Review #1,989: Drummer Boy Records Presents "Mixed Emotions"

Reviewed on 6.05.2021 (Review #1,989)

Keepin’ these reviewz goin’ with this next one: Drummer Boy Records Presents Mixed Emotions, released in 2003 on Drummer Boy Records! I was presented this release as a 2000 release but after later listenin’ to it, I found out it was an ’03 one. Start Tyme: 7:36 PM | End Tyme: 7:59 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Drummer Boy “Intro”
>>> “2003”? Am I in tha wrong year, right now? *Checks Google…* I see “2000”, just like I thought; weird that—ahh, tha “2003” part, again! Maybe, it iz? I just gon review it now, since it’s in tha 2000 part of my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon. Oh boy, there’s some rappin’ a lil’ after tha 1:00 mark; good rappin’ on this sad-soundin’ beat. My Rating: 3.5

02. D.B.G.s “Mixed Emotions”
>>> Beat’s kinda dry, here; nothin’ special about it… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds okay; damn, 5:43 on tha length? Shid, this shit’s gonna drag…! I’ont thank I gon be that interested in hearin’ that much of this, since it sounds too blah… My Rating: 2.6

03. Mr. Freeze & K. Bound “Brain Freeze”
>>> Sappy beat start, here; am I listenin’ to rap or R&B? That hook just seems like it’s singin’ just buried in a tomb or somethin’; yuck… Hearin’ tha rappin’ & it’s aight; I just think this iz too dry, with nothin’ poppin’… My Rating: 2.9

04. Mr. Freeze “Do What U Like”
>>> Seems okay; beat a lil’ upbeat but really plain, with not many sounds to make it stand out… Hearin’ tha hook & it sounds simple; can’t say much after what I just said… As far as tha rappin’, it’s decent; can’t jump fa joy, tho. My Rating: 3.2

05. Pita-Man, Shaggy Jones & K. Bound “Slow Down”
>>> A lil’ more effort in tha production, this tyme; hearin’ tha rappin’ & it’s str8… Hearin’ tha hook & it’s aight; just anotha jam ta get you through this review… My Rating: 3.3

06. K. Bound “Sittin’ On Top”
>>> Tha hook aight; when I hear singin’, I think I gon be swarmed with dry, R&B shit, tho… Hearin’ tha rappin’ & it ain’t bad; I still can’t really feel-feel it, tho… My Rating: 2.8

07. Drummer Boy “Session 1”
>>> That piano & organ’s “din-din-din-ne-nin-ne-nin-ne-nin” shit reminds me of some throwback shit I can’t think of…; sounds catchy but this more like an interlude. My Rating: N/A

08. J. Rilla & Shaggy Jones “Colonel General Solja”
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ track fa tha streetz, based off tha hook & this vibe. Tha beat’s a lil’ dry but let’s see how tha rappin’ goes… Hearin’ what y’all got & it str8; tha rest iz okay but blends right in, leavin’ nothin’ to stand out. My Rating: 3.1

09. Bino, Shaggy Jones & Big Drum “Neva Thought”
>>> Sounds so sappy with this hook; beat’s not really poppin’ & seems quiet. Hearin’ tha rappin’ & it sounds boring; not really gonna sit here… My Rating: 2.2

½tyme: This iz a boring review & release, so far; only a 3.0 for tha average rating, currently! Too many boring-soundin’ beats & tha flows don’t really stand out.

10. K. Bound & J. Rilla “We Comin’”
>>> Sounds like an okay hook; can’t say much… Not much goin’ on with tha beat, here…; hearin’ tha rappin’ & it’s aight. Like, 4:00, tho? Doesn’t keep my interest up fa ½ that tyme! My Rating: 2.7

11. Drummer Boy “Session 2”
>>> Random chatter… My Rating: N/A

12. Pita-Man, K. Bound & Bino “Gimme Mine”
>>> Sounds like a more-lively beat ta kick thangz off, this tyme… Hearin’ tha hook & it sounds more-lively, as well; props fa finally realizin’, 12/19th through tha way! Tha rhymes on this one aight; I feel ‘em a lil’ more than tha tracks on here, at least. My Rating: 3.6

13. J. Rilla “Git In Wher U Fit In”
>>> A “6th Ward” representation, here; sounds like a lil’ catchy flow with tha hook, here! Beat’s kinda quiet & a lil’ boring but it makes this J. Rilla dude rap pretty decent/good, here… My Rating: 3.7

14. Pita-Man “Holla My Name”
>>> Sounds like a laidback, dry-soundin’ beat ta relax on a hot sunset… Hearin’ tha rappin’ & it’s aight; again, nothin’ too great about this one. My Rating: 3.0

15. Bino & J. Nevelle “Livin’ In The Ghetto”
>>> Slower beat & more on tha sad tip; weird that tha singer on tha hook wants to rap on tha 2nd verse! A lil’ too slow for any type of catch fa me…! My Rating: 2.3

16. Pita-Man & Malissa “Don’t Worry”
>>> This just like tha song I just listened to, only tha gender of tha singin’ on tha hook changed & they didn’t try ta rap… My Rating: 1.9

17. K. Bound & Malissa “Me To You”
>>> More boring vibes; just like tha song I just-just listened to! My Rating: 1.2

18. Shaggy Jones, Lil’ & Big Drum “Bang Out”
>>> How in tha hell did we go from such slow, boring jamz to some gangsta shit like dis? Props fa tha better effort & extra-added energy in tha hook! Tha rhymes are str8, as well; props fa tha effort, once again. My Rating: 3.7

19. Drummer Boy “Outro”
>>> Again with tha “2003”? I guess I’ll just re-label this shit as an ’03 release & just get tha review over with now? Anyway, slow beat ta have tha outro, here; just an outro, basically. My Rating: N/A

Overall: Unfortunately, this release didn’t go over well with me; way too boring with too many slow & plain vibes.
