wit tha 80’s Rap feel! Great ol’ skool Rap vocals here, as this bein’ tha 1st outta like thousands and thousands of songs I’m reviewin’ for tha marathon!! My Rating: 4.5

02. “Cold Frontin’”
I wonder what they’ll do wit this song; great title! >>> Okay, this iz interesting, and I’m still feelin’ tha 80’s style! They got good vocals for these tracks; just makes you embrace Hip-Hop more than eva! I like when tha title iz said, and all tha “frontin’” facts are interesting. A lot of intermission music in this one, which sounds a lil’ long, but it’s better than tha typical formats now. Too bad tha girl iz “cold frontin’” on dancin’. I guess it makes it a good song at least. My Rating: 4.2

½time: Well, it maybe ½time, but it’s tha end ‘cause tha last 2 are tha instrumentals…

03. “The Ten Laws Of Rap (Instrumental)”
Tha instrumental of tha 1st track…

04. “Cold Frontin’ (Instrumental)”
Tha instrumental of tha 2nd track…

Overall: Well, definitely into tha style here. It’s hard to believe this iz Louisiana music ‘cause it just sounds like everything that nearly came out in tha ’80s! I had no clue what to expect at first, but this was some great shit right here! I hope they’re still doin’ their thang…whereva. This marks tha shortest review I eva did (2 songs), as well as in time length (13 minutes), so congrats!
EDIT: This review was also only 1 and ¾ pages long, which I believe iz tha shortest too!

Rankings (according to my ratings):

02. “Cold Frontin’” 4.2
01. “The Ten Laws Of Rap” 4.5
