Reviewed on 12.14.2009 (Review #362)
It’s FrankieThaLuckyDog checkin’ in once again! Just got done wit tha Lil’ Boosie SuperBad: The Return Of Boosie Bad Azz commercial and now, I switchin’ it up ta tha reviewz again! Almost done wit all tha current ones!! Just six or seven left!! This next one iz Kevin Gates Behind Enemy Lines (Hosted by DJ Chill); here goes my review for it! Start Time: 6:17 PM | End Time: 7:45 PM
Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0. Each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself with my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Freestyle From Jail”
This should be REAL RAW since it’s a “freestyle from jail!!” REALLY lookin’ forward ESPECIALLY if there’s no beat!!! >>> I was right, no beat!! DEFINITELY on a COMPLETE street level here wit tha CRAZY-ASS rhymes!!! We gotta FREE KEVIN GATES!!! Tha whole entire thang iz true and it DEFINITELY made it known as a REAL GR8 intro!!! It can be made as a REAL GR8 outro too!! My Rating: 4.8
02. “Head 2 My Toes”
LOL! It been a minute since I reviewed this one (nearly 10 months ago)!! Although it was that long ago, only three months ago, I put it in rotation on my playlist and played it a few times at my college! I find it ironic ‘cause I just added this song randomly and it’s tha startin’ song fa this mixtape, lol. I believe Guss did this beat? It’s a cool-ass beat and sounds REAL GR8 wit you on it, Gates!! Tha hook may be simple but it sounds GR8 wit tha flow on tha verses!! And continunin’ on wit what I just said, your flow iz just REAL GR8 and catchy wit this beat to tha fullest!! More for tha females on tha 3rd verse; you blended tha verses in GR8 once again!! My Current Rating: 4.4
03. “Streets Of B.R.”
ROFL!! Although 2008, this ANOTHA song I aired this year ‘cause I forgot ta add it last year!! Wow, this mixtape on a ROLL wit tha songs I be playin’ and all dat already!!! It’s also used in my Tha Louisiana Pit radio show theme song ‘cause of your catchy street rhymes! Tha beat once again iz DEFINITELY nice and tha beat at :25 sounds REAL cool!! Tha hook iz a DEFINITE definition of tha “streets of B.R.!” I don’t even wanna look ta see what I rated this at first ‘cause it was prolly just a regular rating; it’s MUCH betta now!! Crazy-ass shit spit in tha 1st verse once again and I thank you fa puttin’ my All Or Nuthin’ (The Mixtape) review in your blog on MySpace; that’s watz good!! I can’t believe your All Or Nuthin’ review was my 115th; I’m now 247 CDs later, lol!! DEFINITELY on tha grind here for tha “streets of B.R.!!” Tha 2nd verse DEFINITELY keepin’ it hood to tha fullest on this REAL GR8 track!! I rememba wit dat CD that “Confessions Of My Life” was my top song. I almost feel like this iz tha top song on All Or Nuthin’ now that I look at it! Tha part from 3:02 – 3:04 iz what I used in my radio show’s theme song ta give it exposure; now that part reminds me of my show! My Current Rating: 4.7
04. “Stuck In Da Streets”
I re-reviewed those last two songs ‘cause when I reviewed them long time ago, I didn’t say much. When I review now, I basically explain tha whole song (verses, hook, beat, etc.). And now, we got a new song here so I gon check it out; more street shit!! >>> More REAL COOL production here; you DEFINITELY got your production on lock!!! Intro sounded cool and tha 1st verse sounds like you REALLY ‘bout yoself here!! You DEFINITELY did yo thang on tha 1st verse and tha hook sounds REAL GOOD ta hear!! DEFINITELY keepin’ tha streetz fulla music while you’re in jail!! Keep this interestin’ shit goin’, my boy!! Tha 2nd verse sounds like you givin’ yourself a positive, “smokin’ some weed.” Glad you got an attitude wit this shit right here wit your voice and emotions!! My Rating: 4.5
05. “She Don’t Wanna”
I think this anotha new one… I don’t know how anticipated this gon be… >>> Yes! Anticipation surpassed as it sounds good for a start; you got a REAL COOL style for tha start here ta have sex! Nice “dick/brick” part; dat shit was catchy! I also like tha “kitty/titties” part! Despite tha mixin’, I may get this shit on my radio show. I just don’t like airin’ shit that sounds mixed ‘cause it sounds weird on tha air when it’s not a mixshow. Either way, good job on tha 1st verse and you KNOW that hook DEFINITELY sounds GR8!!! Tha 2nd verse sounds like you’re really on tha “fuckin’” level here, lol! My Rating: 4.4
06. Kevin Talks From Jail
It’s only 14 seconds long so let’s see how much you can squeeze in… >>> I’m glad you called this mixtape Behind Enemy Lines ‘cause that’s a DEFINITE catchy street title for tha streetz!! My Rating: N/A
07. “Don’t Know What To Call It”
LOL @ this title, especially since it came from tha “I’m A Grinder” song at tha end of each verse! It should be REAL catchy so lemme REALLY see why you don’t have a name for whateva you’re talkin’ about, lol! >>> ANOTHA banga wit tha beat here!!! This gon be a TOP NOTCH mixtape to tha fullest!!! I hear tha hook and it’s recycled from tha “I’m A Grinder” song. I think it works REAL GR8 here ‘cause tha line was catchy! Nice job on tha catchy hook here! Tha 1st verse iz here and it sounds like you’re mixin’ “I’m A Grinder” wit “Swag Surfin’” wit your flow. OMG, lol, you just quoted “Swag Surfin’” too, lol. What’s up wit me and these correct guesses? Tha 1st verse once again iz catchy for tha streetz; they gon luv dis one!! Tha 2nd verse iz off to an above decent start. Once again, you got tha catchy flow here and I’m glad you made a song outta your “I’m A Grinder” quote! My Rating: 4.3
08. “Taking Off”
Not sure what I should say…; make it good!! >>> Anotha good beat intro once again!! I luv how it just gets BETTA and BETTA throughout tha intro!! Interestin’ intro also wit tha people who “went ta school wit you.” REAL TIGHT lyrics here in tha 1st verse wit tha “puzzle” parts and tha “eater” parts!! LOL @ people copyin’ you “saggin’ yo pants!” I hear tha hook now and it sounds catchy; I like tha title part in each way it’s expressed! VERY “mathematically” around tha 1:50 part wit those REAL CRAZY-ASS rhymes!!! Finally, a 3rd verse on this mixtape again! It sounded catchy and blended in pretty good wit this song here. Uh oh, a Guss beat comin’ up!! Heard his REAL GR8 tag: “Guss make my beats. I’m straight wit tracks, cousin!” My Rating: 4.3
09. “I Be In Da Trap” Feat. Nu$$ie
Ooh, an interestin’ collaboration here! Lookin’ forward ta not only hearin’ this one but makin’ tha commercial for it hopefully before tha year ends!!! >>> Sounds like what a typical trappa’s hook would be. I’m glad ta hear you havin’ a hook like this (screwed and all ‘bout dat money)! You comin’ through pretty good on this Guss beat on tha 1st verse; street shit here!! Pretty good shit from you on tha 1st verse; you do this shit fa tha streetz at ALL times!! I have ta say I’m not an idiot: It’s a recycled Nu$$ie verse here on tha 2nd verse!! NOT GOOD!! No feedback as it didn’t fit this song anyway!! Now, it’s back ta you on tha 3rd verse here and you’re doin’ tha damn thang wit your voice here! You’re “a lion in tha heat” wit this Rap shit!! My Rating: 4.1
EDIT: My bad about sayin' what I said about tha Nu$$ie verse. I just got tha word dat this song was out fa a while...
10. “My Niggas”
I may feel it betta than tha last song; hope there’s no negatives fa me!! >>> Pretty cool beat here for a start. I hear tha beginning and it sounds GR8 and interestin’ fa tha hook! I’m hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds pretty good; looks like “fan bases” are goin’ up! When I commented tha hook at first, it was only tha 1st ½ of it. Now, I hear tha title and it sounds REAL, REAL catchy (ESPECIALLY wit how you flow wit it)!! Tha 2nd verse iz here and you DEFINITELY luv your “polo;” I DEFINITELY feel dat!! Keep tha catchy shit goin’ since tha 2nd verse held it down fa tha hood! Tha 3rd verse pretty catchy; gotta luv your topics on what you rap about! My Rating: 4.3
½time: This iz prolly tha BEST a Kevin Gates CD/mixtape has sounded fa me!! Tha average CD rating iz lookin’ REAL GOOD: 4.4!! All tha jointz goin’ hard so far and a bunch of them just REAL GR8 for tha streetz; street shit to tha fullest!!!
11. Travis Speaks From Jail
Who exactly iz Travis? >>> I guess that was a cool check in fa what it was; kinda short… Tha intro wit tha “this call may be recorded” sounded exactly like when my boy Yung Yola called me. I’m glad I got ta talk to my boy fa 20 minutes; fuck tha cost! My Rating: N/A
12. “Solve My Problem”
What could this sound like? I don’t know if tha 2nd ½ of this mixtape can compete wit tha 1st ½… >>> Actually, it sounds like a good start to tha 2nd ½! At least this ain’t depressin’ or nothin’! Tha beat has those cool sound effects in tha beginning and throughout tha beat. Pretty good 1st verse and you switched up your style throughout tha middle of tha 1st verse. And then, you switched it back ta normal and you switched it to tha Jamaican style throughout tha hook and made it sound catchy! You gave a shout out ta “Guss” in tha 2nd verse so I assume he produced this joint! DEFINITELY watz good and I’m glad someone holdin’ you down!! Good shit throughout tha 2nd verse and I DEFINITELY like tha “ragin’ fire” in tha hook; real good shit!! It sounds like we got a lotta people locked up in tha 3rd verse; hope they get out, ya dig! I didn’t expect tha verse ta cut out at tha end… My Rating: 4.2
13. “Grown Man Music”
I’m not a fan of these kinda titles… >>> Tha beat ain’t that bad at least for a start. Tha lyrics sound pretty good and catchy for a start. “Swallowin’ your painkillaz” ta stay neutral; nice line, Gates! Pretty good 1st verse on this shit right here. What’s up wit tha hook? There was no transition at all (in either tha beat or your voice) so I had no clue when it was comin’ up… Despite dat, tha hook was just okay. Tha 2nd verse still has catchy lyrics. Between everything you spit, tha rating at least made a 4.0 luckily; thumbs up to tha gr8 rhymes! My Rating: 4.0
14. “Dangerous”
I reviewed a mixtape recently (DJ 5150’s NO To The BR (Louisiana Bound)) and this song was on it. This was tha Auto-Tuned Gates song. To add: There’s a 1st verse in this one (unlike when I reviewed it, it started wit a fade-in intro to tha hook). Tha 1st verse was good fa what it was though. And to continue: What’s up wit this? Not only iz it disappointin’ ta have weird singin’ Auto-Tune vocals but somethin’ wit your “boxers” in tha beginning? What’s up wit tha weirdness? Okay, that was just tha hook so I can handle it especially since it was catchy! Sounds like a VERY long 2nd verse; at least it was REAL GOOD… Betta yet, it’s still goin’; does it end, lol? I like your “niggaz send me letters, can’t fa’get ta mail ‘em back” line ‘cause I feel like it’s an advantage when I writin’ people in jail. Pretty good song here and I feel 4.0+ ‘cause of tha catchiness! <- Also to add: My current rating went up 1/5 of a point due to more catchiness on a 2nd listen!! My Current Rating: 4.3
15. “69” Feat. Malachi
I know Malachi usually makes tha songs below 4.0 rating fa me when I hear ‘em ‘cause they’re not that excitin’ fa me. Since tha previous 12 songs were 4.0 or higher, this BETTA be!! Tha title iz familiar but I don’t think I heard it! Keep this shit goin’!! >>> Heard tha beginning and because of how horrible it sounded, I recognized that I knew it. I said this at first when I reviewed it back on Big Jay’s Pyrex Radio Vol. 6 cursed CD: HORRIBLE START!! Didn’t Malachi say in tha Nu$$ie death news that he’s a rapper? It sounds like he’s havin’ sex. Even worse: A Guss beat soundin’ like this. Too poppy fa me so I don’t give a shit what’s bein’ said in tha song. What’s next? A freestyle ova Britney Spears’s “Womanizer”!? LOL @ tha “spit all ova your clit…” [don’t know how to spell tha full word] What’s wit tha farting and shit? Although a GREAT 2nd verse, this ain’t Gates, Guss and a Baton Rouge styled song!!!!! <- To add: Originally was a 2.3 rating from me but like tha last song, I’ll increase it 1/5; why not. My Current Rating: 2.5
16. “Take A Ride” Feat. Malachi
Make dat two songs in a row! I don’t even have ta update my review from 2008 so here ya go: Not feelin’ tha T-Pain “Buy U A Drank” snappin’ beat in tha beginning. Not really into tha hook either. Kevin, you better boost tha rating somehow!! I hear you on tha 1st verse… Okay, good 1st verse. Beginning of tha 2nd verse sounds good so far; it was better than tha 1st one. Up, only 2 verses… For those that’ll like this song: it sounds like a Summer song ‘cause of tha vibe in tha beat. <- To add: Not tha worst song and DEFINITELY not tied wit tha last song! And for tha 3rd time in a row, I’ll increase my current rating by 1/5 again! Either way, this slow song wasn’t called for on this mixtape also; let it stay on tha All Or Nuthin’ CD! I may not skip this or tha previous song if they came up on shuffle on my iPod though so there’s at least a lil’ bit of luv from me. My Current Rating: 2.7
17. Kevin Speaks From Jail 2
Only 10 seconds this time; give ‘em da bidness!! >>> You may be “enjoyin’ your vacation.” However, time ta call out your manager: Thumbs DOWN fa him not sendin’ me your jail address back on August 4. I even texted him about it June 15 and on August 4, he said, “No need ta give you an address; he gettin’ out soon.” What kinda bullshit was dat?!? You AIN’T outta jail!! Wait ‘til I get it from someone soon!! You KNOW I’ll look forward ta you writin’ me and all dat!! My Rating: N/A
18. “Make ‘Em Believe”
Well tha surprise of a 5* rated CD already ended wit “69” so now, let’s see how I feel about dis song… >>> Finally back ta betta sounds!! Sounds like a familiar song wit a familiar flow on tha hook… Tha hook was catchy and tha song sounds like it’ll be a hit or somethin’! Tha 1st verse sounds like you got this shit on lock, my boy! LOL @ tha “HELLO, WORLD!!!” part!! Nice job on tha 1st verse and now, we got tha 2nd verse here… Still spittin’ this hood shit right here! You GOTTA “believe” in Gates here ‘cause you tha truth when it comes ta this shit!! My Rating: 4.1
19. “Put Dat Ass On Me”
A gr8 title here!! Hope you can make da best outta it and its 178 seconds!! >>> Thought tha beat intro was gonna be slow and depressin’ or somethin’ but it’s pretty upbeat fa you. It sounds like you deliverin’ REAL catchy shit here!! LOL @ tha word “twat;” I use tha word “cunt” but only ta call out assholes! Sounds like you gettin’ ready ta have some consistent sex here wit tha 1st verse and tha way it sounds! Nice job deliverin’ some sex-type lyrics for tha ladies! Tha hook sounded cool; it was pretty simple: “Just put dat ass on me,” lol. Tha 2nd verse iz here and already we got nakedness revealed in tha female thanx to your “conversation!” Nice job wit tha 2nd verse and a 3rd verse fit here! Tha 3rd verse iz a mix of you and your drugged “sippin’ syrup” wit more sexual lyrics ta fit its theme; good shit! My Rating: 4.0
20. “Don’t Need Niggas” Feat. Easy
This looks like tha kinda title dat describes how people take advantage of people; I wanna hear it!!! >>> Pretty good beat for tha theme here. Tha 1st verse sounds like you got a WHOLE lotta emotion here!! Yea, I was right wit tha song here as you said, “Why can’t you just be yourself?” Nice quote ta fit this song and nice job wit your verse! Back to back, Easy’s verse iz here and it sounds pretty good. He sounds pretty good and almost reminds me of tha white rapper Rackley outta BR wit his flow. Pretty good collaboration as he contributed some good shit wit you. I hear tha hook now and I like your whole “gut feelin’” deal; I like dat! Tha 3rd verse iz from you and it sounds like you’re tryna surpass tha stress you deal wit. Glad you got tha words tha express your shit!! My Rating: 4.0
21. “Outro”
It’s 1:57 long so will it be anotha freestyle of yours? Or will it be my guess: DJ Chill speakin’? Let’s see… >>> Tha beat iz a lil’ dark but a lil’ slow… Oh wait, it’s also you rappin’ right afta DJ Chill speakin’. I was right wit both guesses, lol! However, when I said, “freestyle of yours,” I was thinkin’ it wasn’t gonna have a beat. You sound good on this shit and DEFINITELY keepin’ tha hood nice and warm fa this Winter wit all your GR8-ASS street music!!! LOL @ tha “New York City/suckin’ New York titties” line; ROFL!!! REAL shit right chea!!! DEFINITELY a nice job freestylin’ here wit a pretty good beat!! My Rating: 4.4
Overall: I’m surprised “I’m A Grinder” didn’t get featured on this mixtape, ESPECIALLY since a music video was just released! Anyway, this mixtape DEFINITELY had it goin’ on!!! I can even deal wit #15 & #16 bein’ on here ‘cause of how GR8 tha mixtape was itself!!! And thanx ta #15 & #16, you made some history tonight: This iz tha 1st CD I eva reviewed wit different rating scores (e.g., 1.0’s, 2.0’s, 3.0’s, 4.0’s) consistin’ of NO 3.0 scores!!! That’s wild!!! Damn near every review I do has a 3.-somethin’ at all times, lol! I guess feel proud of dat, Gates, ESPECIALLY since you had 16/18 4.0+ ratings!!! Keep doin’ ya thang and I HOPE someone gives me dat jail address soon so I can show you this review!!
