Reviewed on 6.04.2009 (Review #233)
Frankie here again... 'Bout to do my next review in my marathon. Damn, these CDs be always havin' 14, 15 tracks now! Tha next review I'm doin': G-Slimm "Fours, Deuces & Trays"! Start Time: 3:26 PM | End Time: 4:21 PM
Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0. Each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself with my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.
01. "Fours, Deuces & Trays"
Startin' off wit tha title track. I'm lookin' forward to this CD a whole lot! Hope it pays off!! >>> This iz startin' off like tha last CD I reviewed (Gregory D's "Niggaz In Da Boot") wit tha West Coast type style in tha beat. However, this sounds better! Nice intro wit tha "smokin' on dat fiya!" Tha 1st verse iz great; you doin' yo thang! Great job on tha 1st verse, and that hook iz tha shit! I luv tha "smokin' a J" part! Great "my car iz fulla chronic smoke" part! Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty good too. At 3:25, wit 1:00 left, it's just tha beat, and not a 3rd verse I see. This was definitely a catchy start into this CD! Oh wait, at 3:46, I like tha lil' part there! "Smokin' on that fire!" My Rating: 4.2
02. "The Chronic Man"
What a short length of a song (1:41)! I hope it's real good, although it's still real short! >>> Way too short wit an intro part to this, and a long outro part. I'll have to give it a decent rating fa bein' kinda small of a song. Still, this sounded good to hear though. My Rating: 3.4
03. "Back On My Block" Feat. Black Menace & Mystikal
Looks like this'll be a good joint! >>> Wow, it just went into tha song! Sounds great wit those vocals!! Catchy-ass hook wit a nice beat!! When you said, "Indiana Jones movie," it reminded me of almost like one of those Indiana Jones type songs in tha beat. Great 2nd verse, as well as tha 1st verse! Wow, at 1:48, what a CRAZY START to tha 3rd verse!!! I have tha back cover to this CD (on my computer), so I can see tha additional vocals. I found out that tha 3rd verse was from Mystikal; TIGHT shit!!! I'll have to look online fa tha exact features! Good 4th verse too! Yea, a 5th verse, only 3:35 into tha song!!! Definitely a NICE job on that verse, and holy shit, those gunshots at tha end (which lasted like 13 seconds straight) were CRAZY!!! Almost sounded like tha CD skipped, but no, it was real!! I even like tha ending wit tha hook, and tha echo at tha end! Well, I just checked online, and it says that Black Menace was on this too; props! My Rating: 4.5
04. "I'm The Problem"
Looks like this'll be anotha GREAT one!! >>> Anotha joint startin' without an intro! It sounds like you live around nothin' but "murder" as "murder's all you dream about;" are you still alive? Interesting 1st verse about all tha "murder" shit goin' on! Tha hook iz cool too wit tha sirens and all tha chatter. Keepin' this shit goin' wit tha 2nd verse too! Great job wit that verse! Lookin' forward to tha 3rd one! Tha 3rd verse did hold it down, as you did yo thang wit this shit! My Rating: 4.1
05. "Ain't Nobody Gafflin' Me"
What's that G word? Lookin' forward to this one too! >>> Sounds good fa a start. Tha 2nd verse iz doin' good too. Great job wit tha way you're rappin' on this shit. Catchy beat here too. Great job wit tha 3rd verse, and you held it down wit this one! My Rating: 3.9
06. "Countdown To Population Zero"
That's a nice title, which will prolly make this one be a great song! It's sad how tha title may come to life one day, but what can we do? Err-body needs to help tha world revert back to somethin' good! >>> Sounds pretty good so far. Good 1st verse, tha part after tha title iz great. Interesting shit here, and tha 2nd verse iz expressin' more shit! Kinda long wit that ending, but good facts. My Rating: 3.7
07. "Gone In The Wind"
New Orleans on tha length, lol (5:04)! I wonder if this'll be good fa me... >>> Beat iz nice and upbeat here... Great job wit tha rappin' on this shit; sounds great to hear! Tha 2nd verse iz soundin' like tha 1st verse wit tha consistent rappin'. Tha rest of it was good, but nothin' I would get excited about. Thanx 4 holdin' down this joint. My Rating: 3.6
½time: Well, off to a good start I guess. A few songs I'm definitely feelin' while tha others fit in good fa this CD. I hope there's a lot more excitement here!
08. "Live To Be A Man"
Looks like a grown-up title. I wonder what I can expect wit this one... >>> Interesting wit tha "learned to cuss in tha 1st grade 'cause she was cussin' at me" part. I've always cussed in my life (except for 2004 & 2005). Good 1st verse, and it sounds like tha 2nd verse, you're wantin' things to be good. That hook iz catchy fa me, and tha beat iz pretty good too. I like when tha title iz said from that voice. Good job on tha 3rd verse too. Nothin' else ta say wit this one... My Rating: 3.7
09. "Slippin' N Tha Darkness"
That's a good/catchy title! Wit only 2:50, let's hope fa some good shit! >>> Sounds okay fa a start... Not bad on tha 1st verse, and I like that this song has tha "don't start no shit..." thing that tha Youngbloodz used in their "Damn!" song in 2003 (which brings back some nice memories of Final Fantasy III, which I'm playin' now [haven't played far since 2003 no less, lol])! I thought I would expect this to be better, but nothin' stood out much except fa that hook. My Rating: 3.5
10. "Mamma Pray For Me"
Not a title I like, and it's 5:00 flat, so I'm gonna hope you make it catchy and not depressing! >>> Yea, slow start, and I don't know if I'll like it too much... Tha 1st verse sounds like you're afraid of a black man? I'm gonna have to give a lyrical rating fa this 'cause this ain't fa me. Good job wit yourself on tha 1st verse. Not bad on tha 2nd verse too. Tha rest was nothin' I can really comment on. Hope you did get through your struggles. Lyrical Rating: 4.1 | My Rating: 2.1
11. Wake Up
LOL @ tha 16 seconds... What could I expect? >>> Nothin' much, but good wake up call, lol. My Rating: N/A
12. "Fours, Deuces & Trays (Clean)"
Oh, it's just a clean version? I'm guessin' these are tha bonus tracks? I'll find out right now! See #1 fa tha review!
13. "Mamma Pray For Me (Clean)"
I don't think this one should've had a clean version. See #10 fa tha review!
14. "Live To Be A Man (Clean)"
Who knows. Wit tha clean versions, I may be able to play them at my college in tha Fall of this year, as I'll have an underground Louisiana Rap radio shift (although I can only play clean versions)! See #8 fa tha review!
Overall: Like tha last CD: Was feelin' tha beginning, but tha 2nd 1/2 wasn't much for me. This turned out to be okay, but I do look forward to hearin' more shit from you. I'm not sure if you're in my marathon anymore, but good job fa appearing in it!
