Reviewed on 6.07.2021 (Review #1,995)

Reviewz, reviewz, reviewz! Up next, my 1,995th review, eva: Shreveport’s Hogg & Priest 5004, released in 2000 on Playa Made Records, 5004 Music & Tomi Gran Records, entirely produced by Tommy Granville, Jr.! Start Tyme: 5:30 PM | End Tyme: 6:39 PM

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

Link To Release: N/A

01. Intro-Space Invasion
>>> Pretty eerie with tha “space” SFX; Shreveport, as eerie as eva! My Rating: N/A

02. “Where I’m From”
>>> Sounds like one of those awesome, throwback-soundin’ anthems about representin’ “where [you] from”; gotta luv it! Damn @ tha 1st verse, tho, who some wanna “retire by 30”; I finna be 33 in two weeks & shit finna be on-n-poppin’ in a huge way fa me!! My value continues to glow!! With this continuin’ on, this shit’s real dope, between tha both of y’all! “Sleep all day, work all night,” huh, as far as avoidin’ tha “9 – 5?” Sounds awesome! I remember havin’ my favorite job as a Billing Associate like dat… Tha rest of this was continuously on tha consistent level; props fa keepin’ dat rotatin’ catchiness alive! My Rating: 4.4

03. “What It Iz?”
>>> Sounds like anotha catchy hook, beat & track, here; awesome thinkin’ with tha catchiness fa tha 2-000! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds nice ta hear some future-platnium-type of lyrics, definin’ tha upcomin’ status/success! Keepin’ this thang goin’ with tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ good fa that mission-fa-success-type of rhymes; good shit…! Likin’ how tha outro dedicates this shit ta tha “gars” in tha air—“bridge,” I should say…! Tha hook plays right after, as it’s always awesome to be in tha haze!! My Rating: 4.3

04. “Playa-Made”
>>> Sounds like a cool lil’ slower beat & good vibe fa tha hoodz of Shreveport, on tha hook; nice…! Hearin’ tha 1st verse from tha Hogg & “’76 was tha year […] 23rd was tha day, tha 12th of tha month…” was your born-day? Dope info; gotta dig it! Keepin’ this goin’ with tha actual hook & it’s awesome, with its deep voice; catchy shit fa tha demons in tha dark! Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ good with these rhymes; nice job… Tha rest of this shit nice fa tha Gz that represent life in tha ‘90s; catchy shit fa that perspective…! My Rating: 4.1

05. “Shrimp & Steak”
>>> Sounds like an okay track, between tha catchy hook, beat & what y’all bringin’ to tha beginning, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s soundin’ good with tha life of tha 2000 items (e.g., “VCR”); I remember tha N64 thing w/tha TV in tha car! Seems like this a really long track; I’ono if I wanna sit & wait till tha end… As far as tha rest of this, it’s only okay; just seems like 5:25’s quite tha length. My Rating: 3.3

06. “Cutter”
>>> That “Tha Cutter!” intro part makes me think this gon be on an even-more southern tip? Sounds like a funky lil’ singin’ part, in tha beginning/hook… Keepin’ this thang goin’ with y’all on tha 1st verse, here, comin’ through wit some aight lil’ adult-type activities; good shizzit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & this ain’t too bad with this laidback, southern voice; gotta hold it dahn! What happened after tha 2nd verse? Just a bunch of music playin’ fa 21 seconds; I’ono but random… Tha rest of this, with tha singin’ hook, just fills space, basically. My Rating: 3.6

07. “5004”
>>> Sounds like an okay, slower beat; tha 1st verse ain’t bad with this regular-paced flow & southern lifestyle… Diggin’ how tha hook sounds with a lil’ distortion with tha voices; keep bein’ 1,000’s of years ahead! Imagine this song all them years from now? June 7, 5004? Deep, lol! Anyway, hearin’ tha 2nd verse & this shit’s continuin’ ta be laidback & southern; I can dig it… Keepin’ this thang goin’ with tha 3rd verse & y’all comin’ through wit dat hood content, once again; props fa bein’ able ta survive tha Shreveport hood shit…! My Rating: 3.5

08. “Givin’ It”
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ jam—funky jam to ride to… Hearin’ how y’all comin’ through on tha 1st verse & it’s good; always stay focused! Hearin’ tha hook & it’s cool; gotta “keep [me] high!” Movin’ on with tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through with that southern lifestyle; gotta “fiya up dat green!” Keepin’ it goin’ with tha 3rd verse, here, just keepin’ bidness goin’ fa tha streetz; gotta dig it…! Consistent rhymes at their finest! Even mo shit with a 4th verse, here, preventin’ a “dog from” smellin’ you; deep…, lol! Also, that “$1,000 high”; interestin’…! My Rating: 3.7

½tyme: A decent/above-average release, here; I can feel y’all, for tha most part. Tha average rating for this release iz at a 3.8, currently; let’s continue…!

09. “P.O.L.O.”
>>> “Playas Only Live Once” on tha acronym, here; nice… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s soundin’ okay, with this laidback, slower flow; not bad… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & this flow’s so dry; southern, good, but dry? Naw, a lil’ too boring… My Rating: 2.8

10. “On The Run”
>>> Sounds like an okay 1st verse & beat fa tha south, here; let’s see if it grows on me… Hearin’ tha hook & it sounds interestin’, as y’all “On The Run” fa whateva tha next tunnel leads to; interestin’ & upbeat, here… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it sounds “dope” with tha “dope & fiends” survival, while tryna get thru with life; nice way ta put it… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse on this & it sounds good with tha street content; I’ll keep tha props up… My Rating: 3.8

11. “Slab Hurter”
>>> Catchy hook by hurtin’ this “slab”; definitely gotta do dat in tha whip! Nice & southern-styled beat, as well as how y’all come through wit tha southern-styled content, here! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & this sounds dope; I can picture I-10 bein’ visioned in this verse, ya dig me?! Keepin’ this shit goin’ with tha 2nd verse & it’s str8; damn, “I-20”? Double what I guessed but ironic that we both thought of interstates! Keepin’ this shit movin’ with tha 3rd verse & it’s soundin’ nice, asstastic & “Driptastic”, just like one of my new album cuts says! Feelin’ tha consistent rhymes & tha lifestyle like a “holiday”; that’s what da bidness iz! Tha rest of this shit with all tha “slab” shit’s nice, as well as tha beat ridin’ out; good one, y’all…! My Rating: 4.2

12. “Dirty”
>>> Sounds like a laidback beat & an okay 1st verse goin’ on, so far… Hearin’ tha hook & tha hook sounds okay with this chick singin’ this title part & rhymin’ it; catchy, to say tha least… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s a str8-soundin’ verse; gotta get “throwed” off dat “lean”! As this shit continues, here comes tha 3rd verse, soundin’ like an okay verse, as well… It’s not bad with tha laidbackness, tho it seems like it drags with its longer length… My Rating: 3.1

13. “Life In The Fast Lane”
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ hook & beat, even tho I “live in” my “slow lane” ta grow slower… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it str8; I get it! Y’all “in tha fast lane” with tha perspectives you’re spittin’; I get it! I’m just glad that I’m an ‘80s baby in my 30’s, now earnin’ tha value I deserve, real slowly but real surely…! Also, with this one, I’m keepin’ it movin’ with tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ okay; decent shit spit with this southern hospitality… My Rating: 3.9

14. “Game Spitting”
>>> Here we go with tha slow jamz, 5:07 on tha length…! *Sigh* What a long-ass intro; sappy & sad! I get it, let’s go! Ummm, after 1:52, here comes weird singin’ vocals, drowned in stupid a-tune fa tha 2000! Like, why’d you guys research stupid-ass a-tune in tha year 2000? Wish some1 like myself woulda caught this back then & been like, “Get that effect OUTTA here!!” Too bad I ain’t start reviewin’ till February 2006… After tha singin’, tha interlude dialogue continues… Oh boy, tha fuckin’ a-tune comes back! I have to count this as an actual track, due to tha singin’…! My Rating: 1.0

15. “The Industry”
>>> Sounds like a plain-soundin’ beat for tha streetz, here; it’s aight & tha 1st verse ain’t bad, here… Hearin’ tha hook & it’s soundin’ nice fa what’s what in “The Industry”, as far as tha 2000 streetz go; good detailin’. Also, a nice lil’ skit-like interlude b4 tha 2nd verse came in… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ nice wit how y’all continuin’, here… Tha 2nd part of tha 2nd verse with tha member-switchin’ sounds a lil’ more dry on tha flow; ehh, I guess it’s str8. Tha rest of this shit kinda dry, as it continues; turned out more plain, in tha end… My Rating: 2.9

16. “Hustle 4 What”
>>> Sounds like a lil’ bit of depression in tha content, here. It’s like tha title/hook makes you have to “do hard tymes”; fuck tha “have”, even tho I had, sadly… Hearin’ tha 1st verse on this shit & it sounds okay; not sure if I can last tha remaining 3:30… Keepin’ it goin’ with tha 2nd verse & these lyrics are pretty deep, just like a “knife”; oww! I’m sayin’ that in a powerful way; it’s 50% for me, 50% not really up my alley. Either way, definitely a nice contribution; props fa lettin’ it be known! Keepin’ it movin’ with a 3rd verse, here, comin’ through with a flow for tha streetz; props on tha street content, too… As y’all switch members on tha 3rd verse, tha 2nd part of tha 3rd verse’s str8; just more rappin’, basically. My Rating: 3.4

17. “‘Til Death Do Us Part”
>>> Sounds like a dope, eerie beat start, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds nice & grimy, like it came from tha hood’s roots; gotta feel it…! Hearin’ tha hook & it’s pretty simple, dark & deep; feelin’ how y’all put tha title part out there…! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & tha dark vibes continue…; props on y’all effort…!  Keepin’ it movin’ wit y’all 3rd verse, here & it’s cool with how y’all stay on track wit dis one; good shit… My Rating: 4.0

Overall: This release had its ups & downs; not too much excitement, except tha very beginning; there were a few jointz that were nice ta hear. Also, a bunch of decent & below-average tracks that were in tha way, as well.
